About this file
This is a Questions and Answers document for the Illinois Secretary of State's re-bid for installation of a new boiler at the Chicago West facility located at 5301 W. Lexington Street, Chicago, Illinois. The document addresses clarifications regarding mechanical and controls work required for the project. Key technical requirements include removal of existing pneumatic controls piping and replacement with new control devices, specifically differential pressure sensors around all new pumps and boilers, temperature sensors on inlet and outlet of new boilers, and temperature sensors around common piping for mixing and supply water temperatures. The new controls contractor shall integrate into the existing BACNET Eclypse system managed by Automatic Building Controls. Additionally, the project requires installation of a new 4-inch expansion tank on a concrete housekeeping pad with location and schedule details referenced in Addendum 1 (drawings M2.01L and M6.01), and a new 4-inch air separator specified as B&G model R-4F or equal per drawing M2.01L.
The document clarifies that the mechanical contractor shall serve as the prime contractor responsible for subcontracting electrical work, which represents a minor portion of the overall scope. All new controls work shall be performed by ABC (Automatic Building Controls), with specifications and integration requirements outlined in drawing M5.03, note 5 of Addendum 1. The questions and answers were addressed by MCA on April 21, 2026, providing contractors with necessary technical guidance for bid preparation and project execution.
