Recovery Plan
1. This Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) establishes the requirements for the Presidential Helicopter Support Facility (PHSF) Severe Weather Procedure and replaces the SOP dated June 17, 2015.
2. This procedure applies to all personnel assigned to, or temporarily working at, the PHSF Patuxent River (PAX).
3. Discussion.
a. Thunderstorms, tornadoes, gales, and hurricanes are capable of causing injury and destruction to personnel, facilities, aircraft, and equipment. Rocks, lumber, fire bottles, and debris may be picked up by winds and hurled with deadly force. Hail stones of large proportions associated with severe thunderstorms may severely damage aircraft. Lightning strikes pose unique hazards, particularly during aircraft refueling operations. Timely warnings and precautionary measures should help to prevent losses and reduce damage. Enclosure (1) delineates procedures to be followed in the event of a thunderstorm, tornado, or destructive wind event.
b. References (a) through (c) define applicable terms, establish conditions of readiness, and provide general guidance.
Subj: PHSF PATUXENT RIVER SOP 9 - SEVERE WEATHER PROCEDURE, REVISION 2
