SECTION 08111
STANDARD STEEL DOORS AND FRAMES
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 SCOPE
A. This Section includes the following products manufactured in accordance with SDI
Recommended Standards:
1. Doors: Seamless, hollow or composite construction standard steel doors for interior and exterior locations.
2. Frames: Pressed steel frames for doors, transoms, sidelights, mullions, interior glazed panels, and other interior and exterior openings of following type:
a. Drywall Slip-On type.
3. Assemblies: Provide standard steel door and frame assemblies as required for the following:
a. Labeled and fire rated.
b. Thermal rated (insulated).
4. Provide factory primed doors and frames to be field painted.
B. Painting primed doors and frames is specified in Section 09900 "Painting."
C. Door hardware is specified in another Section 08710.
D. Glass and Glazing are specified in another Section 08800.
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. General: Submit the following in accordance with Conditions of Contract and Division 1
Specification Sections.
B. Product data for each type of door and frame specified, including details of construction, materials, dimensions, hardware preparation, core, label compliance, profiles, and finishes.
C. Shop drawings showing fabrication and installation of standard steel doors and frames.
Include details of each frame type, elevations of door design types, conditions at openings, details of construction, location and installation requirements of door and

frame hardware and reinforcements, and details of joints and connections. Show anchorage and accessory items.
1. Provide schedule of doors and frames using same reference numbers for details and openings as those on contract drawings.
2. Indicate coordinate of glazing frames and stops with glass and glazing requirements.
D. Label Construction Certification: For door assemblies required to be fire rated and exceeding limitations of labeled assemblies; submit manufacturer's certification that each door and frame assembly has been constructed to conform to design materials and construction equivalent to requirements for labeled construction.
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Provide doors and frames complying with Steel Door Institute "Recommended
Specifications Standard Steel Doors and Frames" ANSI/SDI-100 and as herein specified.
B. Fire-Rated Door Assemblies: Units that comply with NFPA 80, are identical to door and frame assemblies whose fire resistance characteristics have been determined per ASTM E 152 and which are labeled and listed by UL, Factory Mutual, Warnock Hersey, or other testing and inspecting organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.
1.04 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Deliver doors and frames cardboard-wrapped or crated to provide protection during transit and job storage. Provide additional protection to prevent damage to finish of factory-finished doors and frames.
B. Inspect doors and frames upon delivery for damage. Minor damages may be repaired provided refinished items are equal in all respects to new work and acceptable to Contracting Officer; otherwise, remove and replace damaged items as directed.
C. Store doors and frames at building site under cover. Place units on minimum 4-inches high wood blocking. Avoid use of non-vented plastic or canvas shelters which could create humidity chamber. If cardboard wrapper on door becomes wet, remove carton immediately. Provide 1/4-inches spaces between stacked doors to promote air circulation.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS
2.01 ACCEPTABLE MANUFACTURERS
A. Available Manufacturers: Subject to compliance with requirements, manufacturers offering standard steel doors and frames which may be incorporated in the work include;

but are not limited to, the following:
1. Standard Steel Doors and Frames:
a. Ceco Corp.
b. Fenestra Corp.
c. Steelcraft Manufacturing Co., or approved equal.
2.02 MATERIALS
A. Hot-Rolled Steel Sheets and Strip: Commercial quality carbon steel, pickled and oiled, complying with ASTM A 569 and ASTM A 568.
B. Cold-Rolled Steel Sheets: Commercial quality carbon steel, complying with ASTM A
366 and ASTM A 568.
C. Galvanized Steel Sheets: Zinc-coated carbon steel sheets of commercial quality, complying with ASTM A 526, or drawing quality, ASTM A 642, hot dipped galvanized in accordance with ASTM A 525, with A60 or G60 coating designation, mill phosphatized.
D. Supports and Anchors: Fabricate of not less than 18-gage sheet steel; galvanized where used with galvanized frames.
E. Inserts, Bolts, and Fasteners: Manufacturer's standard units. Where items are to be built into exterior walls, hot-dip galvanize in compliance with ASTM A 153, Class C or D as applicable.
F. Shop Applied Paint: Apply after fabrication.
1. Primer: Rust-inhibitive enamel or paint, either air-drying or baking, suitable as a base for specified finish paints complying with ANSI A224.1, "Test Procedure and Acceptance Criteria for Prime Painted Steel Surfaces for Steel Doors and Frames."
2.03 DOORS
A. Provide metal doors of SDI grades and models specified below or as indicated on drawings or schedules:
1. Interior Doors: ANSI/SDI-100, Grade II, heavy-duty, Model 2, minimum
18-gage cold-rolled sheet steel faces.
2. Exterior Doors: ANSI/SDI-100, Grade III, extra heavy-duty, Model 2 + 2A, minimum 16-gage galvanized steel faces.

B. Door Louvers: Provide sightproof stationary louvers for interior doors where indicated, constructed of inverted V-shaped or Y-shaped blades formed of 24-gage cold-rolled steel set into minimum 20-gage steel frame.
2.04 FRAMES
A. Provide metal frames for doors, transoms, sidelights, borrowed lights, and other openings, of types and styles as shown on drawings and schedules. Conceal fastenings, unless otherwise indicated. Fabricate frames of minimum 18-gage cold-rolled steel.
1. Fabricate frames with mitered or coped and continuously welded corners and seamless face joints, unless otherwise indicated.
2. Fabricate frames with mitered or coped corners knocked-down, for field assembly.
3. Form exterior frames from 16-gage galvanized steel.
B. Door Silencers: Except on weather stripped frames, drill stops to receive 3 silencers on strike jambs of single-door frames and 2 silencers on heads of double-door frames.
2.05 FABRICATION
A. Fabricate steel door and frame units to be rigid, neat in appearance and free from defects, warp or buckle. Wherever practicable, fit and assemble units in manufacturer's plant.
Clearly identify work that cannot be permanently factory-assembled before shipment, to assure proper assembly at project site. Comply with ANSI/SDI-100 requirements.
1. Internal Construction: Manufacturer's standard honeycomb, polyurethane, polystyrene, unitized steel grid, vertical steel stiffeners, or rigid mineral fiber core with internal sound deadener on inside of face sheets where appropriate in accordance with SDI standards.
2. Clearances: Not more than 1/8 inch at jambs and heads except between non-fire-rated pairs of doors not more than 1/4 inch. Not more than 3/4 inch at bottom.
B. Fabricate exposed faces of doors and panels, including stiles and rails of nonflush units, from only cold-rolled steel.
C. Tolerances: Comply with SDI 117 "Manufacturing Tolerances Standard Steel Doors and
Frames."
D. Fabricate frames, concealed stiffeners, reinforcement, edge channels, louvers and moldings from either cold-rolled or hot-rolled steel.

E. Fabricate exterior doors, panels, and frames from galvanized sheet steel in accordance with SDI-112. Close top and bottom edges of exterior doors as integral part of door construction or by addition of minimum 16-gage inverted steel channels.
F. Exposed Fasteners: Unless otherwise indicated, provide countersunk flat or oval heads for exposed screws and bolts.
G. Thermal-Rated (Insulating) Assemblies: At exterior locations and elsewhere as shown or scheduled, provide doors fabricated as thermal insulating door and frame assemblies and tested in accordance with ASTM C 236 or ASTM C 976 on fully operable door assemblies.
1. Unless otherwise indicated, provide thermal-rated assemblies with U factor of
0.41 Btu/(hr x sq ft x deg F.) or better.
H. Hardware Preparation: Prepare doors and frames to receive mortised and concealed hardware in accordance with final Door Hardware Schedule and templates provided by hardware supplier. Comply with applicable requirements of ANSI A115 Series Specifications for door and frame preparation for hardware.
I. Reinforce doors and frames to receive surface-applied hardware. Drilling and tapping for surface-applied hardware may be done at project site.
J. Locate hardware as indicated on final shop drawings or, if not indicated, in accordance with "Recommended Locations for Builder's Hardware on Standard Steel Doors and Frames," published by Door and Hardware Institute.
K. Shop Painting: Clean, treat, and paint exposed surfaces of steel door and frame units, including galvanized surfaces.
1. Clean steel surfaces of mill scale, rust, oil, grease, dirt, and other foreign materials before application of paint.
2. Apply shop coat of prime paint of even consistency to provide a uniformly finished surface ready to receive finish paint.
L. Glazing Stops: Minimum 20 gage steel or .040-inch-thick aluminum.
1. Provide non-removable stops on outside of exterior doors and on secure side of interior doors for glass, louvers, and other panels in doors.
2. Provide screw applied removable glazing beads on inside of glass, louvers, and other panels in doors.
PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.01 INSTALLATION
A. General: Install standard steel doors, frames, and accessories in accordance with final shop drawings, manufacturer's data, and as herein specified.
B. Placing Frames: Comply with provisions of SDI-105 "Recommended Erection
Instructions For Steel Frames," unless otherwise indicated.
1. Set frames accurately in position, plumbed, aligned, and braced securely until permanent anchors are set. After wall construction is completed, remove temporary braces and spreaders leaving surfaces smooth and undamaged.
2. Install Fire-rated frames in accordance with NFPA Standard No. 80.
3. In in-place drywall partitions install knock down slip-on drywall frames
C. Door Installation: Fit hollow metal doors accurately in frames, within clearances specified in ANSI/SDI-100.
1. Install fire-rated doors in accordance with NFPA Standard No. 80.
3.02 ADJUST AND CLEAN
A. Prime Coat Touch-up: Immediately after erection, sand smooth any rusted or damaged areas of prime coat and apply touch-up of compatible air-drying primer.
B. Protection Removal: Immediately prior to final inspection, remove protective plastic wrappings from prefinished doors.
C. Final Adjustments: Check and readjust operating hardware items, leaving steel doors and frames undamaged and in complete and proper operating condition.

FLUSH WOOD DOORS
1.1 SECTION REQUIREMENTS
A. Submit samples for factory-finished doors.
B. Quality Standard: NWWDA I.S.1-A.
C. Fire-Rated Wood Doors: Labeled by a testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction based on testing per ASTM E 152.
2.1 FLUSH WOOD DOORS
A. Interior Solid Core Doors for Transparent Finish: Economy Grade, 5-ply, particleboard core.
1. Faces: Red oak, plain sliced.
B. Fire-Rated Solid Core Doors: Core construction to provide fire-rating indicated, faces and grade to match non-fire-rated doors.
1. Composite blocking where required to eliminate through-bolting hardware.
2. Laminated-edge construction.
3. Formed-steel edges and astragals for pairs of fire-rated doors.
2.2 VENEER MATCHING
A. Doors with veneers: book and running matched.
B. Pair matching and set matching.
C. Continuous matching for doors with transoms.
2.3 FABRICATION AND FINISHING
A. Factory fit doors to suit frame-opening sizes indicated and to comply with referenced quality standard.

1. Comply with NFPA 80 for fire-resistance-rated doors.
B. Factory machine doors for hardware that is not surface applied.
C. Cut and trim openings to comply with referenced standards.
1. Trim light openings with moldings indicated.
2. Factory install louvers in prepared openings.
D. Factory finish wood doors with NWWDA Standard grade, System 5, clear semi-gloss polyurethane finish.
3.1 INSTALLATION
A. Install doors to comply with referenced quality standard.
1. Install fire-rated doors to comply with NFPA 80.
B. Align and fit doors in frames with uniform clearances and bevels. Machine doors for hardware. Seal cut surfaces after fitting and machining.
C. Align factory-fitted doors in frames for uniform clearances.
D. Repair, refinish, or replace factory-finished doors damaged during installation, as directed by Contracting Officer.

ACCESS DOORS AND PANELS
A. Submit Product Data.
B. Where fire-rated access doors are required, provide doors that comply with NFPA 80, are identical to door and frame assemblies tested for fire-test-response characteristics per ASTM E 152 for vertical installations and ASTM E 119 for horizontal installations and are labeled and listed by UL, Warnock Hersey, or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.
2.1 ACCESS DOORS AND PANELS
A. Type T-2 by Bilco Company or approved equal for crawl space access through first floor. Frame ¼” extruded aluminum. Door leaf 3/16” for both carpet or composition flooring inserts. Live load capacity of 150lb/ft2 with a maximum allowable deflection of 1/150th of the span. Aluminum mill finish, with bituminous coating and chromate sealed
1. Manufacturer’s 5-year material and workmanship warrantee.
2. Size: 2’-6”x 2’-6”.
B. WB-GP by William Bros. Corporation of America or approved equal for above ceiling access. Frame: 18 gauge steel having a depth of 1-¾”. Door leaf and trim: 14 gauge steel with 1-½” trim. Finish: Electrostatically applied baked gray enamel, over phosphate treated steel.
A. Install access doors and panels accurately in position and as per manufacturer’s installation instructions. Adjust hardware and door and panels for proper operation.
B. Install fire-rated access doors and panels according to NFPA 80.

SECTION 08561
VINYL WINDOWS
1.1 DESCRIPTIONS
A. Provide polyvinyl chloride (PVC) windows with integral flashing, and glazing specified in Section 08800, and accessories as required for complete, weathertight installation.
B. Special Coordination: Coordinate installation with Section 07190 Building Paper to en-sure watertight installation of flanged type windows and door; refer to Part 3 of Section 07190 for special window and door installation requirements.
1.2 SECTION REQUIREMENTS
A. Submittals: Submit Product Data, Shop Drawings, and Samples.
PART 2 – PRODUCTS
2.1 VINYL WINDOWS
A. Milgard StyleLine Series Windows.
B. Provide vinyl windows that comply with AAMA/NWWDA 101/I.S.2.
1. Comply with California Building Code, 1998 Edition and AAMA 101 for each type of window and door indicated.
2. Provide AAMA-certified vinyl windows with an attached label.
3. Provide units labeled and certified according to NFRC's Product Certification Pro-gram, with maximum U-value of 0.30 Btu/sq. ft. x h x deg F, as determined accord-ing to NFRC 100, and a maximum Solar Heat Gain Coefficient of 0.30 as deter-mined according to NFRC 200.
4. Equip units with vinyl-coated glass-fiber mesh insect screens at operable sashes.
5. Window Color: White.
C. Insulated Glass: Refer to SECTION 08800 Glass and Glazing.

PART 3 – EXECUTION
A. Set units level, plumb, and true to line, without warp or rack of frames and panels and anchor securely in place.
B. Set sill members in bed of sealant or with gaskets, as indicated, to provide weathertight construction.
C. Adjust operating panels, screens, and hardware for smooth operation and weathertight closure. Lubricate hardware and moving parts.
3.2 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. On-Site Tests: Conduct tests for air and water infiltration with window manufacturer’s representative present, correct units failing tests.
1. Test: Conduct in accordance with AAMA 502.
2. Air Infiltration: Maximum infiltration of 1.5 times amount specified.
3. Water Penetration: Conduct at static pressure of 3.00 psf (min.).

1.4 PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS
A. Completed skylight assemblies shall be capable of meeting the following performance requirements:
1. Air Infiltration Test: Air Infiltration maximum 0.10 cfm per foot of crack length at 6.24 psf pressure differential when tested in accordance with ASTM E283.
2. Water Resistance Test: No uncontrolled water leakage at 6.00 psf pressure differential with water rate of 5 gallons/hours/sf when tested in accordance with ASTM E331.
3. Uniform Load Test: No breakage, permanent damage to fasteners, hardware parts, or damage to make tubular skylight inoperable, or cause permanent deflection of any section in excess of 1 percent of its span at either a maximum Positive or Negative Load of 100 psf (4.7881 kPa) for the 10 inch (254 mm) and 14 inch (356 mm) units and 35 psf (1.6758 kPa) for the 21 inch (533 mm) unit. All units shall be tested with a safety factor of (3) for positive pressure and (2) for negative pressure, acting normal to plane of roof in accordance with
ASTM E 330.
4. Fire Testing:
a. Class ’B’ Burning Brand – The burning brand shall self-extinguish without transferring the fire to the dome Per: U.B.C. Standard 15-2 Class ‘B’ Burning Brand Test. See ASTM E 108 and UL 790.
b. Self-Ignition Temperature - Greater than 650 degrees F Per: U.B.C.
Standard 26-6. See ASTM D-1929-68 (1975).
c. Smoke Density - Rating no greater than 75 Per: U.B.C. Standard 26-5.
(See ASTM D-2843-70) or no greater than 450 Per U.B.C. 8-1 (See ASTM Standard E 84-91A) in way intended for use.
d. Rate of Burn - Minimum Burning Rate: 2.5 inches/min (64 mm/min) Classification CC-2: U.B.C. Standard 26-7. See ASTM D-635-74.
1.5 SUBMITTALS
A. Submit under provisions of Section 01300.
B. Product Data: Manufacturer's data sheets on each product to be used, including:
1. Preparation instructions and recommendations.
2. Storage and handling requirements and recommendations.
3. Installation methods.
C. Shop Drawings.

D. Verification Samples: As requested by Contracting Officer.
E. Test Reports: Independent testing agency or evaluation service reports verifying compliance with specified performance requirements.
1.6 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Manufacturer Qualifications: Engaged in manufacture of tubular skylights for minimum 10 years.
1.7 DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING
A. Store products in manufacturer's unopened packaging until ready for installation.
B. Store and dispose of solvent-based materials, and materials used with solvent-based materials, in accordance with requirements of local authorities having jurisdiction.
1.8 PROJECT CONDITIONS
A. Maintain environmental conditions (temperature, humidity, and ventilation) within limits recommended by manufacturer for optimum results. Do not install products under environmental conditions outside manufacturer's absolute limits.
1.9 WARRANTY
A. Skylights: Manufacturer's standard warranty for 10 years.

2.2 TUBULAR SKYLIGHTS
A. Tubular Skylights General : Transparent roof-mounted skylight dome and self-flashing curb, reflective tube, and ceiling level diffuser assembly, transferring sunlight to interior spaces; complying with ICBO/ICC AC-16. All components made and assembled by one manufacturer.
B. Solatube Brighten Up Series 14 Inch (356 mm) Tubes: Transparent, UV and impact resistant dome with flashing base supporting dome and top of tube.

1. Roof Dome Assembly:
a. Glazing: 0.120 inch (3.05 mm) minimum thickness injection molded acrylic classified as CC2 material and meeting characteristics of Duradome(r) DR-101 blend. Visible light transmission minimum 92 percent.
b. Glazing: 0.080 inch (2.03 mm) minimum thickness polycarbonate classified as CC1 material.
2. Flashing Base: One piece, seamless, leak-proof flashing functioning as base support for dome and top of tube.

b. Base Pitch (Slope): SEE DRAWINGS.
3. Dome Ring: Attached to top of base section; 0.090 inch (2.3 mm) nominal thickness injection molded high impact ABS; to prevent thermal bridging between base flashing and tubing and channel condensed moisture out of tubing; weather sealed.
4. Reflective Extension Tube: Aluminum sheet, thickness 0.015 inch (0.4 mm).
a. Interior Finish: Spectralight Infinity high reflectance specular finish on exposed reflective surface; specular reflectance 99 percent for visible spectrum, less than 93 percent for total solar spectrum at field angle of
1.5 degrees.
b. Color: as selected by Contracting Officer shall not exceed plus 2 or be less than minus 2 as determined in accordance to ASTM E 308.
c. Tube Diameter: Approximately 14 inches (356 mm).
5. Ceiling Ring: Injection molded high impact ABS. Nominal thickness is 0.085 inches.
6. Dress Ring: Injection molded high impact ABS. Nominal thickness is 0.100 inches. Prevents air infiltration and condensation from attic spaces.
7. Dual Glazed Diffuser Assembly:
a. Upper glazing: Acrylic plastic classified as CC2 material. Thickness shall not be less than 0.030 inches.
b. Lower glazing: Molded polycarbonate plastic classified as CC1 material.
Thickness shall not be less than 0.024 inches. Provide OptiView Fresnel lens design to maximize light output and diffusion.
c. Lower glazing (prismatic lens): Acrylic plastic classified as CC2 material. Thickness shall not be less than 0.030 inches.
d. Lower glazing (frosted lens): Acrylic plastic classified as CC2 material.

3.1 EXAMINATION

B. Prepare surfaces using the methods recommended by the manufacturer for achieving the best result for the substrate under the project conditions.

DOOR HARDWARE
1.01 RELATED DOCUMENTS
A. Drawings and general provisions of Contract, including General and Supplementary
Conditions and Division 1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.
1.02 SUMMARY
A. This Section includes items known commercially as finish or door hardware that are required for swing, sliding, and folding doors, except special types of unique hardware specified in the same sections as the doors and door frames on which they are installed.
B. This Section includes the following:
1. Hinges.
2. Lock and latch sets.
3. Bolts.
4. Closers.
5. Overhead holders.
6. Miscellaneous door control devices.
7. Door trim units.
8. Protection plates.
9. Weatherstripping for exterior doors.
10. Astragals or meeting seals on pairs of doors.
11. Thresholds.
C. Related Sections: The following Sections contain requirements that relate to this Section:
1. Section 08111 "Standard Steel Doors and Frames" for silencers integral with hollow metal frames.

D. Selection and Ordering: Furnish door hardware as selected by Contracting Officer and in such quantities as provided for under the Contract.
E. Contractor's responsibilities shall be as follows:
1. Submittals: Submit required product data, final hardware schedule, separate keying schedule, and samples as specified in this Section, unless otherwise indicated. Coordinate and process submittals for door hardware in same manner as submittals for other work.
2. Construction Schedule: Cooperate with door hardware supplier in establishing scheduled dates for submittals and delivery of templates and door hardware.
Incorporate in construction schedule the times and dates related to furnishing hardware by door hardware supplier.
3. Coordination: Coordinate door hardware with other Work. Furnish hardware supplier or manufacturer with shop drawings of other work where required or requested. Verify completeness and suitability of hardware with supplier.
4. Installation Information: The general types and approximate quantities of hardware required for this Project are indicated at the end of this Section in order to establish Contractor's costs for installation and other work not included in allowance.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. General: Submit the following in accordance with Conditions of Contract and Division 1
Specification sections.
B. Product data including manufacturers' technical product data for each item of door hardware, installation instructions, maintenance of operating parts and finish, and other information necessary to show compliance with requirements.
C. Final hardware schedule coordinated with doors, frames, and related work to ensure proper size, thickness, hand, function, and finish of door hardware.
1. Final Hardware Schedule Content: Based on hardware indicated, organize schedule into "hardware sets" indicating complete designations of every item required for each door or opening. Include the following information:
a. Type, style, function, size, and finish of each hardware item.
b. Name and manufacturer of each item.
c. Fastenings and other pertinent information.
d. Location of each hardware set cross referenced to indications on Drawings both on floor plans and in door and frame schedule.
e. Explanation of all abbreviations, symbols, and codes contained in schedule.

f. Mounting locations for hardware.
g. Door and frame sizes and materials.
h. Keying information.
2. Submittal Sequence: Submit final schedule at earliest possible date particularly where acceptance of hardware schedule must precede fabrication of other work that is critical in the Project construction schedule. Include with schedule the product data, samples, shop drawings of other work affected by door hardware, and other information essential to the coordinated review of schedule.
3. Keying Schedule: Submit separate detailed schedule indicating clearly how the
Government's final instructions on keying of locks has been fulfilled.
D. Templates for doors, frames, and other work specified to be factory prepared for the installation of door hardware. Check shop drawings of other work to confirm that adequate provisions are made for locating and installing door hardware to comply with indicated requirements.
1.04 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. Single Source Responsibility: Obtain each type of hardware (latch and lock sets, hinges, closers, etc.) from a single manufacturer.
B. Supplier Qualifications: A recognized architectural door hardware supplier, that has a record of successful in-service performance for supplying door hardware similar in quantity, type, and quality to that indicated for this Project.
C. Fire-Rated Openings: Provide door hardware for fire-rated openings that complies with
NFPA Standard No. 80 and requirements of authorities having jurisdiction. Provide only items of door hardware that are listed and are identical to products tested by UL, Warnock Hersey, FM, or other testing and inspecting organization acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction for use on types and sizes of doors indicated in compliance with requirements of fire-rated door and door frame labels.
1.05 MAINTENANCE
A. Maintenance Tools and Instructions: Furnish a complete set of specialized tools and maintenance instructions as needed for Government's continued adjustment, maintenance, and removal and replacement of door hardware.

2.02 SCHEDULED HARDWARE
A. Requirements for design, grade, function, finish, size, and other distinctive qualities of each type of finish hardware are indicated in the "Hardware Schedule" at the end of this Section. Products are identified by using hardware designation numbers of the following:
1. Manufacturer's Product Designations: The product designation and name of one manufacturer are listed for each hardware type required for the purpose of establishing minimum requirements. Provide either the product designated or, where more than one manufacturer is specified under the Article "Manufacturers" in Part 2 for each hardware type, the comparable product of one of the other manufacturers that complies with requirements.
2. ANSI/BHMA designations used elsewhere in this Section or in schedules to describe hardware items or to define quality or function are derived from the following standards. Provide products complying with these standards and requirements specified elsewhere in this Section.

2.03 MATERIALS AND FABRICATION
A. Manufacturer's Name Plate: Do not use manufacturers' products that have manufacturer's name or trade name displayed in a visible location (omit removable nameplates) except in conjunction with required fire-rated labels and as otherwise acceptable to Contracting Officer.
1. Manufacturer's identification will be permitted on rim of lock cylinders only.

B. Base Metals: Produce hardware units of basic metal and forming method indicated, using manufacturer's standard metal alloy, composition, temper, and hardness, but in no case of lesser (commercially recognized) quality than specified for applicable hardware units by applicable ANSI/BHMA A156 series standards for each type of hardware item and with ANSI/BHMA A156.18 for finish designations indicated. Do not furnish "optional" materials or forming methods for those indicated, except as otherwise specified.
C. Fasteners: Provide hardware manufactured to conform to published templates, generally prepared for machine screw installation. Do not provide hardware that has been prepared for self-tapping sheet metal screws, except as specifically indicated.
D. Furnish screws for installation with each hardware item. Provide Phillips flat-head screws except as otherwise indicated. Finish exposed (exposed under any condition) screws to match hardware finish or, if exposed in surfaces of other work, to match finish of this other work as closely as possible including "prepared for paint" surfaces to receive painted finish.
E. Provide concealed fasteners for hardware units that are exposed when door is closed except to the extent no standard units of type specified are available with concealed fasteners. Do not use thru-bolts for installation where bolt head or nut on opposite face is exposed in other work unless their use is the only means of reinforcing the work adequately to fasten the hardware securely. Where thru-bolts are used as a means of reinforcing the work, provide sleeves for each thru-bolt or use sex screw fasteners.
2.04 HINGES, BUTTS, AND PIVOTS
A. Templates: Provide only template-produced units.
B. Screws: Provide Phillips flat-head screws complying with the following requirements:
1. For metal doors and frames install machine screws into drilled and tapped holes.
2. For fire-rated wood doors install #12 x 1-1/4-inch, threaded-to-the-head steel wood screws.
3. Finish screw heads to match surface of hinges or pivots.
C. Hinge Pins: Except as otherwise indicated, provide hinge pins as follows:
1. Out-Swing Exterior Doors: Nonremovable pins.
2. Out-Swing Corridor Doors with Locks: Nonremovable pins.
3. Interior Doors: Nonrising pins.
4. Tips: Flat button and matching plug, finished to match leaves, except where

hospital tip (HT) indicated.
D. Number of Hinges: Provide number of hinges indicated but not less than 3 hinges per door leaf for doors 90 inches or less in height and one additional hinge for each 30 inches of additional height.
1. Fire-Rated Doors: Not less than 3 hinges per door leaf for doors 86 inches or less in height with same rule for additional hinges.
2.05 LOCK CYLINDERS AND KEYING
A. Review the keying system with the Contracting Officer and provide the type required.
B. Equip locks with manufacturer's special 6-pin tumbler cylinder with construction masterkey feature that permits voiding of construction keys without cylinder removal.
C. Metals: Construct lock cylinder parts from brass or bronze, stainless steel, or nickel silver.
D. Comply with Contracting Officer's instructions for masterkeying and, except as otherwise indicated, provide individual change key for each lock that is not designated to be keyed alike with a group of related locks.
1. Permanently inscribe each key with number of lock that identifies cylinder manufacturer's key symbol, and notation, G. Key Material: Provide keys of nickel silver only.
E. Key Quantity: Furnish 3 change keys for each lock, 5 master keys for each master system.
1. Furnish one extra blank for each lock.
2. Deliver keys to Contracting Officer.
2.06 LOCKS, LATCHES, AND BOLTS
A. Strikes: Provide manufacturer's standard wrought box strike for each latch or lock bolt, with curved lip extended to protect frame, finished to match hardware set, unless otherwise indicated.
1. Provide flat lip strikes for locks with 3-piece, antifriction latchbolts as recommended by manufacturer.
2. Provide recess type top strikes for bolts locking into head frames, unless otherwise indicated.

3. Provide dust-proof strikes for foot bolts, except where special threshold construction provides nonrecessed strike for bolt.
4. Provide roller type strikes where recommended by manufacturer of the latch and lock units.
B. Lock Throw: Provide 5/8-inch minimum throw of latch on pairs of doors. Comply with
UL requirements for throw of bolts and latch bolts on rated fire openings.
1. Provide 1/2-inch minimum throw of latch for other bored and preassembled types of locks and 3/4-inch minimum throw of latch for mortise locks. Provide 1-inch minimum throw for all dead bolts.
C. Flush Bolt Heads: Minimum of 1/2-inch-diameter rods of brass, bronze, or stainless steel with minimum 12-inch-long rod for doors up to 7'-0" in height. Provide longer rods as necessary for doors exceeding 7'-0" in height.
2.07 CLOSERS AND DOOR CONTROL DEVICES
A. Size of Units: Except as otherwise specifically indicated, comply with the manufacturer's recommendations for size of door control unit depending on size of door, exposure to weather, and anticipated frequency of use.
1. Where parallel arms are indicated for closers, provide closer unit one size larger than recommended for use with standard arms.
B. Access-Free Manual Closers: Where manual closers are indicated provide adjustable units complying with ANSI A117.1 provisions for door opening force and delayed action closing.
C. Provide gray resilient parts for exposed bumpers.
2.08 DOOR TRIM UNITS
A. Fasteners: Provide manufacturer's standard exposed fasteners for door trim units consisting of either machine screws or self-tapping screws.
B. Fabricate edge trim of stainless steel to fit door thickness in standard lengths or to match height of protection plates.
C. Fabricate protection plates not more than 1-1/2 inches less than door width on hinge side and not more than 1/2 inch less than door width on pull side by height indicated.
1. Metal Plates: Stainless steel, 0.050 inch (U.S. 18 gage).
2. Plastic Plates: Clear acrylic plastic, 1/8 inch thick.

2.09 WEATHERSTRIPPING AND SEALS
A. General: Provide continuous weatherstripping on exterior doors and smoke, light, or sound seals on interior doors where indicated or scheduled. Provide noncorrosive fasteners for exterior applications and elsewhere as indicated.
B. Replaceable Seal Strips: Provide only those units where resilient or flexible seal strip is easily replaceable and readily available from stocks maintained by manufacturer.
C. Weatherstripping at Jambs and Heads: Provide bumper-type resilient insert and metal retainer strips, surface applied unless shown as mortised or semimortised, and of following metal, finish, and resilient bumper material:
1. Extruded bronze, finish to match frame, 0.050-inch minimum thickness of main walls and flanges.
2. Sponge neoprene conforming to MIL R 6130, Class II (Closed Cell).
a. Grade A (30 deg F to 150 deg F, oil-resistant and self-extinguishing).
b. Grade B (30 deg F to 150 deg F, non-oil-resistant).
c. Grade C (67 deg F to 170 deg F, low temperature).
3. Expanded neoprene: Cellular rubber conforming to ASTM D 1056 Type 2
(closed-cell); Class B (low-swell, oil-resistant); Grade 2 (compression-deflection of 5 - 9 psi); and self-extinguishing in following size:
a. 3/16 inch x 5/8 inch.
b. 1/4 inch x 3/4 inch.
c. 3/8 inch x 1-1/4 inches.
4. Solid neoprene conforming to MIL R 6855, Class II, Grade 40.
a. Flexible, hollow bulb or loop insert.
5. Flexible vinyl hollow bulb or loop insert.
6. Brush pile insert of polypropylene or nylon woven pile and aluminum strip backing complying with AAMA 701.2.
D. Weatherstripping at Door Bottoms: Provide threshold consisting of contact-type resilient insert and metal housing of design and size shown and of following metal, finish, and resilient seal strip:
1. Extruded bronze finished to match doors; 0.050-inch minimum thickness of main walls and flanges.

2. Solid neoprene wiper or sweep seal complying with MIL R 6855, Class II, Grade

3. Flexible vinyl wiper or sweep seal strip.

2.10 THRESHOLDS
A. General: Except as otherwise indicated, provide standard metal threshold unit of type, size, and profile as shown or scheduled.
B. Exterior Hinged or Pivoted Doors: Provide units not less than 4 inches wide, formed to accommodate change in floor elevation where indicated, fabricated to accommodate door hardware and to fit door frames, and as follows:
2.11 HARDWARE FINISHES
A. Match items to the manufacturer's standard color and texture finish for the latch and lock sets (or push-pull units if no latch or lock sets).
B. Provide finishes that match those established by BHMA or, if none established, match the
Contracting Officer's sample.
C. Provide quality of finish, including thickness of plating or coating (if any), composition, hardness, and other qualities complying with manufacturer's standards, but in no case less than specified by referenced standards for the applicable units of hardware.
D. The designations used in schedules and elsewhere to indicate hardware finishes are those listed in ANSI/BHMA A156.18, "Materials and Finishes," including coordination with the traditional U.S. finishes shown by certain manufacturers for their products.
E. The designations used in schedules and elsewhere to indicate hardware finishes are the industry-recognized standard commercial finishes, except as otherwise noted.
1. Rust-Resistant Finish: For iron and steel base metal required for exterior work and in areas shown as "High Humidity" areas (and also when designed with the suffix -RR), provide 0.2-mil-thick copper coating on base metal before applying brass, bronze, nickel, or chromium plated finishes.
3.01 INSTALLATION

A. Mount hardware units at heights indicated in following applicable publications, except as specifically indicated or requi red to comply with governing regulations and except as otherwise directed by Contracting Officer.
1. "Recommended Locations for Builders Hardware for Standard Steel Doors and
Frames" by the Door and Hardware Institute.
B. Install each hardware item in compliance with the manufacturer's instructions and recommendations. Where cutting and fitting is required to install hardware onto or into surfaces that are later to be painted or finished in another way, coordinate removal, storage, and reinstallation or application of surface protection with finishing work specified in the Division 9 Sections. Do not install surface-mounted items until finishes have been completed on the substrates involved.
C. Set units level, plumb, and true to line and location. Adjust and reinforce the attachment substrate as necessary for proper installation and operation.
D. Drill and countersink units that are not factory prepared for anchorage fasteners. Space fasteners and anchors in accordance with industry standards.
E. Set thresholds for exterior doors in full bed of butyl-rubber or polyisobutylene mastic sealant complying with requirements specified in Section 07921 "Joint Sealers."
F. Weatherstripping and Seals: Comply with manufacturer's instructions and recommendations to the extent installation requirements are not otherwise indicated.
3.02 ADJUSTING, CLEANING, AND DEMONSTRATING
A. Adjust and check each operating item of hardware and each door to ensure proper operation or function of every unit. Replace units that cannot be adjusted to operate freely and smoothly or as intended for the application made.
1. Where door hardware is installed more than one month prior to acceptance or occupancy of a space or area, return to the installation during the week prior to acceptance or occupancy and make final check and adjustment of all hardware items in such space or area. Clean operating items as necessary to restore proper function and finish of hardware and doors. Adjust door control devices to compensate for final operation of heating and ventilating equipment.
B. Clean adjacent surfaces soiled by hardware installation.
C. Instruct Government's personnel in the proper adjustment and maintenance of door hardware and hardware finishes.

PART 1 – GENERAL
A. Submittals: Product Data and samples if requested.
B. Fire-Resistance-Rated Assemblies: Products identical to those tested per NFPA 252 for doors and NFPA 257 for window assemblies; both labeled and listed by UL or another testing and inspecting agency acceptable to authorities having jurisdiction.
C. Safety Glass: Category II materials complying with testing requirements in
16 CFR 1201 and ANSI Z97.1.
D. Comply with written instructions of glass product manufacturers; GANA's "Glazing Manual;" and publications of GANA, AAMA, and SIGMA as applicable to products indicated, unless more stringent requirements are indicated.
E. Insulating-Glass Units: Permanently mark with appropriate certification label of one of the inspecting and testing agencies indicated below:

F. 1. Normal thermal movement is defined as that resulting from an ambient tem-perature range of 120 deg. F (67 deg. C) and from a consequent temperature range within glass and glass framing members of 180 deg. F (100 deg. C).
2. Deterioration of insulating glass is defined as failure of hermetic seal due to other causes than breakage which results in intrusion of dirt or moisture, inter-nal condensation or fogging, deterioration of protected internal glass coating, if any, resulting from seal failure, and any other visual evidence of seal failure or performance.

3. Safety Glass: ASTM C1048, Kind FT, fully tempered select glazing quality clear float safety glass at windows or doors and where required by codes and regulations.
