About this file
This document contains questions and answers related to a solicitation for a robotic shot peen system. The solicitation seeks to acquire a system with the capacity to shot peen steel shot sizes 280 and 550 using a robotic arm within an internal area of minimum dimensions 5 feet by 8 feet by 10 feet. The system shall be installed at Building 142 in support of 402 CMXG/MXDEE. Questions cover requests for part drawings, intensity requirements, smallest bore size needing lancing, part holding fixture details, solid models of parts, safety classification needs, ability to take exceptions, utility connection locations, dust analysis information, prior machine details, installation responsibilities, and base access requirements including criminal background checks.

Questions and Answers for
RFQ FA857121Q0034
27 May 2021
1. Can you send us prints for the parts being processed in the machine?
Prints will not be provided pre-award. C17 slat tracks come in different sizes. Design for max length of 4.5 feet. They also have a slight curvature. See pictures provided. C130 propellers are roughly a max of 6.5 feet long and approximately 22 inches wide. C130 propellers are approx. 125 lbs.
0. Will need this to quote tooling/fixtures.
0. Optimize machine design.
0. What Almen intensity ranges are required?
We will need variable media flow rates and psi levels to calibrate intensities ourselves. Coverage can vary from 100% to 200%, but we should be able to modify the coverage.
1. What is the smallest bore size diameter that will require lance peening?
Currently, a lance is inserted into the taper bore as far as possible (with clearance standoff). Then it rotates and backs out of the bore slowly. The bore tapers to a point and is approximately 15 inches deep.
1. 3.1.6.7 There shall be a part holding station/fixture for holding the C-130 propellers butt face tight to the outside of the cabinet. Need more information on this requirement.
The taper bore lance operation will be performed with the blade firmly clamped to the outside of the booth. Then lance peening will occur from within the inside of the booth by inserting the lance into the blade bore.
1. We request solid models of the part in order to utilize Fanuc simulation. (per RFQ)
1. Does the robot and turntable have to be Class 2 Division 1? Is dust explosive?
PD 3.1.2.7 specifies Class 2 Division 1
1. If our company cannot comply certain requests, can we take exception?
1. Will WRA be hooking up the power and air? If not how close will the services be?
SEE PD 6.1
1. Can we see report on dust? If the dust contains aluminum and or has fire / explosion potential, the dust collection system will need to be designed accordingly.
No PD requirements for explosion potential of dust collection system.
1. Is this a used machine that is being moved from another location to this location SEE PD 2. Design for questions 9 - 18
1. How was machine taken apart
1. What condition is the machine in
1. Who is the mfg of the machine
1. Will we install robot
1. Will we wire the machine
1. Is the machine onsite in Warner Robbins now
1. I would like to see pictures of machine
1. I will need to look at where we will be installing machine
1. Will machine be already off loaded and set cloase to where it will be installed
1. Any special requirements to work on base ( we work on a lot of military bases but seems that all of them have different requirements) Criminal background check required for base access
