Questions resulting from the Site Visit conducted on 29 Mar 16

The following questions were submitted as a result of the Site Visit that was conducted on 29 Mar 16. Each question is accompanied by the answer.

Question 1. Can we Direction Bore under roadways, sidewalks, and driveways instead of cutting asphalt?

Answer 1. The contractor is not allowed to bore under roadways, sidewalks or driveways. The contractor is to cut the asphalt or concrete as necessary and install specified duct bank as shown on the drawings. The contractor shall subsequently replace the asphalt or concrete as required according to the drawings and specifications Question 2. The prints call for a 30” steel casing for the “Jack and Bore” with 4-6” conduits inside. Can the contractor adjust the size of the steel sleeve to appropriately fir 4-6” conduits?

Answer 2. The diameter of the steel sleeve is required to remain at 30” as the drawing specifies.

Question 3. Is wet boring acceptable in place of dry “jack and bore”?

Answer 3. The wet boring technique is not acceptable. The only acceptable method is the “Jack and Bore” as identified on the drawings.

Question 4. Where PMH switches are specified, there are some conflicts with the specifications

· The interrupting rating is specified as 25K A1C symmetrical, and PMH is limited to 14K A1C symmetrical at 14.4KV

· Some fuse ratings are shown as ratings above 200A, and PMH fuses are limited to 200A

Answer 4. See specification section 26 13 01 para 2.1 “IEEE C37.74 shall be as manufactured by S&C PME pad mounted switchgear or Federal Pacific PSI/II pad mounted switchgear or approved equal.” The Federal Pacific Type PSI/II pad mounted switchgear provides 25,000 symmetrical rating (40,000 Asymmetrical) with a fuse rating capability greater than 200A.
