The Z rib is 18” wide and 2.5” tall and could handle the curve and length.

Contractor can use the 2” but it shall require z clips if it can’t make the length. Z cips are acceptable. No lapping the panels not acceptable to lap. Z-clip yes / lapping no.

QA 006

Section 01 11 00.10 Paragraph 1.2.3.1.2a. states that roof panels will be formed in continuous length from eave to eave with no end laps, however, the same paragraph says the panels will have a point of fixation at the ridges to allow thermal movement at the eave. If the panels are to be continuous length from eave to eave as specified, there will not be a ridge as specified. Are we to install a continuous panel from eave to eave or are we to provide for a ridge as specified?

Contractor shall be allowed to use a z clip.

QA 007

Section 01 11 00.10 Paragraph 1.2.3.1.2b, requires a modified bitumen system be utilized. Can an 80 mil TPO roof system be used in lieu of the specified system.

QA 045

The Summary of Work basis of design for the standing seam metal roof is Merchant & Evans, Inc. Zip-Rib. Will other manufacturers be acceptable if they meet, or exceed, the provided specification section 076114.0020?

Yes if they meet, or exceed and are submitted and approved.

QA 046

The Summary of Work states the insulation substrate for both roofs shall consist of two (2) layers of 1” Polyisocyanurate insulation (and ½” protection board in areas with Modified Bitumen). But specification section 072200 lists the R-value to be 16 or more which would require two (2) layers of 1.4” Polyisocyanurate insulation. The recently completed Hangar 41 project was done with the total thickness of 2”. Is the total thickness of 2” Polyisocyanurate insulation acceptable? 2” Polyisocyanurate insulation is acceptable

QA 047

The Summary of Work states to remove the ladder with the handrail located on the south west section of the building that runs form the eave to the top of the barrel. This ladder was not reinstalled on the Hangar 41 project. Can you confirm that this ladder with handrail is to NOT be reinstalled?

Correct handrail is to NOT be reinstalled

QA 048

The Summary of Work specifies an installation for the metal roofing panels to be continuous length from eave to eave with not end laps. Are other installation methods acceptable, as long as they meet the manufacturer warranty requirements, don’t have panel laps, and do not have exposed fasteners? Laps are not acceptable / Z-clips are

QA 049

Can you provide the thickness of the existing roof and insulation? Hangar 41 had two (2) layers of insulation and horizontal wood insulation stops.

W e a r e assuming that Hangar 40 is the same as Hangar 41

QA 050

Due to the size of the metal panels and size of the crane needed to lift the panels we will need a very large lay down area.

Will we be able to access the roof from both the East and West Hangar Door elevations?

The will be a large lay down area to the east of the Hangar and there will be total access to east and west sides of the hangar.

QA 051 Will a FOD prevention program be required since this project is on an active airfield?

Yes, the FOD prevention program is required keep foreign objects off the apron.

QA 052

The Summary of Work requires gutter nets and downspout strainers due to trees overhanging the roof. There does not appear to be any trees close to the project. Will this be a requirement if there are not trees overhanging the roof? Yes net will required

QA 053

Will a crane permit be required when lifting the panels? Who is responsible for approving the permit for work at Randolph AFB? What are the minimum requirements for a permit at Randolph AFB?

We set that in motion already the PM has taken that responsibility.

QA 054

The Closeout Submittals section requests a 5-year installer warranty for both roof systems. However, the roofing sections request a 2-year installer warranty. Please confirm that the required installer warranty will only be a 2-year warranty. Yes 2-year installer warranty acceptable.

QA 055

Roofing section 075200 requires an infrared inspection eight months after completion of the roof. Is this a required item it is an additional cost? Yes it is required

FA301620R0045 TYMX203906 Page 6 of 7

QA 056

Roofing section 075200 specifies a 3-ply modified bitumen roof to be installed in hot asphalt or torch applied. Since the hangar door pocket roofs are very small and difficult to access, will you accept an alternate of 80mil fully adhered TPO roof as installed at Hangar 41? It would be extremely dangerous to try and install a modified bitumen roof at these locations.

Contractor may substitute TPO roof for bitumen roof. TPO spec shall be added to the package

QA 057

During the site visit it was mentioned that rotten wood at the eave/fascia would require replacement. Until we get into the work it is difficult to quantify the amount of wood that will require replacement. Will the government provide a percentage of wood to include as an allowance that requires replacement? 25%

QA 058

If rotten wood is required to be replaced does it require panting?

All new facial wood require painting Biege. Existing facial the is not rotten should already be painted.

QA 059 What is the required roof insulation R value? R30

QA 060

During the site visit it was indicated that it would be recommended that 20% deck repair be included in contractor bids.

order to prevent this item that potentially will not be required from impacting the final awarded price is it possible to include the price per SF of deck as a part of the proposal submission that is not evaluated as part of the bid price? That is a good Idea Government will up date the SOW to reflect this statement QA 061 What is the extent of the painting scope? Only paint replaced fascia wood.

QA 062

Section 1.2.3.1.1 Structural Repair of the SOW makes several references to structural repairs yet provides no expected quantities. What quantity of decking repair should we include in our proposal?

20% of decking assuming there should not be any structural repairs.

QA 063

Section 1.5.1.1.1 of the SOW allows the Superintendent to serve as the SSHO and the SSHO to serve as the Quality Manager. Can one person fill all 3 roles (Superintendent/SSHO/CQM) assuming they are qualified? yes
