5.4.3 Operations and Maintenance 2017-03-14
Government-Furnished Information (GFI) Manned Flight Simulator (MFS) Laboratory Operations Attachment (12)
Annual lab usage is anticipated to be approximately 5,000 customer simulation flight hours and 5,000 development flight hours. After system configuration and startup, lab operations support is required during simulation operation approximately 5-15% of the time, including support for tours. MFS laboratory infrastructure currently includes:
· 8 laboratory simulation stations:
· 7 of which have out-the-window (OTW) visual display systems (VDS),
· 1 of which is on a 6-DOF motion platform,
· 1 of which has multiple operator stations,
· 8 mobile aircraft cockpits,
· 9 OTW and 2 sensor image generation systems, and
· Avionics racks, support equipment, and simulation systems including audio, video distribution, and shared memory systems.
Lab stations and aircraft cockpits have standard electrical and mechanical interfaces so that the mobile aircraft cockpits (weighing 3000-5000 lbs.) can be moved between lab stations to optimize available resources. Test and development sessions using laboratory resources are scheduled in an online scheduling system. Laboratory operations pre-event support includes movement of the aircraft cockpits to their scheduled location, connection of the cockpits and supporting equipment, configuration and initialization of the image generator, and startup and initialization of laboratory station and simulation system equipment. Simulation event support includes providing technical assistance to project engineers as required to ensure simulation systems are operational and operating simulations for tours and as required for project test events.
