Niagara Falls ARS, New York Question Set 9 27 Jun 2024
Question/Answer Response:
1. The rails for the existing GFE mobile storage system(System 2) are imbedded in the concrete and anchored to footers that are 6” below the slab. Further the rails have a “buildup” that extends approximately 12” either side of each rail creating a “bump” as the GFE fork trucks move across each rail. Existing GFE rails were designed for use with the current electric mobile aisle system that is to be removed per the Cover Purchase Description and are not compatible with the system as specified in Appendix B due to the size of the wheels and corresponding rails. In order to meet the requirements of Appendix B, 3.27 the following work needs to be completed.
The area between the existing rails should be backfilled with concrete to a height of 2.5” to 3” LOWER than the height of the top of the existing rails.
Once that hardens, new rails would be installed as required by the size of system. These rails would be leveled to match the height of the top of the existing GFE rails.
When the rail is installed and levelness confirmed, a second pour of concrete would be required to make the top of the rail flush with the now finished floor.
The above represents standard commercial practice for this type of project. Please confirm this is acceptable.
The process as described above would be acceptable for installation of new rails for the mobile storage system.
2. 3.2.7 requires rails be no more than seven feet apart AND rails below each upright. Drawing VNF904- 01 shows rails below each upright. To meet the 7’ requirement another four rails would need to be added to the system which is unnecessary given the capacity requirements for Pallet Rack D and F and the requirements for 3.2.2 Carriages which calls for weight to be 1,000 lbs. per carriage foot. Standard commercial practice for this weight requirement is for rails to be placed below each upright. Please confirm that the configuration as illustrated in VNF904-01 is acceptable.
Yes, the configuration as illustrated in VNF904-01 is acceptable.
3. Drawing VNF904-02, Type A and Type B Mobile Aisle Rack shows the rack on a carriage. Standard commercial practice is for these racks be anchored to the slab as specified in Appendix A, 3.2.5 for Types G and J. Please confirm this is acceptable.
Yes, Type A and Type B mobile aisle rack may be anchored to the slab.
4. Please confirm that a dumpster can be placed adjacent to the building for removal and disposal of the existing equipment as required in Appendix G, 3.1.1.1
Yes, dumpsters can be placed adjacent to the building for removal and disposal of existing equipment.
