About this file

This document is Amendment 02 to Request for Proposal (RFP) LBNF-368455-BF for the Central Monorail Hoist Installation and Commissioning project at the Long-Baseline Neutrino Facility (LBNF)/Deep Underground Neutrino Experiment (DUNE). The amendment provides several key updates: additional drawings for crane monorail beams and underground structural chambers, an optional on-site visit and underground tour at the Sanford Underground Research Facility (SURF) on July 23, 2025, and extensions to the RFP questions deadline (now August 1, 2025) and proposal submission deadline (now August 8, 2025).

The amendment includes a comprehensive Q&A document addressing technical details such as hoist testing requirements (125% load testing), equipment availability, beam inspection criteria, and site-specific logistics. Safety requirements for the optional site visit include mandatory PPE (hard hat, steel-toe boots, safety glasses, reflective vest, long-sleeve shirts), on-site safety training, and Fermilab site access approval. Interested offerors must RSVP by July 9, 2025, with limited to two attendees per company due to underground cage restrictions. The project involves modifying and installing 20-ton electric monorail hoists and trolley assemblies in the North and South caverns to facilitate underground material movement.

Question Answer

Does FFDG understand the potential lead-time for new hoists? Yes

What percentage is required for load testing? 125%

Does both hoist need to be tested together? no

What equipment does FFDG have available to list the monorail hoists to their place at their 35 feet level onto the beams for installation?

FFDG has hooks place above the beam that can be used for lifting.

No equipment is provided by FFDG to lift the Hoists into position.

Will FFDG have equipment to move the Monorail Hoists to the cavern to be installed?

Yes, FFDG has a small forklift that can move the monorail hoist to the area for installation. Installation will be the Subcontractor responsibility. The monorail hoist can be moved to the ledge above near the elevator. The elevator can manage 13,500 Lbs. SURF will take the monorail hoist underground through the Ross shaft to the cavern where it is to be installed. FFDG will have 5000 LB forklifts available for use.

Is there Power on top to be able to use rigging equipment to move the Monorail Hoists into position?

Yes

What is the specific issue with the Beams? Is the fabrication of the Beam incorrect?

UG-FD-SS-802.pdf Crane Monorail Beam drawings, and UG-FD-SS- 801.pdf FSCF Excavation underground structural chambers 1-4 will be provided with the amendment to the Q&As. Note that the outer beams have the same profile.

8 Should both beams be inspected?

Yes. We may convert outside rails to monorail hoists but, this would be a new procurement and not part of this scope.

9 What is FFDG looking for in inspection criteria?

Inspection on the existing outer rails is required in the SOW to ensure that they can manage the hoist modifications.

Is there a JLG available to use from the Subcontractor on site?

No, the current general Subcontractor, KAJV is under a separate Subcontract for a different phase of this project, and does not allow use of their equipment outside of their Sub-Subcontractor agreements.

Is there a ledge on both ends?

Yes, however the Subcontractor will not be able to install from the other end. There is only minimal extension over the ledge (approx.

10'). It could be used to run a robotic tool to get specification only.

Will FFDG provide specifics on what needs to be changed on the wheels for the monorail hoists?

No, the Monorail Beam drawings and the FSCF Excavation drawings are provided with this amendment. The changes required will be the responsibility of the Subcontractor to determine. The hoist wheels are designed for the patented track and they do not meet the requirement for the completed rails.

Is there any costs to the Subcontractors from SURF to bring the Monorail Hoist onsite and transfer underground?

No.

Who is going to be the main general Subcontractor for the next phase? Would the Subcontractor be able to take the equipment apart for transport underground?

No. This will be the Subcontractors responsibility, and should be included in the assumptions.

Confirm ESH provided equipment The Onseco and cap lamps are the only ESH provided equipment per RFP.
