About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document for an Illinois Secretary of State invitation for bids regarding the installation of a new boiler at the Chicago West facility located at 5301 W. Lexington Street, Chicago, Illinois 60644. The document addresses clarifications sought by potential bidders concerning technical specifications and installation requirements outlined in the project drawings and manufacturer specifications.

The primary technical issues raised involve two key concerns: First, a reference to note #4 on drawing M2.01L regarding the connection of new boiler exhaust to existing ductwork was clarified as not applicable, as the drawing contains only three notes. Second, a material compatibility issue was identified regarding the Aerco boilers' installation manual requirements for venting materials (PVC, CPVC, Polypropylene, or AL-29-4C) versus the existing ductwork composition. The response confirms that bidders must install a new 12-inch stainless steel category 4 vent system running from the boiler upward through the existing chimney shaft, establishing the acceptable solution for the boiler venting system despite the apparent discrepancy between manufacturer specifications and existing infrastructure materials.

Questions & Answers Set #2

1. Drawing M2.01L shows us tying the new exhaust from the boilers into the existing duct. This connection tells us to see note #4. Can you please provide note #4 as the notes on this drawing only go to #3.

Response: there is no note #4 involved on this drawings.

2. The Aerco boilers IOM call for PVC, CPVC, Polypropylene, or AL-29-4C venting. The drawings call for the boiler vents to tie into the existing. The existing does not appear to be one of the acceptable materials listed for these boilers. Are any of the materials listed for venting by Aerco acceptable? Can you please confirm that we are to tie the new exhaust into the existing?

The new 12inch Stainless Steel category 4 vent needs to be installed from the boiler up through the exiting chimney shaft.
