MXG Laser Engraving System
Questions & Answers
W50S6V25Q0011
1. Can you provide any more information in regard to the data that you would like to engrave? Is it human readable or barcode? Does it need serialization. Is it completely entered by an operator?
A: We are looking to engrave basic human readable information that will be entered by the operator. Numbers, letters, symbols, and images. Other features such as being able to do barcodes or being able to cut into foam or other soft material would be nice but not required. I am not sure what serialization means?
2. Section 889 of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) (2019) prohibits federal agencies and contractors from using or procuring certain telecommunications equipment and services from specific Chinese companies. We consider fiber laser sources and certain data communication boards, used in the manufacturing of laser systems, telecommunications equipment. Will you be requiring that the vendor provide documentation on what laser sources and communication devices they are using to meet this requirement? In the past we have seen several companies selling lower cost Chinese Fiber sources and data communication boards to keep their costs down.
A: We require vendors to be 889 compliant, IAW with clause 52.204-24. We do not need documentation on laser sources and devices to be provided to prove they meet the requirement however in accordance with the combo document you must submit documentation to be able to allow for us to determine technical acceptance.
3. We have some confusion in regards to the enclosure dimensions. Attachment 1 states the following: Approximate enclosure dimensions: 30” to 48” in Length, 30” to 36” in Depth, 5” to 13” in Height. Attachment 2 states: Approximate enclosure dimensions: Minimum height 914mm, minimum width 762mm. and minimum depth 762mm. Are these dimensions the internal working area (not marking area which is minimum 100mm x 100mm) or are they the external dimensions of the workstation?
Secondly, Attachment A has the height at 5” to 13” while Attachment 2 has the height at 914mm, which is approximately 36".
A: The dimensions were truly hard to quantify since there are many different sizes and shapes of engravers. Since we are limited to a class 4 laser we are looking for an extra-large enclosure.
Most of our tools are small, but occasionally we have a long prybar, wrench, or other types of tools/equipment that need a lot of space. We are asking for an engraver with an enclosure that is at least 30 inches long and 30 inches deep. Yet, having a larger enclosure then that will allow us greater flexibility. We would like the working area to be greater than 8” x 8”. As well as being able to engrave items that are at least 5” tall. Naturally, the larger the working area, the better.
Additionally, we have amended the solicitation and updated attachment 2, the salient characteristics under attachment 1 had the correct dimensions. Thank you for bringing this to our attention and apologies for any confusion this may have caused.
