SECTION 01010
SUMMARY OF WORK
PART 1 - GENERAL
1.01 PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A. This project consists of a new Barracks for the United States Department of Agriculture
Forest Service as shown on the contract documents prepared by Hilliard-Lau Architects, Inc.
B. The work consists of a new 1-story wood-framed building constructed at the Saugus Site located on the Angeles National Forest.
C. The Work includes concrete, structural steel, waterproofing, wood frame construction, standing seam metal roofing, roof accessories, horizontal metal siding, sheet metal, exterior hollow metal doors and frames, interior solid core wood doors and frames, vinyl windows, hardware, glazing, interior finishes, appliances, furniture, plumbing, heating-ventilating-air conditioning, electrical systems, lighting, and communication systems.
D. Interior finishing and related construction, include interior partitions and permanent doors, and mechanical and electrical installations.
E. The work shall conform to the specifications and the Contract Drawings identified on the following index of drawings:

1.02 METHOD OF MEASUREMENT:
A. Units: There will be no separate measurement for individual items of work done under this
Contract.
1.03 BASIS OF PAYMENT:
A. Payment: Payment will be made at the Contract price, as indicated in the Bid Schedule, and will include full compensation for the work described in the Contract. Payment will be made under:

1.04 CONTRACTOR USE OF PREMISES
A. General: During the construction period the Contractor will have full use of the barracks site for construction operations. The Contractor's use of the premises is limited to the barracks site and adjacent areas agreed upon by the Contracting Officer for storage of equipment and materials. No overnight camping by the Contractor’s personnel will be allowed.
B. Sanitation: Sanitation facilities are to be provided by contractor.
C. Utilities: Water is available and may be used by the Contractor’s personnel. Electrical power is available at the construction site.
D. While performing the work the Contractor shall take reasonable precautions to protect adjacent properties from damage. The Contractor at no additional cost to the Government shall restore any damage or injury caused by the Contractor in the course of this work.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 REQUIREMENTS OF REGULATORY AGENCIES
A. All work performed shall comply with health, safety and fire codes, OSHA regulations, and/or applicable regulations established by local, county and state codes.

SECTION 01040
PROJECT COORDINATION
1.01 SCOPE
A. This Section specifies administrative and supervisory requirements necessary for Project coordination including, but not necessarily limited to:
1. Coordination.
2. Contractor's personnel.
3. General installation provisions.
4. Cleaning and protection.
1.02 COORDINATION
A. Coordination: Coordinate construction activities included under various Sections of these
Specifications to assure efficient and orderly installation of each part of the Work.
Coordinate construction operations included under different Sections of the Specifications that are dependent upon each other for proper installation, connection, and operation.
1. Where installation of one part of the Work is dependent on installation of other components, either before or after its own installation, schedule construction activities in the sequence required to obtain the best results.
2. Where availability of space is limited, coordinate installation of different components to assure maximum accessibility for required maintenance, service and repair.
3. Make adequate provisions to accommodate items scheduled for later installation.
B. Conservation: Coordinate construction activities to ensure that operations are carried out with consideration given to conservation of energy, water, and materials.
1.03 SUBMITTALS
A. Coordination Drawings: Prepare and submit coordination Drawings where close and careful coordination is required for installation of products and materials fabricated off-site by separate entities, and where limited space availability necessitates maximum utilization of space for efficient installation of different components.

PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 GENERAL INSTALLATION PROVISIONS
A. Inspection of Conditions: Require the Installer of each major component to inspect both the substrate and conditions under which Work is to be performed. Do not proceed until unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected in an acceptable manner.
B. Manufacturer's Instructions: Comply with manufacturer's installation instructions and recommendations, to the extent that those instructions and recommendations are more explicit or stringent than requirements contained in Contract Documents.
C. Inspect materials or equipment immediately upon delivery and again prior to installation.
Reject damaged and defective items.
D. Provide attachment and connection devices and methods necessary for securing Work.
Secure Work true to line and level. Allow for expansion and building movement.
E. Visual Effects: Provide uniform joint widths in exposed Work. Arrange joints in exposed Work to obtain the best visual effect. Refer questionable choices to the Contracting Officer for final decision.
F. Recheck measurements and dimensions, before starting each installation.
G. Install each component during weather conditions and Project status that will ensure the best possible results. Isolate each part of the completed construction from incompatible material as necessary to prevent deterioration.
H. Coordinate temporary enclosures with required inspections and tests, to minimize the necessity of uncovering completed construction for that purpose.
I. Mounting Heights: Where mounting heights are not indicated, install individual components at standard mounting heights recognized within the industry for the particular application indicated. Refer questionable mounting height decisions to the Contracting Officer for final decision.

3.02 CLEANING AND PROTECTION
A. During handling and installation, clean and protect construction in progress and adjoining materials in place. Apply protective covering where required to ensure protection from damage or deterioration.
B. Clean and maintain completed construction as frequently as necessary through the remainder of the construction period. Adjust and lubricate operable components to ensure operability without damaging effects.

1.01 SCOPE
A. This section describes the codes and standards which apply to the work in this contract. Additional codes and standard may be cited in sections to which they apply.

1.03 DEFINITIONS
A. Administrative Authority as used in the Uniform Mechanical Code, the Uniform
Plumbing Code and the National Electrical Code will be the Contracting Officer.
B. Building Official as used in the Uniform Fire Code, International Building Code
Standards will be the Contracting Officer.

SECTION 01300
SHOP DRAWINGS AND SUBMITTALS
1.01 SCOPE:
A. Perform all work necessary and required for the construction of the project as indicated.
Such work includes but is not limited to the following:
1. Shop Drawings
2. Samples
3. Catalog Data
1.02 SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals shall include all pertinent data required to understand the quality of components, dimensional relationships, integration with other materials, assembly techniques, structural aspects, color, finish, texture, and other such characteristics as may be necessary to fully describe the item and its intended use.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 SUBMITTALS
A. Submittals and shop drawings shall be submitted in a timely fashion to allow 21 days for review by the Government. "No work shall begin until shops drawings and submittals are approved".
3.02 SHOP DRAWINGS
A. Original Submittal: A reproducible and three copies of all shop drawings shall be submitted for approval as required under 3.01 above prior to fabrication, installation or order placement to allow for checking and coordination. The reproducible will be retained by the Contracting Officer.
B. Resubmittal: When a resubmittal is required, one print so indicating will be returned to the Contractor. After revision of the original, a new reproducible and three copies shall be submitted for approval.

C. Approval: Once approved, stamped documents shall be returned to the Contractor and shall be complied with as noted. Variation from the approved documents shall be likewise submitted and approved before being carried out.
3.03 SAMPLES
A. Original Submittal: Two samples of each item for which samples are required, unless otherwise specified, shall be furnished for approval. Approval shall be obtained prior to delivery of the material to the project site. These samples shall be representative of the actual material proposed for use in the project and of sufficient size to demonstrate design, color, texture and finish as they will appear in the completed installation.
B. Resubmittals: All rejected samples will be returned upon request and any or all resubmittals required shall consist of two new samples.
C. Approval: Upon approval, one sample so noted will be returned and the remainder will be retained by the Contracting Officer until completion of the work. When requested, all approved samples will be returned for installation providing identity is maintained in an approved manner until final acceptance of the project.
3.04 CATALOG DATA
A. Submittals: Four copies of catalog data are required for the original submittal and each resubmittal. Catalog data shall be submitted along with shop drawings. One copy will be returned unless additional copies are requested.
B. Data: Each submittal shall have all pertinent data contained therein that is applicable to the item submitted for approval.
3.05 IDENTIFICATION
A. Catalog Data: Each separate catalog brochure or page submitted shall have the identification shown. Catalog of brochures submitted containing multiple items for approval need have only cover identification. In such cases the identification shall include page and catalog item numbers.
B. In the event one or more of the multiple items are not approved in any submittal, the additional copies required will not be requested until all items are approved.

SECTION 01401
QUALITY CONTROL AND QUANTITY MEASUREMENT
1.1 SCOPE: This work shall consist of providing quality control in conformance with the
Inspection of Construction provisions of this contract to ensure compliance with the drawings, specifications, and provisions of the contract, and measuring the quantities of completed work in conformance with the provisions of the applicable specifications. The Contractor shall provide all personnel, equipment, tests, and reports necessary to meet the requirements of this specification.
1.2 RELATED WORK: The work shall be in accordance with the following subsidiary specifications. The subsidiary specifications are referred to in the text by the Section designation only.

1.3 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT: No payment under this section.
Payment will be prorated on the percentage of work accomplished on the related pay item that meets specifications.
PART 2 - PRODUCTS (Not Applicable)
3.1 QUALITY CONTROL SYSTEM AND QUANTITY MEASUREMENT:
A. The Contractor shall provide and maintain a quality control system that will ensure that all services, supplies, and construction required under this contract conform to the contract requirements. The Contractor shall perform, or cause to be performed, the sampling, inspection, and testing required to substantiate that all supplies, services, and construction conform to the contract requirements.
B. The Contractor shall also perform, or cause to be performed, all measurement of quantities of materials incorporated into the work or work processes that are to be measured under the provisions of the contract.
C. Quality Control Plan - The Contractor shall submit in writing the following:

1. Authorities and responsibilities of inspection and testing personnel.
2. Experience and qualifications of inspection and testing personnel to be assigned and name and location of any (for hire) testing facility to be used.
D. Approval of Quality Control Plan - The Contractor's proposed quality control plan for all items requiring quality control shall be submitted to the Engineer for review prior to the Contractor commencing work. Within 5 days of receipt of plan, the Engineer shall notify the Contractor whether the plan adequately covers quality control requirements. Construction work shall not be performed prior to Contractor's receipt of written approval of the proposed plan. The Contractor shall submit to the Engineer, in writing, any proposed changes in the approved quality control plan.
Proposed changes shall not be put into effect until approved in writing by the Engineer.
E. Sampling, Testing, Inspection, and Measurement of Quantities - The Contractor shall provide and maintain appropriate measuring and testing devices, equipment, and supplies to accomplish the required measurement, testing, and inspection in a timely manner. Tests, measurements, and certifications shall be made as required by the drawings and specifications. The Contractor shall take samples and perform inspections and tests necessary to achieve the quality of construction required by the contract and make required measurements of work under this contract performed onsite or offsite. Sampling and testing frequency for specific items shall be shown on the Drawings, Specifications or in the table below.

Field density tests shall be performed in the presence of the Contracting Officer and at locations agreed upon with the Contracting Officer.

3.2 RECORDS OF INSPECTION, TESTS, AND MEASUREMENT:
A. Inspection and Tests - The Contractor shall maintain current records of all inspections and tests performed.
The following format or one containing the following information will be acceptable to the government:

The Contractor shall certify in writing that all inspections and tests were performed in accordance with specifications.
B. As-built Drawings - The Contractor shall maintain a set of the contract drawings depicting as-built conditions. These drawings shall be maintained in a current condition and shall be available for review. All variations from contract drawings shall be indicated in red on the drawings. Upon completion of the contract work, as-built drawings shall be submitted to the Engineer.
3.3 CERTIFICATIONS AND MEASUREMENTS:
A. Offsite Produced Materials - The Contractor shall furnish certificates executed by the manufacturer, supplier, or vendor, stipulating that all offsite produced materials incorporated into the work meet the applicable requirements shown on the Drawings or stated in the specifications. Incidental purchases needed to remedy minor shortages of material shall be certified by the Contractor.
B. Quantity Measurements - The Contractor shall make all measurements for computation of quantities for all work items except those specified for payment by

Designed Quantity (DQ). The Contractor shall compute the quantities for periodic progress payments; the Engineer will compute the quantities for the final payment based on measurements taken by the contractor. All Contractor measurements are subject to verification. The Contractor shall submit all field notes, calculation sheets, and other data used to determine quantities. The Contractor shall certify in writing as to the accuracy of the measurements and computations submitted.

PROJECT CLEAN UP
1.01 DESCRIPTION
A. This section covers the disposal of excess material from clearing and grubbing, excavation, building construction, cleaning or any other operation in which waste is generated.
1.02 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. No separate payment shall be made for work specified in this section. Compensation for this work will be considered included in the payment for the completed project.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 WORKMANSHIP
A. The Contractor shall provide refuse containers and proper disposal at weekly intervals for solid wastes generated by Contractor’s employees.
B. All debris and unused material shall be removed from the site. All debris shall be disposed of off National Forest land in accordance with local regulations. Site shall be restored to as near its original condition as possible.
C. Concrete trucks shall not be washed out in the project area. Burning of material is not allowed.
D. At substantial completion the building shall be swept clean of all debris and dust.
Windows and roof shall be cleaned of all dust and marks.

MOBILIZATION
1.01 SCOPE:
A. This work consists of preparatory work and operations necessary for the movement of personnel, equipment, supplies, and incidentals to the project site, and for all other work and operations that must be performed or that cause costs to be incurred prior to beginning work on the various items on the project site.
1.02 MEASUREMENT AND PAYMENT
A. The accepted quantities will be paid for at the contract unit price for Item No. 01, Mobilization.
B. Progress payments will be made as follows:
1. The Government will pay to the Contractor in the first progress payment the total premium paid by the Contractor to obtain bonds. This payment shall not be in addition to the contract price and will be included in Item 01, Mobilization.
2. When 5 percent or more of the original contract amount is earned from other pay items, 50 percent of the amount for mobilization, or 5 percent of the original contract amount, whichever is less, will be paid.
3. When 10 percent or more of the original contract amount is earned from other pay items, 100 percent of the amount for mobilization, or 10 percent of the original contract amount, whichever is less, will be paid.
4. Upon completion of all work on the project, any unpaid amount for Item 01, Mobilization, will be paid.

WATER DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
1.01 SCOPE:
A. This work consists of furnishing and installing new potable water lines as shown on the drawings and specified in this contract.
1.02 CODES AND STANDARDS:
A. In addition to the Codes and Standards listed under Section 01060, Regulatory
Requirements, work performed under this section shall meet the requirements of the following:
1. Uniform Plumbing Code 2006 Edition.
2. National Sanitation Foundation (NSF)
3. American society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
4. International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO)
5. American Water Works Association (AWWA)
a. AWWA Manual M20, "Water Chlorination, Principles and Practices."
b. AWWA Standard C-601-68.
2.01 PIPE AND FITTINGS:
A. All materials shall be new, of size, material, and type called for in these specifications and shown on the drawings.
1. Galvanized Steel Pipe: Galvanized steel pipe and fittings shall be standard weight Schedule 40, with 150 pound class fittings, approved for use with potable water.
2. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Solvent weld Pressure Pipe: PVC pipe with a nominal pipe size of 3 inches and smaller shall be solvent weld pressure pipe, Schedule 40. Pipe shall be NSF approved and meet the requirements of ASTM D-1784 and D-1785.
3. PVC Solvent Cements and Primer: Solvent cements and primer for use with PVC pipe shall comply with the Uniform Plumbing Code Installation Standard

4. Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Pressure Pipe: PVC pipe with a nominal pipe size of 4 inches and larger shall meet the requirements of AWWA C900.
All pipe shall be class 100 rated for 125 psi. Pipe shall be bell end containing a lock-in ring and spigot joint.
5. Pipe Fittings: All change-in-direction fittings for PVC pipe 3 inches and smaller shall be of the same size and material as the pipe it serves. All pipe 4 inches and larger shall make changes in direction with PVC bell end fittings containing a lock-in rings. Fittings shall be of the same size and class as to the pipe it serves.
B. Pipe Thread Sealing Paste: Pipe sealant compound shall be a non-hardening, non-seizing, and non-toxic sealing paste containing TFE-Fluoricarbon approved for use with potable water.
2.02 MARKING TAPE
A. Marking tape shall be 3 inches wide with imprint "Caution - Buried Waterline
Below"; color shall be blue. Tape shall be as manufactured by Calpico Inc., or an approved equal.
B. Where more than one utility is located in a common trench marking type shall be 6 inches wide with imprint "Caution - Buried Utility Lines Below"; color shall be red.
2.03 VALVES
A. Valves and valve boxes shall be new, of size, material and type shown on the drawings or specified herein. All valves shall be equipped with handwheel or other operating devices. Exensions shall be supplied for valves whose standard handle would exceed 12 inches below the top of valve enclosure.
1. SHUT-OFF VALVES: All waterlines 3 inches in diameter and smaller shall use Ball Valves. Ball Valve shall be bronze, bottom loaded, with pressure retaining stem, threaded ends, full opening and with teflon packing and seals.
Valve shall conform to Federal Specification WW-V 35, Type II, Class A. For waterlines larger than 3 inches, the valve shall be iron body - bronze mounted, flanged ends, double disc parallel seat with four point wedging mechanism with handwheel, rated for minimum operating pressure of 150 psi.
2. PRESSURE REDUCING VALVES WITH WYE STRAINER: Water Pressure reducing valves shall be bronze body with an intrigual barrel type strainer. It shall have a pressure setting range of 10 to 35 PSIG. Valve shall have all the charactoristics of a ‘Watts” U5B.

B. Boxes shall be precast concrete. Boxes shall be traffic rated with H20 cast iron frame and cover. Covers shall be marked "Water". Extensions shall be of the same material and manufacturer as the box unless otherwise specified herein. Size of box shall allow for a minimum of 6 inches clearance on all sides of valve and pipes.
2.05 BEDDING AND BACKFILL MATERIALS
A. DRAIN ROCK: Drain rock material shall be uniformly graded, hard, durable, screened material varying in size from 3/4 to 1/2 inch. It shall contain no lumps of soil or clay and free of organic material.
B. SELECT BACKFILL: Select backfill for bedding and backfilling shall consist of fine soil or sand, without stones or dirt clods larger than 3/8 inch.
C. COMMON BACKFILL: Common backfill shall consist of inorganic material containing no rocks larger than 4 inches.
2.06 DISINFECTING AGENT
A. Disinfecting agent shall be calcium hypochlorite, sodium hypochlorite or elemental gaseous chlorine to produce a stock solution of known strength.
PART 3 - EXECUTION
3.01 LAYING PIPELINE
A. Protection of pipe: All pipe and fittings shall be protected during storage and installation to prevent contamination. Care shall be taken during laying and joining to prevent dirt and other objectionable material from entering pipe. Cap or plug lines when work is not in progress.
B. No pipe shall be placed in the trench until the trench subgrade and bedding have been inspected and approved by the Contracting Officer.
C. Pipe installation shall conform with the manufacturer's installation requirements.
PVC pipe shall be cut square to insure proper assembly. PVC gasketed pipe shall be beveled with a plastic pipe pilot beveling tool, hand beveling will not be allowed. Pipe shall be assembled out of the trench and laid in the trench. Dropping pipe into trench after assembly will not be allowed. PVC spigot end pipe shall be assembled with its spigot ends pointing in the direction of flow. Solvent welded pipe shall be snaked in the trench.
Galvanized steel pipe and low alloy steel pipe, two inches and larger in diameter, shall be aligned in the trench prior to making joints. No pipe shall be bent to make deflections in the line. Only standard elbows, fittings, swing joints, or other suitable

means of pipe deflection approved by the Contracting Officer will be allowed.
When pipes are installed in a structure, they shall be adequately supported. Pipe sleeves shall be provided for pipes passing through concrete.
D. Valves and other control devices shall be installed in the line where called for on the drawings. All devices shall be installed with unions to allow for ease of removal.
E. Changes in grade and alignment shall be made with appropriate fittings. The pipe may be bent to the minimum curve radii recommended by the manufacturer.
Mechanically joined pipe shall not exceed 5 degrees deflection at the joint.
Changes in alignment which cannot be made with standard fittings may be accomplished with swing joints installed so the lines drain. All pipe shall be laid with no sags or crests in gradient.
F. Thrust blocks for pipe sizes 4 inches and larger shall be cast in place concrete and installed at all changes in direction of 45 degrees or more, at stops or dead ends, and at valves. Thrust blocks shall be sized in accordance with the pipe munufacturers recommendations and soil conditions.
3.02 BACKFILLING
A. Pipes/pipe zone shall be backfilled with select backfill material. Pipe zone shall be considered as 3 inches in any direction of the pipe. Select backfill shall be placed and compacted in 6 inch maximum lifts.
B. Common backfill shall be placed and compacted in 12 inch maximum lifts. Total backfill over pipe shall be a minimum of 24 inches of cover and top of trench left rounded 3 inches above ground grade, unless pipe is passed under pavement.
Marking tape shall be placed above all buried water lines at 6 to 12 inches below finished ground grade.
3.02 VALVE INSTALLATION
A. The valve assemblies shall be fabricated, assembled, and installed, in location as shown on the drawings and in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendations. The final assembly, including pipe and fittings, shall be tested and disinfected in accordance herein.
B. Valves shall be installed plumb, and well-spaced from other valves, inside of enclosures, and in such positions that they are readily accessible and can be easily and fully operated and maintained without binding on any part of the plumbing, other valves, other appliances, the enclosure or structure walls. Unless otherwise indicated on the drawings or in vertical lines, valve handles or levers shall be on top.

C. All valves shall be supported and braced as necessary to provide full support and prevent movement during normal operation. It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to design, fabricate and install the necessary supports and bracing. All valves shall be placed upon a bed of drain rock material, 6 inch maximum thickness.
D. Each valve, its fittings and appurtenances, shall be kept free of dirt or other foreign materials. Each valve shall be tested for leakage and operation during the system tests.
E. Valve enclosures shall be centered over valves and other appurtenances. Adequate clearance shall be provided between the enclosure and pipelines, valves and appurtenances. Sectional or stacked units shall be permanently assembled. The enclosures shall be installed in such a manner to prevent settlement or other movement after installation. In final position the box shall be 1/2 inch minimum above surrounding finish grade and there shall be a minimum of 1/2 inch clearance between the box and the pipeline at any point.
3.03 TESTING
A. General: All water lines, their fittings, valves and connections, and all appurtenances and devices constructed and installed under this contract shall be tested. After connection to existing systems, sufficient system testing shall be performed to assure the interconnection is acceptable. All tests shall be made in the presence of the Contracting Officer.
B. Preparation for Testing: Before the start of testing, the Contractor shall clean, inspect and remove all dirt or other foreign materials from all piping, valves, fittings and other appurtenance. All equipment shall be set up and approved by the Contracting Officer before testing begins.
C. If it is believed that foreign material may be in the line, all valves on the line shall be thoroughly flushed, and carefully inspected after flushing, to see that the entire operating mechanism of each valve is in good condition.
D. Preliminary tests: Preliminary testing of parts of piping and appurtenance shall be done as soon as possible after construction or installation, and in all cases before joints are concealed or otherwise enclosed within other work constructed under this contract.
E. Testing: All water pipelines, valves, appurtenances, tanks and the like shall be tested for water tightness, to no discernable leakage for 1 hour. Water and other pressure lines, at a minimum pressure of 125 psi or the operating pressure plus 20 pounds, whichever is greater. Failures shall be repaired or replaced, and testing done until acceptance is reached.

3.04 DISINFECTION METHOD
A. After being tested and before being placed into service, the entire potable water system shall be disinfected with chlorine. The system shall be filled with a chlorine solution of 50 parts per million chlorine and left to stand a minimum of 24 hours.
B. After 24 hours, the water in the system shall be tested. If the free chlorine residual is under 25 parts per million, the system shall be drained and disinfected again as described above. This process shall continue until a 25 parts per million residual free chlorine count is obtained after a 24 hour period.
3.05 FINAL FLUSHING
A. Following chlorination, all treated water shall be thoroughly flushed from the newly laid waterline. Flushing shall continue until the free available chlorine level is one milligram per liter or less. Bacteriological samples shall be taken from the hose bibb following disinfection to test the effectiveness of the process. Samples shall be processed by a State Certified Lab and lab results presented to the Contracting Officer's Representative within 48 hours.

GRAVITY SEWER LINES
1.01 SCOPE
A. This work consists of the installation of a gravity sewer system and the connections to the building sewer to the sewer system.
1.02 CODES AND STANDARDS
A. Work performed under this Section shall meet the requirements of Section 01060 in addition to the following unless otherwise specified in this Section:

2.01 SEWER LINE
A. Gravity sewer lines, and building drainlines shall be of the size shown on the drawings. Pipe shall be ABS, solid wall pipe.
B. All fittings and accessories shall be as manufactured and furnished by the pipe supplier and compatible with that of the pipe.
2.02 CLEANOUTS
A. Cleanouts shall be of the same size and material as the sewer line. Cleanout boxes shall be precast concrete boxes with cast iron frame and cover marked "sewer" or "CO", Brooks No. 1RT, or Christy No. F8.
2.03 MARKING TAPE
A. Marking tape shall be 3 inches wide with imprint "Caution - Buried Sewerline Below"; color shall be green. Tape shall be as manufactured by Calpico Inc., or an approved equal.
B. Where more than one utility is located in a common trench marking type shall be 6 inches wide with imprint "Caution - Buried Utility Lines Below"; color shall be red.

3.01 INSTALLATION
A. No pipe shall be laid until the trench subgrade and bedding have been inspected and approved.
B. Laying of lines shall begin at the lowest point in the direction of flow. All piping, fittings, and accessories shall be assembled per manufacturers recommendations and in accordance with the UPC. Pipe deflections shall be kept to a minimum, any deflection of piping shall be per manufacturer's requirements.
C. Before lowering pipe into the trench, the pipe shall be inspected. Cracked, chipped, broken, or otherwise defective pipe will be rejected and removed from the job site.
The ends and interior of the pipe shall be clean.
D. Cleanouts shall be installed AS SHOWN IN THE DRAWINGS. A cleanout shall be installed every 100 feet.
E. Where waterline is being crossed, pipelines of twenty foot length shall be used with the length centered to provide ten foot of distance from the waterline to the nearest sewer or drain line joint. Where water and sewer lines share a common trench, the waterline shall be installed a minimum of 12 inches horizontally and vertically above the top of the sewer line, and constructed on a solid shelf on one side of the trench
3.02 BEDDING AND BACKFILL MATERIAL
A. Lines shall be bedded in sand and backfilled in accordance with Section 02660, Water Distribution System, and as shown on the drawings.
B. Marking tape, appropriately color coded and marked, shall be placed above the lines 6 to 12 inches below finish ground grade and as shown on the drawings.
3.03 CLEANING LINES
A. All sections of pipe shall be cleaned with an inflatable rubber ball of a size that will inflate to fit snugly into the pipe. The ball may be used without a tag line. The ball shall be placed in the last cleanout, manhole, or entry on the pipe to be cleaned, and water shall be introduced behind it. The ball shall pass through the pipe with only the force of the water impelling it. All debris flushed out ahead of the ball shall be removed at the first location or manhole where its presence is noted. In the event that wedged debris, or a damaged pipe, shall stop the ball, the contractor shall remove the obstruction, or make suitable repairs.

3.04 TESTING
A. Sewer lines shall be tested for leaks between the point of connection to the building drain and the sewer main stub out. Testing shall be done by plugging the line and introducing air into the system until the pressure reaches 5 psi. The pressure shall be maintained for a minimum of 15 minutes. Other drain lines shall be plugged at both ends and at any cleanouts, or manholes and tested in the same manner.

3.3 ERECTION - FORMWORK
A. Erect formwork, shoring and bracing to achieve design requirements, in accordance with requirements of ACI 301.
B. Provide bracing to ensure stability of formwork. Shore or strengthen formwork subject to overstressing by construction loads.
C. Arrange and assemble formwork to permit dismantling and stripping. Do not damage concrete during stripping. Permit removal of remaining principal shores.
D. Align joints and make watertight. Keep form joints to a minimum.

3.4 APPLICATION - FORM RELEASE AGENT
A. Apply form release agent on formwork in accordance with manufacturer's recommendations.
B. Apply prior to placement of reinforcing steel, anchoring devices, and embedded items.
C. Do not apply form release agent where concrete surfaces will receive applied coverings which are effected by agent. Soak inside surfaces of untreated forms with clean water.
Keep surfaces coated prior to placement of concrete.
3.5 INSERTS, EMBEDDED PARTS, AND OPENINGS
A. Provide formed openings where required for items to be embedded in passing through concrete work.
B. Locate and set in place items which will be cast directly into concrete.
C. Coordinate with work of other sections in forming and placing openings, slots, sleeves, bolts, anchors, other inserts, and components of other Work.
D. Provide temporary ports or openings in formwork where required to facilitate cleaning and inspection. Locate openings at bottom of forms to allow flushing water to drain.
E. Close temporary openings with tight fitting panels, flush with inside face of forms, and neatly fitted so joints will not be apparent in exposed concrete surfaces.
3.6 FORM CLEANING
A. Clean forms as erection proceeds, to remove foreign matter within forms.
B. Clean formed cavities of debris prior to placing concrete.
C. Flush with water or use compressed air to remove remaining foreign matter. Ensure that

water and debris drain to exterior through clean-out ports.
D. During cold weather, remove ice and snow from within forms. Do not use de-icing salts.
Do not use water to clean out forms, unless formwork and concrete construction proceed within heated enclosure. Use compressed air or other means to remove foreign matter.
3.7 FORMWORK TOLERANCES
A. Construct formwork to maintain tolerances required by ACI 301.
3.8 FIELD QUALITY CONTROL
A. Inspect erected formwork, shoring, and bracing to ensure that work is in accordance with formwork design, and that supports, fastenings, wedges, ties, and items are secure.
B. Do not reuse wood formwork more than 2 times for concrete surfaces to be exposed to view. Do not patch formwork.
3.9 FORM REMOVAL
A. Do not remove forms or bracing until concrete has gained sufficient strength to carry its own weight and imposed loads.
B. Loosen forms carefully. Do not wedge pry bars, hammers, or tools against finish concrete surfaces scheduled for exposure to view.
C. Store removed forms in manner that surfaces to be in contact with fresh concrete will not be damaged. Discard damaged forms.
