About this file

This is a Questions and Answers document from the State of Michigan Department of Natural Resources related to Request for Proposal No. 180000001116 for the supply of bundled, bulk, or artificial firewood for resale at state campgrounds and recreation areas. The RFP covers multiple state park locations organized into regional groups, with proposals due on March 9, 2018. Bidders are required to submit palletized firewood, with park staff responsible for unloading and stacking. The minimum bundle size is 3/4 cubic foot, consistent with industry standards, though vendors may propose alternate sizes. Bidders may also propose alternative products such as vending machines, though proposals must adhere to the specifications outlined in the RFP. The document clarifies that certain locations previously operated under concession contracts are now being rebid as separate firewood vendor opportunities, and the state will determine the optimal solution for each location after reviewing proposals. Bidders are directed to review the Location Specification Sheet for each park's specific delivery requirements rather than conducting independent site visits.

Ash wood remains prohibited in all bundles, including heat-treated variants, due to the ongoing MDARD Emerald Ash Borer quarantine. There are no maximum bundle quantities per delivery, and all required bidding documents must be submitted through the SIGMA procurement system rather than via email. Interested vendors should allow 2-3 business days for responses from the SIGMA Help Desk and should reference the bid number and closing date when submitting inquiries. Previous bid information from similar contracts is available through the buy4michigan.com website. The RFP solicitation instructions contain the complete proposal timeline and due date information.
