About this file
This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for replacing Emergency Diesel Generator No. One on the USS Blue Ridge (LCC-19), part of an Extended Service Life Program Ship Service/Emergency Diesel Generator Genset Upgrade. The project involves removing the existing Caterpillar 3508B diesel generator (750KW, 450VAC) and installing a new Caterpillar 3516E diesel generator (2000KW, 450VAC) with a more powerful 16-cylinder configuration.
Key project details include a contractor work start date of 1/12/2026 and completion date of 8/5/2027. The work will occur in multiple ship locations including the Emergency Generator Room, storerooms, crew living spaces, and underwater hull areas. The project has potential asbestos and lead hazards and will be performed in Dry Dock No. 6. The Naval Surface Warfare Center Philadelphia Division (NSWCPD) will provide on-site technical support, and the Original Equipment Manufacturer (CAT Hawthorne) will assist with genset uncoupling, rigging, and installation procedures.
