Forms for Ordering Doors

Thank you for your purchase of this Armag® Corporation Arc Vault . We hope that this product meets your expectations and if you have questions or comments please let us know by contacting us at 800-443-9994 or at info@armagcorp.com.

Ballistics Certification CFR Title 27, part 555 SECTION 555.208 requires exterior magazines to be "bullet-resistant". This is defined by the ATF in ATF Rul. 76-18 as “being resistant to penetration of a bullet of 150 grain M2 ball ammunition having a nominal muzzle velocity of 2700 feet per second fired from a .30 caliber rifle from a distance of 100 feet perpendicular to the wall or door.” This ATF definition is referenced in DOD 5100.76M. This Arc-Vault meets these requirements.

Warranty Armag® Corporation warrants that the items in which it is the original equipment manufacturer

(OEM) will be free from defects in material and workmanship for a period of 12 months from date of shipment. Paint is warranted against flaking and peeling for same period provided it is maintained in accordance with provisions of this Owner’s Manual. Items in which Armag Corporation is not the OEM are subject to the warranty of that manufacturer.

Maintenance Armag® Corporation products require very little maintenance. We strongly recommend the exterior steel security door hinges be greased every 60 days, or as required, with Chevron Ultra EP#2, or equivalent. This will ensure years of life for the proper function of the door. Failure to grease regularly can cause the hinges to bind, thereby making it very difficult to open or close the door properly.

Each hinge is equipped with a small grease fitting. Should this fitting need to be replaced it can be obtained at a hardware store. The drive fitting is an Alemite 3009 and is to be installed with a 5253 driver.

The ISO block connectors also need to be greased as needed. There is grease fitting on the drive screw and another on the fastening section of the block. The manufacturer recommends using Sta-Lube grease: Premium Red. The part number on the container is SL3190 and should be able to be found at a hardware store.

The filters of your air conditioning units should be removed and cleaned on a regular basis. More information about these units can be found in their owner’s manual found at the end of this one.

Units are equipped with a battery operated exit light. These should be tested for functionality once a month. Hold down the button located on the front of the unit for 30 seconds. When pressed the light on the exit sign should come on, if it does not then a new battery may be needed.

Anchor brackets Your unit is outfitted with anchor brackets (welded to the four outer corners of the building) we suggest a ¾” hole 5” deep be drilled into the concrete pad, and then install ¾” x 6” anchor bolts.

Assembly Instructions

Tools needed: socket wrench, 1” socket, 3/8” Socket, 6” socket extension, caulk gun

Hardware needed: Adequate quantities of required hardware are provided for the assembly of the units.

Crane Service: The crane lift capacity will be determined based on the weight of each unit and on the distance the crane will need to swing the load. A professional rigging company should be consulted to make this determination. One or two 36,000 lb or greater forklifts will also be needed.

Lift hooks: Each unit has four lift hooks welded to the top. The hooks are engineered to lift more than the building weighs. We suggest the rigger use slings to attach to the hooks to lift the unit. We used 30’ slings when assembling these units at our facility. The lift hooks on top are on a 20’ x 12’ pattern.

Instructions: We recommend placing the units on a concrete or asphalt pad in order to provide a flat and level surface. If pad is uneven, the units are more difficult to assemble and cribbing or support shims may be required to level the units. Raising and support shimming may be necessary on outside edges in order to close seams on uneven pads.

1. Using the lift hooks, lift dock section (also referred to as the mother ship) and place on the pad.

This could also be placed using two 36,000 lb or larger forklifts.

2. Before placing any of the other sections, move the floor tile centered on the door. Use the 3/8” socket to remove the nuts from the back side of the small plate under the door. Lay this plate flat and replace the floor tile. Repeat this process for both the dock and non dock units. This will allow access for hooking up the electric later.

3. Lift the non dock unit that you wish to place, orienting it where the door will lineup properly with the corresponding door on the dock unit. These units are individually labeled L1, L2, R1 and R2 respectively. Place closely with crane, using forklift on the pockets at the rear of unit to finish pushing it into place. Lining up the ISO connector blocks while still positioning the unit, tighten the ISO connectors with the 1” Socket and extension (if needed).

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 until all units that are being connected are in place.

5. Remove the first full floor tile centered on the door on the dock unit. Below you will find an electrical connection. The corresponding non dock unit will have the male end to this connection under center floor tile on its door. Push the connection through the plate under the door that you opened and connect it to the female part of the connection as seen below.

Non dock unit section

Dock unit section

6. Network patch cables to connect all the units must also be put into place. This process is similar to that of connecting the power. Inside the lockable server racks you will find these patch cables. Below the same tile as the power connection, to the left hand side if looking into the non dock unit, you will see the network connection receptacle. Connect one connecting cable of each color/type to this unit. Run these cables through the same hole that the power is connected through and into the other box. Remove the tile that is against the wall behind the tile you removed to connect the power. Under this tile you will find a piece of conduit that runs into the next room. Feed your network cables through this conduit. Then remove the corresponding tile on the side of the wall which the ends of the network cable are now located.

You should find a network connection receptacle under this tile as well. Connect the network cables to their respective connections. Replace all floor tiles. (If the tiles will no longer sit level see the components and features section of this manual for instruction on how to make adjustments.)

7. These units come with removable aluminum thresholds that can now be placed in the doorways connecting the dock unit to the non dock units.

8. To prevent rainwater from leaking into the space between doorways. Use the caulk gun to caulk the top seam where the units are connected to one another

9. Ground rods are to be installed by a qualified electrician. Generally, the 10’ copper rod is to be connected to the supplied copper cable. The cable is then attached to the duplex ground bracket. Typically, ground rods are to be driven into the ground so that the top of the rod is at least 1’ below grade level. Consult NEC codes in your area for specific instructions. Further information about grounding these units can be found in the grounding information section of this manual.

10. Touch up exterior paint as needed with the included spray paint. The MSDS for this paint can be found in the Components Manuals and Specifications portion of this manual.

Caulk along the seam where the boxes come together here.

11. On the interior of each of the non dock pieces tracks can be found on the ceiling and walls.

These tracks hold a removable aluminum divider wall. Assembly of this wall is as follows.

Step 1: Lay the floor tracks in place. Make sure to align the groves in with the track attached to the wall.

Step 2: Pick up the first solid aluminum section. Any section without the door should suffice as they are designed to be interchangeable. Be careful not to hit the overhead lights as you move it around. Tilt it slightly and place the top into the track on the ceiling. It should stand upright in the center and then slide into the track on the floor until it is flush with the wall. The flat end should be against the wall.

Step 3: Repeat step 2 on the opposite side.

Step 4: Repeat step 2 only this time the piece you place should be flush with the first piece on either side. The pieces should align as seen below. Repeat this process for the other side as well.

Step 5: Using the same method of lifting and tilting the section into the top track. Place the section with the door into the center of the divider wall. There are pegs under the aluminum threshold that line up with slots in the floor track. The door should open away from the server room.

For disassembly repeat the above steps in reverse order.

Components and Features

Each box is fitted with several ISO blocks and connecting plates. These will be used to assemble the 5 units into a single unit and also when stacking pieces for transport purposes. They are operated by tightening or loosening the top screw once the pieces are aligned. A detailed schematic of the connector can be found in the components manuals section of this manual.

Each unit has a 12” raised flooring system installed. Most conduit and wiring is run beneath this flooring. Each tile is capable of being removed for access to network and electrical systems for maintenance and repair. If tiles need to be cut or modified they can be cut with an upright bandsaw with a bi-metal blade. Installers typically use a blade with 14 TPI. The panels can also be cut with a jigsaw, again with a bi-metal blade and with a circular saw with a diamond tipped blade. During shipping and use these floor tiles may become unlevel. In order to make adjustments, you will need a Phillip’s head screw driver. Unscrew the bracing from the pedestal portion of the flooring found at the corner of each tile. Once this bracing is unhooked the plate they are attached to is setting on a screw. This plate can be rotated to move this screw up or down. Make adjustments until the floor is leveled out. You can use any flat object ran between these pedestal points to see how level they are without replacing the tile.

Remove these screws and adjust plate to level flooring.

Each unit is equipped with two 24” lockable network racks and a single 48” lockable network rack. Separate fiber optic networks are run to each of the smaller racks. The larger rack holds a fiber optic network and a copper CAT 6 network.

Work areas are equipped with several aluminum workbenches. When not in use they can be collapsed to allow for more interior space.

Along the walls there are panels below the aluminum workbenches. These panels each contain two receptacles, three fiber optic lines (Yellow, Red, Green) and one CAT-6 line (Grey). The empty space on the end allows for the future addition of other network or electrical components.

Each unit is equipped with 4 Split-Type Ductless Mitsubishi HVAC units (MSZ-GE35VA-E1 and MSZ- GE71VA) which feed from the 2 Mitsubishi Multi Zone Ductless Heat Pump Condensers (MXZ- 5C100VA-E5) on the outside of the unit. Manuals for the installation and care of these units can be found at the end of this user’s manual.

Each unit is equipped with several doors rated to STC53. One of these doors will be equipped with the LKM7000 and X-09 hardware seen above. More information and schematics on these locks can be found by referencing the Component Manual’s and Schematics chapter of this user’s manual.

Each unit is equipped with an electrical transfer switch found on the rear of the unit.

Depending on the electrical source connected to unit, the lever will need to be in different locations. They are clearly labeled. More information about these transfer switches can be found in the electrical systems portion of this manual.

The server room of each unit has an escape hatch in the corner in case a hasty exit is needed and the main doors are unusable. Detailed instruction on the use of these hatches can be found in the chapter labeled Emergency Exit.

Battery operated exit lights show the main exit doors. In the absence of power these lights should come on providing direction towards the main exit.

The paint on these units is a ceramic coating known as Super Therm®. This adds a layer of insulation to the box, reflecting a high percentage of UV rays allowing for less energy usage and better air conditioning function. MSDS’s and specification sheets on both the primer and the top coat can be found in the components manuals and schematics section of this user’s manual.

For area’s that may be vulnerable to sound escaping each unit is equipped with 40W speakers and an amplifier to produce white noise. The speakers are found in the vestibule area of the non dock units and in the server room on the dock unit. The amp/controller for this white noise is located in the 48” Network cabinet. Each amplifier is plugged into a step down transformer that is necessary for proper function. More information can be found about this system in the electrical systems section of this manual.

There is a small aluminum box located on the rear of each unit. This box has an entry way to connect the units to an exterior network.
