About this file

This document is an Amendment (No. 04) to a Request for Proposal (RFP LBNF-368455-BF) for the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility/Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment Central Monorail Hoist Commissioning project. The amendment provides detailed responses to questions raised during a non-mandatory on-site visit and underground tour, addressing technical specifications and project requirements for hoist modification and installation in the North and South Caverns.

Key details include a proposal due date of August 8, 2025, with requirements for modifying and installing two 20-ton CMCO electric monorail hoist and trolley assemblies. The project involves working with existing central rails in underground caverns, with specific technical considerations such as beam straightness, collision avoidance systems, and load capacities. The hoists are currently warehoused in Rapid City, SD, and the first two hoists need to be operational by December 1, 2025. The project is being managed by Fermi Forward Discovery Group, LLC, and is associated with the Department of Energy Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory.

Central Monorail Hoist Commissioning and installation On Site Tour Question and Answers.

Question Answers

Can we provide a contact for Kiewit for equipment questions? They want to see if they can hire out disassembly and reassembly work. KAJV Contact is Josh Schurger at 619-520-4948.

Was the straightness tested? The concern is if there is a bow in the beam. This could exceed an adjustment and require a section to be replaced or straightened.

The straightness was determined from the surveys performed of the caverns. It is known that the beams do not meet the CMAA tolerances. North Cavern South Monorail Beam #13 (Splice #13) has a width deficiency of 5/16" on the top flange. (Repaired) North Cavern South Monorail Beam Splice #15 has a width deficiency of 5/16" on the top flange. (Repaired)

Recommending an engineering survey to determine if it is a beam issue, straightness issue, strength issue. They recommend starting with this prior to providing a bid on what needs to be done.

We have two surveys (one of the North Cavern and one of the South Cavern) that can be provided. The AVID 4 evaluation memo includes summary/detail on surveys and findings. The Subcontractor can perform their own survey post award.

Did we provide the survey? Can we provide the survey done? We have two surveys will be provided.

Two monorails on center beam, do these need anti-collision avoidance system? Or add additional bars to prevent collision.

Yes, a collision avoidance system should be included as an assumption with the proposal.

where can the hoist modification work be done?

The hoists that are located in Rapid City, SD warehouse should be sent to the Subcontractor for work to be performed.

What study needs to be done on the outside rails?

The same feasibility study on the outside rails should be performed.

Do we know what the lead times are looking at for parts and hoists?

The vendor provided new Hoist is 40 weeks, parts are 60 days on parts.

9 What is the power voltage? The Yale Hoists currently on hand are 460Volts.

What is the date that this is needed to be complete? For the first two hoists installed?

The need by date for completion of the first two hoist modification and installation was not included in the original RFP. We need the first two hoists operational by 12/1/25.

1 Liquidated damages?

Damages are covered in the General Terms and Conditions that were included with the RFP. If there are exceptions, they should be submitted along with the proposal for consideration.

2 Do they provide the Onseco No, FFDG provides the Onseco equipment.

3 who provides the water toilets etc.

Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) has a Bull gang that supplies toilets, water, disposal, trash etc. for the project.

4 What shift is recommended?

1st or 2nd shift is allowable but, TAP may be needed in advance.

5 Is there power in the area that needs the work?

Limited 110, 220, and 480. We would need to coordinate with KAJV based on the Subcontractor's need or request.

6 Where can they keep their tools?

The Subcontractor will be allowed to have a storage/box to store tools in the area during the project.

7 Can you jack off the walls? Yes 8 Slots? Yes 9 Stamped? Installer to determine 0 Capacity on outer rails? 10Ton

1 Capacity on rock bolts?

20' CT bolts are rated to 70 kips - 24" embed monorail anchor bolts are rated to 30 kips - all anchor points to be verified and load tested by contractor prior to lifting.

2 End mounting plate? Yes 3 As built? Yes Post Tour questions

There is a 125' manlift in the basin, can it be moved from one basin to the other?

The Manlift is KAJV's equipment. KAJV is our General Subcontractor, and they do not loan out equipment to other Subcontractors.

6 Can you use the walls as a base to jack from? Yes, to be treated as 5000 psi concrete.
