About this file
This document is a specification sheet for a 4x2 refrigerated van under GSA Schedule 581, intended for last-mile delivery of temperature-sensitive cargo. The vehicle is specified as a 12-24 foot refrigerated box truck with a 25,000-26,000 lbs Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) and is designed for ambient temperatures below 100 degrees Fahrenheit, with optional enhanced insulation available for higher temperature environments. Standard equipment includes a conventional cab, tinted glass, hand throttle control, electric power point, dual cab entry assist handles, and automatic engine shutdown features. The vehicle shall comply with applicable federal vehicle standards and will be delivered via wheels-on-ground drive-away or piggyback tow, with the receiving official responsible for pre-service tasks including fluid verification, lug nut torqueing, tire pressure adjustment, system inspection, and warranty registration.
The specification details multiple optional configurations available to customers, including backup sensor systems with obstacle detection (BUOD), forward warning systems for obstacle detection (FWOD), double rear doors for refrigerated vans (BDDR), enhanced refrigerated body insulation for temperatures exceeding 120 degrees Fahrenheit (VBR5), brake dust shields and backing plates (BDST), tire pressure monitoring systems (TPMS), 3,000 lbs cantilever lift aluminum platforms (CL64), and alternative van body lengths such as 14-foot options (VB14). Each option includes detailed technical specifications regarding sensor placement, insulation thickness, door construction, platform capacity, and control mechanisms. The payload capacity is reduced based on selected optional equipment such as liftgates and increased body sizes. This specification supports GSA Solicitation 47QMCA27Q0002 for the purchase of two refrigerated box trucks.

USDA Express Desk based on SIN 581 4X2 REFRIGERATED VAN, 12-24 FT, 25,000-26,000 LBS GVWR
4x2 Refrigerated Van, 12-24 feet, 25,000-26,000 LBS Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. This vehicle is intended for Last Mile Delivery and should not be used for long term storage of temperature sensitive cargo. The standard configuration is intended for ambient temperatures less than 100 degrees F. Options VBR4 or VBR5 should be considered for areas with higher temperatures or extreme humidity and sun load. This vehicle shall comply with paragraphs 1 through 7 of Federal vehicle standard. Standard equipment includes but not limited to: Conventional Cab, Tinted glass, Hand throttle control, Electric power point, Dual cab entry assist handles, Automatic engine shutdown for low oil pressure, High coolant temp and low coolant level. Payload is reduced by the weight of options specified such as lift gate, increased body size, and other equipment not included in the base Standard Item. The values shown for the minimum requirements may change when optional equipment is added to the standard vehicle. The standard method of delivery is wheels on ground drive-away or piggyback tow. The standard delivery type is consignee. This requires the receiving official to perform the tasks normally completed by a dealer prior to the vehicle being placed in service. These tasks include but are not limited to verifying all fluid levels, re-torque lug nuts, adjusting tire pressures, inspecting all vehicle systems for proper function, registration of all subcomponents for warranty start date and mileage, and notifying the manufacture of in service date and mileage accrued during delivery.
Options as selected by customer -
Option definitions (vendors may not be able to meet some or all of the content)
BUOD = BACKUP SENSOR SYSTEM-OBSTACLE DETECTION – requires a warning system which provides an audible warning when the vehicle is within 8-ft of an obstacle.
1. The system shall warn the driver that an object is in close proximity to an object in the rear when the transmission is in a reverse gear.
2. A digital display will provide visual and audible warning and provide the distance measure to an obstacle with a continuous readout.
3. Four sensors shall be located with two on the extreme right and left corners and two additional sensors shall be evenly spaced to provide complete coverage.
4. Sensors shall be located at a height of not less than 12-in from the ground and not higher than 48-in to provide proper detection ranges.
5. The sensors shall be flush mounted in the body, bumper, or lift threshold to be protected from damage.
FWOD = FRONT WARNING SYSTEM- OBSTACLE DETECTION – requires a forward sensing sonar system which provides an audible and visual warning when an object is within 3-ft of the front bumper.
1. A digital display will provide visual and audible warning and provide the distance measure to an obstacle with a continuous readout.
2. Four sensors shall be located with two on the extreme right and left corners of the bumper facing diagonally approximately 45 degrees to the vehicle centerline, and two additional forward-facing sensors shall be evenly spaced to provide complete coverage.
3. Sensors shall be located at a height of not less than 12-in from the ground and not higher than 48-in to provide proper detection ranges.
4. The sensors shall be flush mounted in the bumper to be protected from damage.
5. This option excludes options ATR, LTD, and ATR2 when the front bumper is replaced by a version that is used to tie the truck down and cannot be drilled to have the sensors installed as specified.
BDDR = DOUBLE REAR DOORS - REEFER - When code BDDR is specified, double rear doors shall be provided for a refrigerated van body, with an opening within 4-in of the full width and the full height of the body interior.
1. The doors shall be braced to prevent sagging, and equipped with three cast steel, or equal, hinges per door.
2. Doors shall be insulated so that body-insulating efficiency will not be reduced.
3. A door gasket shall be installed to insure a seal.
4. The door locking devices shall include not less than three bolts or latches, located at top, bottom and center of the door.
5. Cam type locking devices may be furnished at the top and bottom of the door.
6. The center locking device shall be provided with an operating handle and shall be installed to ensure positive closing under all operating conditions.
7. The door shall be capable of being opened from inside when locked.
8. Provisions for the use of a padlock shall be furnished.
9. The van body shall be equipped at the sides with catches for holding the doors in the fully open position.
10. Hardware shall be the manufacturer’s standard.
11. Option BDDR cannot be selected with liftgate options.
VBR5 = REFRIGERATED BODY INSULATION FOR TEMPS OVER 120 DEGREES F – this option requires thicker insulation throughout the body to improve on the cooling thermal efficiency of the body where intense sun load and/or elevated temperatures above 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
1. Insulation shall be of the foam-in-place type minimum 5-inch thickness for all walls, ceiling, and floor.
2. The insulation shall be of cellular structure with closed cells.
3. Insulation shall be non-hygroscopic, resistant to fungus growth and vermin retention, and shall be resistant to the passage of air and absorption of water.
