| 61. Q | Everything in I have read makes me believe the duration for CS-5 is 259 days. However in the paragraph on the bid form under ITEM NO 0001 is states the period of construction for CS-5 is from Jan 1st to June 15th which is about 166-days. That is why I think people are still asking the question even though I think we all know the 259-days is only for CS-5. |
| A | ITEM NO 0001 date reflects the actual construction period in Vandenberg Hall, total period of performance for Base CLIN is 259 |
| 62. Q | Is the use of an exterior material lift acceptable on this project if confined within the work zone per each construction sequence? |
| A | Any and all equipment proposed for use needs to meet the requirements noted in Construction Documents, drawing Sheet S0.X.01 – Glazing Zones and Construction Sequence Map. |
| 63. Q | Where can we find the specifications for the phone/data backbone cabling? |
| A | Please refer to Division 27 – Communications. |
| 64. Q | What is the purpose of the USAFA Net room and how does it differ from the phone rooms? |
| A | USAFA Net Rooms have been used in the past for Communications Gathering, where relay stations occur or additional hardware is housed. Phone rooms is old nomenclature that describes the use of these rooms to have a public phone with a chair for Cadet Use. These are phone rooms are no longer used for this purpose, however, the room names remain. |
| 65. Q | Does the cabling from the first and second floor go up to the third floor and the cabling for the fourth floor go to the fifth floor? |
| A | All the Communications cabling convene on the Third Floor. This is where the main Comm Rooms will be. |
| 66. Q | Are the feeds for the riser going through the duct room? |
| A | Existing feeds are difficult to locate until demolition begins. For future, proposed risers, coordination between all trades is a must to prioritize what goes into the duct rooms. In previous Construction Sequences, we have used duct rooms to connect floors. |
| 67. Q | On the demolition floor plans, demolition key note 1 gives instruction to “Remove existing ceramic floor tile and mortar bed down to existing structural slab”. However, the thicknesses of the mortar beds are not shown on the plans. For pricing of demolition and replacement of mortar bed in these areas, can we assume the thickness to be 4” or less throughout? |
| A | The thickness in this building component varies as it is sloped to drains. For Bidding Purposes, assume a 4” thickness throughout. |
| 68. Q | Are the boot racks in the cadet rooms to be removed, refurbished, and re-installed or should these items be replaced with new boot racks. |
| A | Existing boot racks shall be removed, refurbished and reinstalled. |
| 69. Q | Are the door pulls, legs, and towel racks on the cadet vanities to be removed, refurbished, and reinstalled on the new vanities or should these items be replaced with new? |
| A | All pulls in cadet vanities shall be new. Existing pulls shall be salvaged and re-used for cadet millwork. Legs and towel racks shall be removed, refurbished and reinstalled on new vanities. |
| 70. Q | There is not enough information on the drawings or in the specifications to determine the quantities of asbestos insulation on the project. For bidding purposes, are we to assume that all pipe and duct insulation contains asbestos and should be abated? There is no indication of location or quantities of mechanical or plumbing systems that have asbestos-containing material (ACM). For bidding purposes, are we to assume that all mechanical and plumbing systems that are to be removed have ACM and need to be abated as stated in Note 6 on Drawing G1.0.02? There is no indication of location or quantities of exterior sealants (i.e., window caulking and column cover caulking) that have ACM. For bidding purposes, are we to assume that all exterior sealants that are to be removed contain asbestos and need to be abated |
| A | Please refer to Specification Section 013500 – Overarching Environmental Specifications, Appendix ‘A’ CS2, and Appendix ‘B’ CS5 & CS 6. For bidding purposes, assume that what was found in CS 2 (Appendix ‘A’) will be found in CS 5 and CS 6. |
| Please refer to Sheet G1.0.02, Hazardous Materials Notes. |
| 71. Q | Key note 11 on A1.4.00 states that contractor is responsible to replace existing pavers that are damaged. Can the Government quantify the number that are damaged, or should the contractor bid a zero dollar lump sum to replace the damaged pavers and supply a unit price to replace these existing damaged pavers? |
| A | For bidding purposes there shall be no damaged pavers. The intent of this note is to ensure that at project completion, none of the pavers are damaged. |
72. Q All previous phases replaced all of the plastic laminate heater cover panels on all floors in all locations. Please verify all plastic laminate panels are to be removed and replaced? Are the convector covers to be refurbished? If so, please advise on the method and finish for these items.
| A | Please replace all plastic laminate heater cover panels on all floors at all locations to match previous Construction Sequences. Please refer to Specification Section 064023 – Interior Architectural Woodwork for laminates. |
| 73. Q | On the electrical demolition drawings it shows a single Occupancy sensor “to remain” In all the cadet rooms. On the electrical lighting sheets it shows a 2 gang occupancy sensor with A&B switching, but it is shown in light line weight which means existing. Do we need to supply one new occupancy sensor along with an existing one or are there two existing occupancy sensors? |
| A | For bidding purposes, there shall be one existing occupancy sensor per room. |
| 74. Q | I am under the impression that the C & A carpet specified Infinity No. 05849 with a color 55022 Moonstone is not available through Tandus? |
| A | Lantz-Boggio Architects verified on 08.23.2010 and this particular carpet was available. |
| 75. Q | Are you accepting alternates for the C & A? |
| A | No alternates for C & A will be accepted at this time. |
| 76. Q | Reference Schedule of Work (SOW) #27 on drawing sheet G0.0.01 of both CS-5 & CS-6 drawings, the documents call for a new deck drainage system within construction sequence #3. Is this to be included or was this work completed in CS-3 scope of work and just a left over note? |
| A | This note shall reference CS 5 and CS 6. This is a clerical error. |
| 77. Q | Reference Schedule of Work (SOW) #36 on drawing sheet G0.0.01 of both CS-5 & CS-6 drawings, the documents call for a new chiller, cooling tower and air handling unit for the bookstore. The mechanical drawings do not indicate any of this equipment in the equipment schedule, please clarify what is to be included in the pricing? |
| A | SOW # 36 shall read – NOT USED. This is a clerical error. |
| 78. Q | We would like to submit the attached fixture type “A” as equal substitute. Refer to sheet E7.X.01, Luminaire Schedule, the documents specifically state that the Type “A” fixture cannot be substituted. Based on the attached cut sheet comparison for the “A” type fixture there will not be a noticeable difference in the fixture and the USAFA will not have to stock any extra parts, as the alternate light fixture takes a similar ballast and bulb? |
| A | For bidding purposes, there shall be no substitutions on any of the light fixtures. |
| 79. Q | Refer to Sheet E7.X.01, Luminarie Schedule. For all other fixture types, other than the “A” type fixture, substitutions are allowed. Based on the phasing of this project I understand it is the USAFA’s desire to keep many of the materials used to a “sole source” set up to maintain consistency and ease of maintenance. Can alternate equal light fixtures be considered at bid time if it has the same appearance and the bulbs and ballast are such that they can be used in conjunction with CS-3 thru CS-4 phases? |
| A | For bidding purposes, there shall be no substitutions on any of the light fixtures. |
| 80. Q | In CS- 5 and CS-6 there are some areas that receive fritz flooring and new VCT. There are no specifications for these two items, please provide. |
| A | Please refer to Question 52 and 53, and Specification Section 096519 – Resilient Tile Flooring, Revision 2, dated 08.23.2010. |
