Hazardous environment protection. The shelter shall accommodate specific ballistic splinter protection kits to protect occupants/contents against small arms and small fragmenting munitions as defined in National Institute of Justice (NIJ) Guide 0101.06, Type IIA. This protection kit shall provide complete surround and overhead protection and be emplaced within one hour by two persons
Is the splinter kit to be included in our offering? If not, will the splinter kit be part of the pre-production testing?
This requirement is included to notify the manufacture to design provisions into the shelter to allow "future" kits to be used if required. The material to provide this protection is commercially available in sheets as well as preformed panels to fit certain applications (such as car door panels). There are certain considerations that need to be addressed in the design, i.e. additional weight, attachment methods.
There is no immediate requirement for a protection kit at this time. It is not required for a protection kit to be supplied with the initial offering.
No protection kit will be required for any of the first article testing.
The government’s specification shall take precedence/priority over any questions/answers response in the event there is a conflict between the former and latter.
