About this file

The document is a Quote/Bid/Cost Item Descriptions file from Charles County, Maryland, detailing meal procurement for senior centers. The county is seeking proposals for congregate meals to be served at four senior centers in Waldorf, La Plata, Indian Head, and Nanjemoy. The contract includes standard daily meals (Item A1) and special event meals (Item C1), with an estimated four special events per year and approximately 400 meals per event. Meal specifications require adherence to USDA standards, including 3 ounces of protein, 3 servings of fruits and vegetables, 1 serving of milk, whole grains three times per week, and legumes once per week. The delivery component (Item C2) involves transporting meals to the four senior centers while maintaining hot food temperatures, with temperature checks conducted by senior center staff.

The pricing structure is based on fixed costs per meal, with actual meal quantities to be adjusted daily. The meals must meet comprehensive nutritional guidelines, providing a minimum of one-third of the Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) as established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Academy of Sciences/National Research Council. The proposal emphasizes meal quality, requiring meals to be wholesome, suitable for human consumption, and compliant with federal, state, and local food procurement, storage, production, handling, and delivery standards. The contract aims to provide nutritious lunch options for senior citizens across Charles County, with a focus on meeting diverse dietary and health requirements.
