About this file

This document is an Operator's Manual for the 2024 CustomKraft Variable Frequency Drive Series 5 horsepower high-pressure wash equipment, including maintenance information.

The manual is designed for trained and authorized personnel only and emphasizes safety as the priority. It contains comprehensive safety guidelines covering work area safety, hazard classifications, and pre-operation inspection procedures. Key safety restrictions prohibit operation from ladders or elevated surfaces, use of the equipment when other machinery is running, operation near flammable substances, and crawling under vehicles during use. The manual specifies that only trained maintenance personnel may access internal compartments, with operators limited to pre-operation inspections. Pre-operation inspection requirements include checking for hydraulic oil leaks and proper CAT pump oil levels, inspecting all decals, verifying electrical components and hoses, checking for structural damage or rust, and ensuring all fasteners are present and properly tightened. Operating instructions require operators to grasp the wand firmly before activation and use the rotary switch to select wash functions (tire cleaner/degreaser, high-pressure soap, foam brush, gloss wax, rinse, and spot-free), with products applied at progressively lower pressures after hose purging. The equipment specifications include a Baldor 5 horsepower 3-phase electric motor (Model CEM3615TM or CEM3615T), a CAT PUMPS positive displacement plunger pump (Model 5CP2140W), and requires 208-230 VAC electrical service at 20-60 amperes depending on configuration. Water requirements are 4.0 gallons per minute per unit with warm water not exceeding 110°F. Suggested maintenance includes pre-use hose and nozzle inspections with CAT pump oil checks, and annual pump oil changes annually (or every two years for synthetic oil). The single-unit pump/tank measures 68" wide by 24" deep by 75" tall, while the 3-bay stacked configuration measures 72" wide by 30" deep by 75" tall.

You read, understand and obey employer’s safety rules and worksite regulations.

You read, understand and obey all applicable governmental regulations.

You are properly trained to safely operate the high-pressure wash equipment.

Hazard Classification

Decals on this machine use symbols, color coding and signal words to identify the following:

Intended Use

This high-pressure wash equipment is intended to be used only to wash hard surface appliances and vehicles. Never direct the high-pressure nozzle toward body parts or other personnel.

Safety Sign Maintenance

Replace any missing or damaged safety signs.

Keep operator safety in mind at all times. Use mild soap and water to clean safety signs. Do not use solvent-based cleaners because they may damage the safety sign material.

Work Area Safety

1. Keep in mind the wash area will be wet and periodically slippery.

Use extreme caution while using the high-pressure wash equipment in the hazardous conditions.

2. Keep wash bay clear of trip hazards. Do not operate this high-pressure wash equipment if the bay is littered with small components or debris which may cause trip hazards.

3. Do not use the high-pressure wash equipment from ladders, scaffolding or other elevated surfaces.

4. Do not use the wash equipment when other equipment is running or connected to an electrical power supply.

5. Keep and understand Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) of detergents and conditioners used with the high-pressure wash equipment.

6. Do not operate from another motorized vehicle.

7. Do not crawl under vehicles to wash undercarriages.

8. Do not wash gasoline or other flammable solvents.

Explosion and Fire Hazards

Do not store liquid petroleum gas (LPG), gasoline, diesel fuel or other explosive substances near or inside the equipment room or the wash bay.

Do not spray wash equipment with high-pressure wand.

Damaged Machine Hazards

Do not use a damaged or malfunctioning high-pressure wash equipment.

Conduct a thorough pre-operation inspection of the high-pressure wash equipment and test all functions before each work shift. Immediately tag and remove from service a damaged or malfunctioning components.

Be sure all maintenance has been performed as specified in this manual and the appropriate CustomKraft manual.

Be sure all decals are in place and legible.

Be sure the operator's, safety and responsibilities manuals are complete, legible and with the high-pressure wash equipment.

Bodily Injury Hazard

Improper contact with components under any cover will cause serious injury. Only trained maintenance personnel should access compartments.

Access by the operator is only advised when performing a pre-operation inspection. All compartments must remain closed and secured during operation.

Do Not Operate Unless:

You learn and practice the principles of safe machine operation contained in this manual.

A. Avoid hazardous situations.

B. Always perform a pre-operation inspection. Know and understand the pre-operation inspection before going on to the next section.

C. Always perform function tests prior to use.

D. Inspect the workplace.

E. Only use the machine as it was intended.

Pre-operation Inspection

Fundamentals

It is the responsibility of the operator to perform a pre-operation inspection and routine maintenance.

The pre-operation inspection is a visual inspection performed by the operator prior to each work shift.

The inspection is designed to discover if anything is apparently wrong with the high-pressure wash equipment before the operator performs the function tests.

The pre-operation inspection also serves to determine if routine maintenance procedures are required. Only routine maintenance items specified in this manual may be performed by the operator.

If damage or any unauthorized variation from factory delivered condition is discovered, the high-pressure wash equipment must be tagged and removed from service.

Repairs to the machine may only be made by a qualified service technician, according to the manufacturer’s specifications. After repairs are completed, the operator must perform a pre-operation inspection again before going on to the function tests.

Scheduled maintenance inspections shall be performed by qualified service technicians, according to the manufacturer’s specifications and the requirements.

Pre-operation Inspection

A. Be sure that all decals are legible and in place.

B. Check for hydraulic oil leaks and proper oil level of high-pressure pump. Add oil if needed. (Oil level should be at or slightly above the red dot in the rear of the pump housing). Use only CAT pump oil.

C. Add one squirt of grease into motor bearings every five years.

Grease zerks are located above the bearing on each end of 5 hp motor.

D. Check the following components or areas for damage, improperly installed or missing parts and unauthorized modifications:

1. Electrical components, rotary switch, wiring and electrical cables.

2. Hydraulic and/or high-pressure wash hoses, fittings and manifolds.

3. Nuts, bolts and other fasteners

E. Check high-pressure Wash Equipment for:

1. Cracks in welds or structural components.

2. Dents or damage to machine.

3. Excessive rust, corrosion or oxidation.

4. Be sure that all structural and other critical components are present and all associated fasteners and pins are in place and properly tightened.

5. After you complete your inspection, be sure that all compartment covers are in place and latched.

Operation

A. Grasp the high-pressure wand firmly prior to turning on the high-pressure wash equipment.

B. Turn rotary switch to operate on any of the wash functions, keeping the trigger pulled on the wand to properly purge the system.

a. Typical operation is clockwise starting with Tire Cleaner/Degreaser. This function will initiate with high-pressure, then drop to a pre-set lower pressure for application once the high-pressure hose is purged.

b. High-pressure Soap should be applied beginning at the lower surfaces moving up to insure proper coverage.

c. If Foam Brush is available, use the brush to remove loosened dirt and grease.

d. Gloss Wax is to be applied to speed the removal of Soap and apply a lustrous shine to painted surfaces. Avoid glass and windshields to prevent streaking.

e. Rinse all waxed surfaces and remaining soap residue.

f. Spot-free is also a lower pressure application, but will drop to the pre-set pressure only after the high-pressure delivery hose has been purged.

C. If product does not come out of the spray tip or is spray pattern is misshapen when equipment is operation. Immediately turn off the wash equipment and consult CustomKraft for technical assistance.

Suggested Maintenance
