About this file

This is a technical specification document for air-cooled scroll water chillers conforming to industry standard Section 23 64 23.13.

The specification requires factory-assembled and tested chillers featuring one or more hermetic scroll compressors, finned coil evaporators immersed in pressurized buffer tanks, air-cooled condensers, and integrated controls. Units must operate reliably between -4°F and 109°F ambient temperature, with leaving solution temperatures ranging from 15°F to 86°F and inlet solution temperatures from 25°F to 95°F. All components must be mounted in unitized construction with single-point power connection. Chillers must include crankcase heaters, level sensors in evaporator tanks, ½-inch insulation of closed cell foam, and vent/drain connections with ball valves. Optional configurations include integrated pumps with nominal head pressures of 43 psig or 72 psig. Air-cooled condensers utilize aluminum fins, copper tubes, and galvanized steel casings with axial fans directly connected to UL-marked electric motors. Electrical systems must be UL508A-compliant, NEMA 3R rated, with 460-volt, 3-phase, 60-hertz power (230-volt option available for models up to model 161). Controllers must be standalone, microprocessor-based systems with nonvolatile memory, freeze protection, low-limit controls, pump interlocking capabilities, and MODBUS protocol communication. Each chiller requires comprehensive factory testing per ISA/IEC 17050-1, including component verification, electrical checks, pressure tests, and leak detection. The specified manufacturer is MTA (now part of Trane), with alternate manufacturers requiring prior written engineer approval. Units include one-year parts and labor warranty with factory-authorized startup and local technician support. Standard domestic North America packaging is provided, with chillers capable of withstanding indefinite storage at temperatures between -4°F and 120°F.
