W2 Anchor windlass shaft bushing replacement

1.0 ABSTRACT:

1.1 This item describes providing support to remove the W2 anchor/mooring combination winch shaft and replacing the shaft bushing.

2.0 REFERENCES/ENCLOSURES:

3.0 ITEM LOCATION AND DESCRIPTION:

3.1 Locations/Quantity

3.1.1 Location:

-PORT, Bow 1-10-0

3.1.2 Quantity: 1 ea. combination anchor/mooring winch

3.1.3 Quantities given in the List of Materials are considered estimates. The Contractor shall provide these quantities and reasonable additional material in order to install a fully functional system that meets the requirements of this specification.

3.1.4 Bill of Materials, Contractor Furnished:

3.1.4.1 1 ea., drum shaft bushing, P/N:03-126121/0

3.1.5 Additional material/components necessary to accomplish work required by this work item, such as hangers, weld material, etc. are not included below, and shall be provided by the Contractor.

3.2 Item Description/Manufacturer’s Data:

3.2.1 Kocks Bremen Anchor-Mooring Windlass, Model 03-136.184/0

4.0 GOVERNMENT FURNISHED EQUIPMENT/MATERIALS/SERVICES: None

5.0 NOTES:

5.1 The contractor and subcontractors must consult Military Sealift Command’s General Technical Requirements, (GTR’s), to determine applicability to this work item. The contractor and all subcontractors must comply with all applicable GTR requirements.

5.2 The contractor and subcontractors shall review other work items under this contract, to determine their effect on the work required by this item. Based on this review the contractor shall plan and schedule work to minimize conflicts between work items.

5.3 This ship contains High Voltage (HV) electrical systems. The contractor and subcontractors shall obey all posted and verbal instructions regarding safety and exclusion from High Voltage areas. At no time shall a contractor or subcontractor approach, work on, or enter a High Voltage area with out proper authorization.

5.4 THE USNS MEDGAR EVERS ELECTRICAL COLOR CODING DOES NOT FOLLOW CONSISTENT COLOR SCHEME. THE SHIP IS KNOWN TO HAVE CURRENT CARRYING CONDUCTORS COLORED GREEN, BLUE, BLACK AND WHITE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL ASSUME ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES ARE HOT UNTIL TESTED OTHERWISE. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TEST ALL ELECTRICAL CABLES TO ENSURE THEY ARE DEAD PRIOR TO WORKING ON THE ITEM.

5.5 The definitions of many terms used in this work item are found in Work Item 001.

6.0 QUALITY ASSURANCE REQUIREMENTS: None additional

7.0 STATEMENT OF WORK REQUIRED:

7.1 Provide the services of a Kocks Bremen OEM representative to assist in the replacement of the shaft bushing, and oversight of work described in this specification.

7.1.1 Technical representative to provide new drum shaft bushing listed in Para 3.1.4

7.1.2 Shipyard to provide all rigging and crane services to temporarily move anchor windlass/reduction gear/mooring drum assembly shaft to access wildcat shaft bushing for repair.

7.1.3 Shipyard to remove and reinstall anchor chain to provide access for rigging. Anchor chain may be rigged up out of the way in lieu of removal if possible.

7.2 Removals:

7.2.1 Assist ship’s force with locking out and electrically tagging out W2 windlass.

7.2.2 Shipyard to unbolt mooring winch and reduction gear foundation bolts.

7.2.3 Remove gypsy winch drum. Drum weighs approximately 800 lbs. Use Ref 2.2 as guidance.

7.2.4 Remove wildcat pillow blocks.

7.2.5 Rig entire mooring winch drum, reduction gear, e-motor, and drum shaft pinion assembly off the vessel. Assembly weighs approximately 8000 lbs.

7.2.6 Remove existing shaft bushing (1) and wildcat pinion gear.

7.3 Clean and polish the shaft where the existing shaft bushing was installed.

7.4 Clean ID of wildcat pinion.

7.5 Machine and match the new shaft bushing OD to the pinion ID and recommended tolerance, per manufacturer’s and OEM’s guidance.

7.6 Installations:

7.6.1 Install new shaft bushing (CFM) under the guidance of the OEM representative.

7.6.2 Rig entire assembly back onto the vessel. Install under guidance of OEM.

7.6.3 Fasten mooring winch, e-motor, and reduction gear foundations.

7.6.4 Reinstall gypsy head on the drum shaft.

7.7 Electrical:

7.7.1 Electrically disconnect and reconnect mooring winch motor. This is required to rig windlass assemble.

7.8 Preparation of Drawings/Documents: None

7.9 Testing/Inspection:

7.9.1 Shipboard Testing: Perform operational in accordance with tech rep recommendations. Tech rep shall witness testing.

7.10 Painting/Insulation:

7.10.1 Clean and prepare the disturbed areas and apply a primer and two topcoats of paint to all areas disturbed to match the surrounding areas.

7.11 Markings
