About this file

This document is a presentation on the Defense Language Proficiency Test 5 (DLPT5) developed by the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center (DLIFLC). The DLPT5 is a computer adaptive test that measures the reading and listening comprehension abilities of native English speakers who have learned a foreign language, as well as native speakers of other languages with strong English skills. The test uses multiple-choice and constructed-response formats across three proficiency ranges, based on the Interagency Language Roundtable (ILR) skill level descriptions. The presentation covers the test's purpose, design, delivery, content, passage selection, task types, and multiple-choice item development.

The related federal contract opportunity is for the creation of DLPT5 test items covering approximately 350 foreign languages and dialects across multiple ILR proficiency levels. DLIFLC anticipates an annual demand for 5,000 to 7,500 test items that conform to DLPT item development specifications. The contracting authority is the Department of the Army Materiel Command Mission and Installation Contracting Command at Fort Eustis.
