About this file

This document contains responses to a request for information (RFI) regarding solicitation number W50S6N-23-B-0004 for a weapons load crew training facility. The RFI responses clarify specifications for ductwork insulation, confirm that geothermal piping does not require insulation, provide original construction drawings for an existing building showing an oil interceptor and 280 gallon storage tank that will be removed, and note that soil testing if required will be conducted by the government. An excerpt from an asbestos survey indicates that two areas in the existing building tested negative for asbestos.

Subject: RESPONSES TO RFI #002

Project: F-35: WEAPONS LOAD CREW TRAINING FACILITY

Job #: ANG# FAKZ039172 / SSL# 18138

From: David Donovan

1) Question: We do not see anything related to insulation of the plumbing piping in

Spec 220000 Plumbing or in spec 230719 Mechanical Piping Insulation; however, we assume that it needs to be insulated. Please advise.

Response: Refer to Addendum No. 2.

2) Question: The drawings say the ductwork exposed in the space is double wall spiral and painted. The specs call for exposed ductwork to be insulated with rigid fiberglass board insulation. Please clarify.

Response: Refer to Addendum No. 2 which revises specific note 15 on M0.1 to be specific to AHU-1. Note indicates Supply Air Ductwork “in the hanger” to be double wall type. Where not in the hanger, section 230713 rigid exterior fiberglass insulation is specified for exposed ductwork, although double wall for all of AHU-1 supply will be acceptable.

3) Question: The drawings say to wrap the supply ductwork on the mezzanine with fiberglass duct wrap. The specs call for ductwork exposed in the mezzanine to be insulated with rigid fiberglass board insulation. Please clarify.

Response: The duct insulation statement reference applies only to Note 15 regarding AHU-1 supply air duct, see response to question 2.

4) Question: If the drawings are correct then the only ductwork requiring insulation would be the supply duct that is not double wall. If the specs are correct then all supply and return air ductwork would be insulated with rigid fiberglass board insulation. Please clarify.

Response: Refer to Addendum No. 2. Specifications have been revised to allow duct wrap where ductwork is concealed.

5) Question: Does the condensate supply and return piping require insulation?

Response: Geothermal piping does not require insulation.

6) Question: Are there any details on the type, size, or depth of the underground tank that is being removed at bldg. 1403?

Response: Refer to Addendum No. 2. Original construction drawings for Building 1403 are included within the addendum. The original construction drawings indicate the presence of an oil interceptor and a 280 gallon oil storage tank.

7) Question: Is there any sludge or substance inside the tank? If so, what is the estimated number of gallons?

Response: The facility has not been in use for some time. The Government intends to pump the tank prior to beginning demolition. So, bidders can assume the tank will be empty at the time it is removed.

8) Question: Has the substance inside the tank been tested? If so, is there an environmental report?

Response: No. Refer to response to question 7 above.

9) Question: Will environmental soil testing be required once the tank is removed?

Response: No. Soil testing, if required, will be provided by the Government.

10) Question: Is there an environmental survey or asbestos report available on bldg.

1403? If not, will this be required prior to the demolition of the building?

Response: See below for an excerpt from the basewide asbestos survey that documents presence of two homogeneous areas that were sampled and tested negative for asbestos.
