About this file

This document is a Task Group Instruction (TGI) for cleaning, inspecting, repairing, and preserving a Waste Oil Tank (9-94-0-F) on the USS BLUE RIDGE (LCC-19). The specific work includes commercial blast cleaning of the tank, visual inspection for coating and structural integrity, repair of deteriorated welds and plates, and preservation of tank surfaces. The work is detailed and precise, requiring:

Key specifications include cleaning the 14,474-gallon waste oil tank to Level III standards, repairing up to one linear foot of deteriorated welds, base metal weld buildup of 60 square inches, replacement of 10 square feet of deteriorated plate, and installation of new manhole covers. The work is scheduled to begin on 1/12/2026 and complete by 5/15/2027, with the project taking place in the Engine Room. Special requirements include addressing a potential lead hazard and working around a fire zone boundary, with a non-flammable closure required for any access points created during the maintenance process.
