This experience shall be achieved by serving with one or more of the following activities specializing in maintenance and repair of the various Ordnance Equipment for a cumulative total of at least 8 years:

Intermediate Level technical assistance activity, Depot Level repair activity, Training Activity teaching Intermediate or higher Level personnel or Original Equipment Manufacturer’s production facility. Technician shall be proficient with special tooling associated with Intermediate and Depot level repairs and adjustments.

In addition, qualifying persons shall be proficient in performing the adjustments detailed in technical drawings and be familiar with the requirements of Factory Acceptance Testing Ordnance Documents.

2. Field Service Engineer/Technician – KEY PERSONNEL

Field Service Technicians participating in the GWSRP Refurbishment or Repair shall have a minimum of 3 years experience with disassembly, repair, assembly, adjustment and testing of Ordnance Equipment and Components. This experience shall be achieved by serving with one or more of the following activities specializing in maintenance and repair of various Ordnance Equipment for a cumulative of 3 years:

Intermediate Level technical assistance activity, Depot Level repair activity, Training Activity Teaching Organizational, Intermediate or higher level personnel or Original Equipment Manufacturer’s production facility. The cumulative total experience requirement may also be achieved by serving as a shipboard or shore technician having a minimum of 3 years experience at the minimum rank of Petty Officer 1st Class Gunner’s Mate or equivalent specializing in maintenance and repair of various Ordnance Equipment.

The Technician shall be proficient with special tooling associated with Organizational and Intermediate Level repairs and maintenance of various Ordnance Equipment.

3. Ordnance Technician

Ordnance Technicians participating in the refurbishment or repair of GWSRP Ordnance Equipment shall have a working mechanical knowledge of various Gun Weapon Systems and Components. In addition, the technician will be required to determine the nature and extent of required repairs and isolate equipment malfunctions by making preliminary functional tests with a variety of standard and special purpose test equipment, holding fixtures, and precision measurement devices. Technicians may be required to disassemble weapons into major sections, assemblies, sub-assemblies and components. The technicians will be required to perform repairs which are often complicated by critical tolerances and surfaces which require skilled workmanship in the machine and hand finishing and assembly of replacement parts. The technicians are required to use a variety of hand and powered tools and precision measurement equipment to identify specific tolerances and reference points, and maintain dimensional accuracy. The work also requires the application of equipment modifications in accordance with detailed instructions. The technician must assemble repaired items and equipment and set up test configurations in accordance with appropriate specifications and instructions. Technicians will perform functional, operational, acceptance tests; evaluate performance characteristics; and compare test result with established parameters to determine the structural and functional integrity of repaired and rebuilt equipment when directed. The technicians are required to use a variety of reference materials and apply a broad knowledge of operating principles while working with blueprints, diagrams, trade tools, and test equipment. The technicians are required to work with a variety of equipment specifications, test procedures and other technical directives and within the framework of acceptable trade practices.

4. Machinist

Machinists performing machining work at the Contractor’s facility shall be proficient in operation of lathes and milling machines and capable of dimensional inspection of machined parts. The machinists are required to have skills in performing the full range of machining operations on most types of conventional or CNC machine tools and their various attachments. They shall have knowledge of various metals and other materials such as aluminum, brass, bronze, high carbon and alloy steels, chrome, nickel, titanium, molybdenum, super alloys, nylon, rubber, plastics, Teflon, etc. to produce the desired cuts and finishes on each material. They are required to have skills to plan and lay out work from blueprints, work sheets, and drawings that may have missing or incorrect information. Machinists are required to have skills in determining work procedures, machine, tools, equipment, and attachments to be used; proper type and size of raw stock; sequence of machining operations, and the speeds and feeds necessary to attain the required finishes and tolerances. On CNC machines, they are required to have the skills to setup and operate a variety of machine tools and to debug programs developed by higher grade workers to perform machining operations involving Level 1 complexity. They are required to have knowledge of a variety of machine controls and have the skills in making necessary manual inputs to ensure accurate dimensional tolerances. They are required to have knowledge of trade mathematics including plane geometry and the use of trigonometric functions and machinist handbook formulas in establishing needed dimensions, such as those required for chasing threads or machining angular surfaces; locating and marking surfaces and angles to facilitate accurate job setups on a variety of conventional or CNC machine tools. They are required to have the skills in manufacturing an entire item, carrying out all the machining operations necessary for completion, and performing precision handwork such as filing, scraping and lapping to fit, assemble and finish machined parts. They are required to have skills in using many types of precision instruments and equipment such as vernier calipers, height gages, squares, protractors, inside, outside and depth micrometers, surface gages, V-blocks, parallel bars, gage blocks, dial indicators, optical and mechanical comparators, and gono-go thread, ring, bore and plug gages to attain accurate dimensions and maintain tolerances.

5. Electrician/Electrical Engineer/Electrical or Electronics Technician

Electrician/Electrical Engineer/Electrical or Electronics Technicians participating in the refurbishment or repair of GWSRP Ordnance Equipment shall have a working electrical knowledge of various Gun Weapon Systems and Components.
