The bid price for this item shall include, but not be limited to the necessary manpower, equipment and materials needed to furnish and install #57 bedding stone with non-woven geotextile filter fabric underlay in a 12-inch depth concrete grade beam, as indicated on the construction plans.

The CONTRACTOR shall provide clean, durable limestone or quarry run stone meeting the requirements of Florida Department of Transportation Standard Specifications for Road and Bridge Construction (Latest Edition). Placement of stone shall in accordance with FDOT Standard Specifications. The CONTRACTOR shall submit shop drawings, sieve analysis and technical specification sheets for all materials to the ENGINEER for approval prior to ordering materials. Any material placed without this approval shall be removed and replaced by the CONTRACTOR at no additional cost to the CITY.

The bedding stone material shall be reasonably free of fines and be a well-graded mixture of stone sizes with stone diameters meeting the requirements for #57 stone as given in the FDOT Standard Specifications. Rock shall be washed prior to delivery to the project site and shall be free of sand, dirt, and debris; a maximum of 5% fines by weight shall be permitted. All precautions must be taken to keep rock clean upon delivery to the project site.

At the pre-construction conference, the CONTRACTOR shall submit a letter designating all sources for the rock to be provided for the project. Each source must provide certified testing data, dated within the last two (2) years, for the rock, indicating its adherence to the requirements listed below. This testing data must be submitted to the ENGINEER for approval prior to ordering or taking delivery of any rock.

• Unit Weight: 150 pounds per cubic foot for limestone (162 pounds per cubic foot for granite) per ASTM C 127.

• Absorption: Less Than 5% per ASTM C 127.

• Sulfate Soundness: Less than 12% loss 5 cycles per ASTMC 88.

• LA Abrasion: Less than 45 percent loss at 1000 rev. per ASTM C 535.

If for any reason the CONTRACTOR elects to acquire rock from another source, the ENGINEER must approve of the new source prior to the CONTRACTOR ordering or taking delivery of any rock. The quarry identified as the new rock source shall submit the same testing data as that required from the original source(s).

Acceptance of a source for rock does not constitute “blanket” acceptance of all rock material originating from that source. The CITY and the ENGINEER reserve the right to require testing of any batch of rock delivered to the site to determine if the rock meets project specifications. Such testing, if requested, will be carried out by an FDOT-certified materials testing laboratory. Any products or materials manufactured, purchased or installed prior to shop drawing approval will need to be replaced at the CONTRACTOR’S expense if the corresponding materials are not approved by the ENGINEER.

Filter fabric must be non-woven geotextile, as indicated in the construction plans, meeting the requirements shown on the details in the plans, and should overlap a minimum of 24- inches where separate pieces come together. Filter fabric shall wrap beneath and around the bedding stone layer to a point sufficient to provide a minimum of five (2) feet of toe-in from the outer rock face on all sides of the finished rock revetment structure. The cost of the installed filter fabric shall be factored into the unit cost for the bedding stone.

The basis of payment of Bedding Stone No.57 is TONS.

Item 18 Structural Fill:

manpower, equipment, materials and hardware needed to import, place, compact and work to final grade structural fill, as noted on the plans. Structural fill shall be placed within the proposed grade beam and compact to achieve final design grades as indicated.

Under this item, the CONTRACTOR is responsible for providing clean structural fill meeting the requirements of Group A3 per AASHTO M 145. The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for maintaining truck tickets tracking the volume of structural fill delivered to the site. No payment will be made for imported fill without proof of quantity of structural fill delivered to the site.

The fill tickets must include the following information:

• Address where truck was loaded.

• Address where fill was delivered.

• Truck number and volume capacity.

• Time and date of arrival.

• Fill quantity (weight) in load.

• Signature of contractor’s representative responsible for accepting delivery.

Fill tickets shall be submitted with all pay applications on which payment for this item is requested. The quantity of fill for which payment is being requested must match the total quantity of fill listed on the submitted fill tickets.

The CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for providing sieve analysis and compaction testing (per AASHTO T-180) for all imported fill material. Imported fill shall be placed in 6-inch lifts, and compacted to 98% modified proctor. All required geotechnical testing and compaction testing results shall be submitted to the ENGINEER for approval. No payment shall be made for any structural fill material delivered or placed without this approval. CONTRACTOR shall be responsible for all costs associated with replacement of proper fill material.

The basis of payment for Structural Fill shall be per CUBIC YARD of fill delivered to the site, based on truck ticket volumes.
