About this file
This is a specifications document for construction and renovation work at the Robert J. Dole VA Medical Center. The project involves converting approximately 1,100 square feet of existing space in Building 5 and/or 5B into a same-day access mental health clinic compliant with VHA Directive 1231(2) and VHA Handbook 1160.1. The scope of work includes selective demolition of existing interior partitions, ceilings, and finishes; installation of new interior finishes such as flooring, wall finishes, ceilings, trim, and casework; and implementation of therapeutic design features including calm color schemes, anchored artwork, and secure hardware. The project requires achieving a minimum STC-45 acoustic rating for exam room partitions and includes installation of new wall-mounted lavatories in each exam room with new domestic hot and cold water routing from adjacent restrooms and trenching new water lines across the corridor to existing tie-in points.
The specifications detail mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work including rebalancing and modifying HVAC systems while reusing the existing rooftop air handling unit, relocating or adding diffusers and grilles with ligature-resistant diffusers in exam rooms, and providing new electrical receptacles and data outlets. The final layout will consist of four exam rooms, a combined waiting and reception area, a relocated police office, and associated support spaces. All work must be executed in compliance with complete bidding documents including contract drawings, specifications, and design narratives while maintaining continuous operations of adjacent VA clinical functions and medical center functionality throughout construction. The general contractor must furnish all labor, supervision, materials, tools, and equipment necessary to complete the renovation.
