The course comprises 80.5 class hours, 70.5 lab hours, and 18.75 testing hours, totaling 110.5 periods of instruction delivered at CENSECFOR Learning Site Gulfport in Mississippi. The course serves Navy Expeditionary Combat Command (NECC) and Naval Special Warfare (NSW) personnel in pay grades E-1 to O-6, with a maximum class capacity of 67 students and minimum of 24, generating an average on-board population of 229 students annually across 48 planned convenings.

The ECS curriculum covers nine instructional modules: Expeditionary Warfare organization, Chemical-Biological-Radiological-Nuclear (CBRN) protection, Small Arms training (M18 Service Pistol and M4A1 carbine with live-fire qualification requirements), Combat Lifesaver/Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) Tier 2 with five days of scenario-based training, Land Navigation using lensatic compass and military grid references including day and night exercises, Basic Tactical Radiotelephone Procedures covering SALUTE reports and MEDEVAC procedures, Convoy Operations for both mounted and dismounted scenarios, Counter-Improvised Explosive Device (C-IED) recognition and reaction procedures, and Judgment-based Engagement Training and Tactics (JETT) covering use-of-force decision-making and combat mindset principles. Trainees must successfully qualify on both the M18 pistol and M4A1 rifle per OPNAVINST 3591.1G to receive a Certificate of Completion; unsuccessful qualification results in a Certificate of Attendance. The course requires completion of a High-Risk Student Medical Screening Form within 45 days prior to attendance, current Physical Fitness Assessment passage, and DD Form 2760 firearms qualification certification. Resource requirements include weapons ranges, outdoor training areas, barracks and galley facilities accommodating both genders, combat trauma mannequins, Small Arms Weapons Simulator (SAWS) equipment, FATS training systems, and comprehensive medical supplies including tourniquets, chest seals, airway management devices, and tactical trauma response materials.
