ATTACHMENT J-7.B. ILLUSTRATIVE TASK ORDER No. 2 -

CONSTRUCTION OF A NEW SECONDARY GIRLS SCHOOL

I.

PROJECT BACKGROUND

The INP supports agricultural and enterprise development, health, education and local government including the renovation of existing infrastructure and the construction of new infrastructure such as schools, clinics, courthouses, youth centers and offices.

Education is an important element of USAID’s West Bank-Gaza program, and the possibility exists that a portion of INP funds could be allocated to support the education sector.

This Illustrative Task Order concerns the construction of a New Secondary Girls School. While the school described herein is not an actual school, it is representative of the type of school construction that can be found in the West Bank.

The key counterpart organizations for this school project are the Palestinian Authority and its Ministries of Education and of Public Works and Housing.

II.

OBJECTIVE OF THIS TASK ORDER

As noted above, the objective of the New Secondary Girls School Project is to strengthen the quality and long-term impact of education in the West Bank through the construction of educational facilities that serve girls.

III.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The New Secondary Girls School is based on a 2-storey, single building layout with double loaded corridors with 10-15 large class rooms of essentially the same size (approximately 50 m2 in area); computer, Housework, and science laboratories; a library; administrative offices; a reception area; a small kitchen, and toilet facilities.

The designs of each specific school are adjusted to fit its specific site, capacity requirements, and donor inputs, but most are similar to the common design of the PA Ministry of Education. While this task order is illustrative and does not concern a real school project, it is indicative of the types of building construction task orders that will be awarded under the INP IQC

Assume that work is to take place in an area that has no adverse drainage problems, environmental problems, and that the soil conditions are uniform.
