About this file
This is a Salient Characteristics document outlining minimum requirements for procuring, delivering, and installing replacement Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC) units and supporting outdoor air-cooled chillers for a data center facility.
CRAC Equipment Requirements: Six downflow chilled water CRAC units (CRAC-01 through CRAC-06) must be replaced with equipment meeting or exceeding legacy performance specifications. Units must feature direct-drive air foil plug fans or modern high-efficiency electronically commutated (EC) fans with motor capacity up to 15 HP and minimum external static pressure of 0.75 inches water gauge. Specific cooling capacities and airflow requirements vary by unit, ranging from 9,000 to 19,500 CFM, with total capacities between 214.8 and 352.0 MBH and sensible capacities between 90.0 and 310.8 MBH. Chilled water coil performance must accommodate entering water temperatures from 44.0°F to 54.4°F with maximum air pressure drop of 0.4 inches water gauge. Filtration must include high-capacity pleated filters with MERV 8 minimum efficiency rating and maximum initial pressure drop of 0.23 inches water gauge at 500 FPM.
Chiller Equipment Requirements: Two air-cooled, packaged scroll chillers (CH-1 and CH-2) operating in parallel N+1 redundant configuration must each provide minimum 115 tons capacity at 110°F design ambient, with chilled water flow of 233.3 GPM per chiller, leaving water temperature of 44.0°F, and minimum part-load efficiency (IPLV) of 15.3 EER. Chillers must feature all-aluminum microchannel condenser coils with corrosion-resistant e-coat, direct-drive low-sound composite fans, low-ambient operation to –20°F with integrated head-pressure controls, and brazed plate stainless steel evaporators with freeze protection. All equipment must operate at 460V AC, 3-phase, 60Hz with minimum short-circuit current rating of 65 kA. The chilled water loop infrastructure requires Type-L copper or schedule 40 carbon steel piping, centrifugal air separator, diaphragm-type expansion tank rated for 150 psig, and 40-mesh Y-strainers at each chiller inlet. Both chillers and CRAC units must integrate with the Building Management System via native BACnet MS/TP or BACnet/IP protocols, with chillers featuring integrated master/slave parallel control algorithms and automatic load equalization. Indoor CRAC units must fit within the existing Bravo 2000 floor grid (24" × 24" panels, 18" raised floor height), while outdoor chillers must maintain NEC clearances of minimum 4.0 feet on electrical panel doors and 3.5 to 6.0 feet around condenser coils on the existing concrete equipment pad.
