Adequate and continuous ventilation shall be provided to ensure proper drying, setting, or curing of the taping and finishing compounds.
2.2.5 TAPING AND FINISHING: The contractor shall tape and finish gypsum wallboard using industry standards, overall applying 3 coats with tools of sufficient width to extend beyond the joint center ensuring a smooth level plane of surface upon completion without dents, or gouges. Fastener heads should also have three successive coats of joint sealing compound each applied in a different direction. Backfill all cut-outs with compound used for taping or finishing so that there is no opening larger than 1/4 inch between the gypsum board and a fixture or receptor. Finish the corner bead with successive coats of joint treatment compound as recommended by the compound manufacturer, so as to make the corner bead flush with the board surface.
2.2.6 SEALING OF NEW GYPSUM BOARD SURFACES: After the taping, finishing and dust removal procedures are complete new gypsum board shall have a full coat of gypsum wallboard primer (Master Painters Institute ref: #50) applied to entire area as specified in the Painting Schedule.

2.4.4 SURFACE PREPARATION: Surfaces shall be clean, dry to the touch, and free from frost, moisture, grease, oil, wax, lacquer, paint, or other foreign matter that would destroy or impair adhesion.
Where adequate grooves have not been provided, contractor shall clean out grooves in accordance with the manufacturer’s recommendations. No grinding shall be required on metal surfaces.
• Steel Surfaces: Remove loose mill scale by sandblasting or, if sandblasting is impractical or would damage finish work, scraping and wire brushing shall be required. Remove protective coatings by sandblasting or using a solvent that leaves no residue.
• Aluminum or Bronze Surfaces: Remove temporary protective coatings from surfaces that shall be in contact with sealant. When masking tape is used as a protective coating, remove tape and any residual adhesive just prior to sealant application. Use non-staining solvents recommended by the item manufacturer.
