QUESTION GOVERNMENT RESPONSE

1 1502000, Spec Item 3.4.1

1502000, Spec Item 3.4.1 states “The Contractor shall service designated exhaust hoods and ducts and associated equipment to ensure they are clean and sanitary.

Is contractor expected to clean entire length of the duct line to include horizonal, vertical, spiral, flexible, dampers, in-line fans, etc. that may be connected to each kitchen hood duct or system? If so, many duct systems come in different shape and forms, and they could be in locations that are very difficult to reach with construction items such as cables, conduits, steel bars, plumbing, insulations etc. that could cause concern for safety.

Yes, Contractor shall comply with National Board of Fire and Underwriteres and current standards of the National Fire Protection Association, NFPA Standard 96, Charter 8, 8-3 throught 8-4 Safety plan and implementation shall be applied and monitored by the SSHO.

2 1502000, Spec Item 4.1

1502000, Spec Item 4.1 states “The contractor shall install an inspection hatch to exhaust duct to enable maintenance, cleaning, and inspection work.”

Can Government provide mechanical drawing of existing duct work for each facility to facilitate location of hatch that are to be installed?

3 1502000, Spec Item 4.1

1502000, Spec Item 4.1 states “The contractor shall install an inspection hatch to exhaust duct to enable maintenance, cleaning, and inspection work.”

If requirement is to install inspection hatches, and location of inspection hatches are found difficult to install due to building structure, design or layout of ductwork or space, is contractor still responsible, and will contractor required to modify or alter existing duct work to adequately gain access for cleaning/inspecting. Also, as above ceiling space are not normally designed for such work, safety will be an important factor in such work conditions and added fall protection and equipment would have to be in place or installed. This will all have to be considered and added to our burden cost for each facility and will require and allow contractor ample time for work, equipment and resources to meet this requirement.

Spec Item 4.0 and 4.1 are Non-Recurring work. All work related to these Spec Item requirement will be in accordance with the "Non-Recurring Work Contract Line Item Quantities and will be negotiated at the task order level by the KO.

4 1502000, Spec Item 4.1

1502000, Spec Item 4.1 states “The contractor shall install an inspection hatch to exhaust duct to enable maintenance, cleaning, and inspection work.”

With regard to installation requirement and possibly needing to have considerable time for installation and preparation of hatches, can the facility provide ample time to meet this requirement. Or would this be considered to be done outside normal business hour for the particular facility?

Spec Item 4.0 and 4.1 are Non-Recurring work. All work related to these Spec Item requirement will be in accordance with the "Non-Recurring Work Contract Line Item Quantities and will be negotiated at the task order level by the KO.
