Question and Answers 3

1. All existing wiring for the fire alarm is to be removed but can all existing conduit for the fire alarm be reused? Specifications only say fire alarm conduit to be red. I would assume this would be for added conduit? Or is all existing conduit to be removed and replaced with red conduit?

Existing fire alarm conduit shall be reused. Any new conduit and/or fire alarm boxes shall be shall be red.

2. Sheet E1.1 sheet work note 11 says to remove surface mounted raceway and provide new box and conduit concealed in wall. These corridor walls are solid concrete which is why the raceway is surface mounted. Are we to remove the surface mounted drywall and remove concrete as needed? Or are we to reuse the surface mounted raceway?

See detail 5 on A1.4 – Chase detail. There will be new conduit and box as stated in sheet work note. It will be mounted on the C.M.U. wall and furred out.

3. Came across a concern that I have regarding div 27. Spec section 270500-3 paragraph 2.3 is calling out for (3) jacks, (3) blanks & a max series faceplate. Is this intended for each combination voice/data location? It appears that in the units there are (2) existing jacks per plate we could not verify if each unit already has a stub up to accessible ceiling existing or if we will be adding a stub up as detailed on sheet E1.0 to every location. It was also unclear from the spec if I am replacing all of the Cat5e cabling. I understand for the new emergency phone location I would need a new stub up, j-box and cat5e back to room 126. Can you please clarify for me?

Jacks/blanks should be provided as specified. It was our intention for the contractor to re-use the existing data cabling so there would be no stub up required in most instances. The stub up detail on Sheet E1.0 is for any new data drops such as the emergency phone.

Clarification Reference Sheet A7.1;

Corridor Notes:

DELETE the following statement: "Remove existing Tesa locks and return to government. Provide new Tesa locks and install on all doors that currently have Tesa Locks."

Instead, REFERENCE the door hardware schedule located on Drawings Sheet A6.1 – Door, Frame, and Hardware Schedule and corresponding Specification Section 087110.

Question:

Are the signs shown on the ROOM SIGNAGE SCHEDULE on sheet A6.2 new signs? Please CLARIFY if we are supposed to remove and reinstall the existing signs? Or are we supposed to furnish and install new signs? If we are supposed to furnish and install new signs please provide a specification section for the signage.

Answer:

New signage is required-furnish and install. The room signage schedule is on sheet A6.2. The door signage schedule references the UFC 3-120-01 and calls out signage type BB2. Please reference this document for specific details on signage.

On Sheet A7.1, the corridor notes and Detail 12, the notes call out to remove and re-install signs. This is INNCORRECT. This information should be disregarded and superseded by the room signage schedule on Sheet A6.2.

End Wall Guard The specs call for both Corner Guards and End-Wall Guards. There is one condition in each building where this will be used. The new laundry room entry on the first floor is just a framed opening. In order to protect the opening, the end-wall guard is placed on the inside of the opening sandwiched between the two corner guards that are shown on the plan.

Impact Resistant Wall Covering This is a scrub-able wall vinyl acrylic covering (same material as the end wall guard) that is placed on the walls of the janitor closet around the mop sink. -Add the Impact Resistant Wall covering in the janitor closets to 5’-0” A.F.F. around the mop sink.

The EP1 paint color is not called out in the specs. This should be the same COLOR as P1, but be Epoxy paint.

Sheet A5.1 & A5.2 All paint called out as EP1 shall be the color of P1.

Add note 12 to Janitor Closet (Rm 127, 227, 327) finish call-outs.

Add note 13 to Rooms 121, 122, 125, 134, 140, 221, 222, 225, 240, 321, 322, 325 & 340 finish plan call-outs.

Add notes 12 & 13 to finish notes:

12. INSTALL VINYL ACRYLIC (IMPACT RESISTANT) WALL COVERING TO 5’-0” AFF. EPOXY PAINT WALL TO CEILING ABOVE 5’-0” A.F.F..

13. PAINT TO BE EPOXY IN THIS AREA.
