About this file
This is a staff parking policy document issued by a sheriff's department establishing regulations for parking of personal and departmental vehicles on department property. The policy, effective March 2016, governs parking at two primary locations: the House of Correction (HOC) and the Jail facility. At the HOC, authorized staff and department vehicles may park in designated lots (A, B, C, and D) with assigned and reserved spaces in Lots A and C, while Lots B and D operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Street parking is available on Bradston and Atkinson streets for designated employees displaying proper placards. At the Jail, parking is limited to the upper lot with assigned spaces for designated employees, and ramp parking is prohibited without specific superintendent authorization. The policy also permits limited temporary parking privileges in special circumstances as authorized by the Superintendent or designee.
Parking privileges are issued at the discretion of the Superintendent and may be revoked at any time. Employees authorized for permanent parking must register their vehicle information and display appropriate identification: burgundy stickers for Lots A and C, blue stickers for Lot B, and non-transferable placards for street parking. All stickers must be displayed in the lower left rear windshield, and placards must hang from the driver's side visor. Vehicles parked in violation of policy are subject to ticketing and/or towing at the owner's expense. Enforcement is conducted daily at the HOC by assigned uniformed staff monitoring parking lots and by City of Boston Parking Enforcement monitoring street parking. At the Jail, the back gate sally port officer or other assigned officers monitor compliance. All vehicles parked on department property must remain locked at all times, and vehicles entering the inner facility perimeter are subject to search for unauthorized occupants or contraband.
