SECTION 01100 – SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 -
1.1 WORK COVERED BY CONTRACT DOCUMENTS
A. Facility Description:
1. Facility: The Pittsburgh ARSR facility is on a campus located in the town of Oakdale, Pa., Allegheny County. The facility consists of a 60 ‘x 60’ square (3600 SF footprint) concrete building that is approximately 86 ft high. Atop the roof is a 50’ high, spherical shaped fiberglass enclosure (Radome) that rests atop a 3’ high radome ring wall comprised of structural steel.
B. Project Description:
1. Perimeter Roof Guardrail Upgrade & Miscellaneous Items
a. Approximately 240 linear feet of perimeter roof guardrail will be removed and replaced with an OSHA compliant guardrail system to be anchored to the facade of the concrete structure. This work shall be coordinated with the temporary removal and reinstallation of guardrail grounding and lightning protection systems by FAA.
b. Provide dedicated post supports for mounting four existing BUEC antennas at an antenna base height of 44.5 inches above the roof. FAA will remove and remount the BUEC antennas and related cables in coordination with the guardrail replacement.
c. Replace two BUEC cable enclosures (splice boxes) with new stainless steel enclosures per drawings. Coordinate with FAA for removal and rerouting the BUEC cables through the new enclosures.
d. Remove abandoned and unused communication switches, receptacle, cables, J-boxes and conduits per the drawings. Two existing conduits penetrating the roof shall be cut and capped above the roof line.
e. Remove four abandoned tripod dish support stanchions as follows:
(1) Cut/grind all tripod legs just below the top of the existing pitch pockets; (2) Top off pitch pockets with new pitch; (3) Cap pitch pockets with material to match the existing roof membrane; (4) Paint potential trip hazards yellow.
f. All roof work will be performed during Radome shutdown. Provide a coordinated and detailed Phasing Plan and Schedule for all work per drawings and specifications.
2. Seal Building Envelope & Install Wall Exhaust Fans
a. Remove exterior louvers, vent hoods/canopies and anchors at existing unused exterior wall openings, and repair resulting concrete damage using approved methods. Related unused air handlers inside shall have their intake duct sections removed per drawings. Remaining ductwork shall be blanked off using sheet metal.
b. The existing unused ventilation openings of varying sizes (approx. 160 sq.ft) through the 10” exterior walls shall be infilled with CMU block mortared and secured to the existing steel channels that frame the openings using welded studs and interior/exterior finished to match their respective adjacent surfaces.
Summary of Work 01100 - 2
1) For openings in walls where interior GWB finish exists, infill will consist of 8” CMU covered with 2” rigid board (polyisocyanurate) insulation, furred, and then covered with GWB. Finishes shall match the adjacent walls.
Associated asbestos containing GWB joint compound will be removed per drawings.
2) For openings in walls where exposed CMU/concrete interior finish exists, infill shall consist of 10” CMU with the interior parged and finished to match the adjacent walls.
3) If a cable passes through the existing opening, it shall be routed through a 1” PVC conduit and sealed.
4) A stainless steel exterior drip edge shall be installed above the exterior of each sealed opening to protect the existing steel channel from corrosion.
The exterior of all infilled openings will be parged to match the color and texture of the adjacent concrete wall.
c. Existing exterior wall openings to be sealed were approximated as follows:
1) Southeast Elevation:
a) First Floor: 26”x26”, 40”x24” and 48”x24”
b) Second Floor: 24”x24” and 118”x 48”
