About this file

This document details the technical characteristics and requirements for a Laser Marker System for the Air National Guard's AMXS & MXS units. The specification calls for an RMI UF-20 Fiber Laser Marking System or equivalent, with specific technical requirements including a 1064 nm wavelength fiber laser with minimum 20-watt output, 163mm F-Theta focusing lens, 100mm x 100mm marking area, and capability to engrave metals and plastics. Critical requirements include Class I laser configuration, Bioenvironmental Engineering approval, compliance with AFI 48-139 and ANSI Z136 standards, and a minimum 2-year warranty. The system must include a laptop for off-network operation, on-site software training, and technical support, with an enclosure sized between 30-48" in length, 30-36" in depth, and 5-13" in height, capable of marking curved surfaces using a rotary chuck adapter.

AMXS & MXS Laser Marker System Characteristics

Requirements are specifically driven from AFI 21-101_ANG SUP Paragraph 8.6. All units must permanently mark their tools and equipment with the standard EID.

Laser Marker must be approved by Bioenvironmental Engineering prior to use. Laser Marker must meet AFI 48-139 as well as ANSI Z136 standards.

RMI UF-20 Fiber Laser Marking System or equivalent. To be considered equal, the proposed Fiber Laser Marker must meet the following characteristics:

Laser Marker Features:

o Fiber Laser with 1064 nm Wavelength o Minimum of 20-Watt laser output.

o Minimum of 163mm F-Theta Focusing Lens o Minimum of 100 mm x 100 mm marking area.

o Class IV laser capable of Class I configuration.

o Marker must meet ANSI Z136 standards.

o Marker must be able to engrave metals and plastics.

Software:

o Laptop Computer must be provided for off Air Force Network operation.

o On-site training of software.

o Technical Support.

Safety:

o Must be able to operate in a Class I Laser Configuration.

o Must be approved by 140th Bio-environmental.

o Meet AFI 48-139 as well as ANSI Z136 standards.

Enclosure:

o Must be capable of Class I operation.

o Must contain safety features to prevent operation when the door is open.

o Must be large enough to engrave current and future tools and equipment.

Approximate enclosure dimensions:

30” to 48” in Length 30” to 36” in Depth 5” to 13” in Height o Must be able to be stored on a table or workbench, or be free standing with no other exterior storage requirements

Warranty minimum of 2-Years.

o Repairs provided on site or provide shipping method.

Must be capable of marking on curved surfaces.

o Rotary Chuck adapter or equivalent.

The laser marker that will be replaced is an older model of the proposed RMI Laser Marker. That laser marker meets all the characteristics above and has been approved through Bioenvironmental Engineering. Going with RMI would not require extra steps that could potentially not be approved.
