About this file
This file is an exhibit providing site map information and operational protocols for the Mexia State Supported Living Center (MSSLC), a facility operated by the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC). The MSSLC is located at 540 Chapel Drive, Mexia, Texas 76667, with the on-site visit location designated at the General Store, Building 673, 200 East Rusk Street, Mexia, Texas 76667. The facility is one of 13 state supported living centers across Texas that provide campus-based services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Mexia location is uniquely designated as a Forensic Unit, meaning a portion of its resident population has been assigned through the court system as individuals found not mentally capable of standing trial for alleged offenses.
Contractors and visitors on the MSSLC campus must adhere to specific protocols including: no interaction with residents, securing all personal possessions and vehicles at all times, maintaining tool and work area security, keeping work areas clean and debris-free, following occupational safety practices, obeying traffic laws with heightened pedestrian awareness, and yielding to all pedestrian traffic. The campus is tobacco-free. Any incidents involving residents must be reported immediately to Kelly Wilson, Director of Support Services (Cell: 254-747-0819; Office: 254-562-1310), or Deanna Strother, Plant Maintenance Manager (Cell: 254-747-0029; Office: 254-562-1287). If neither is reachable, contractors should contact the MSSLC Operator at 254-562-2821.

About State Supported Living Centers
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) operates state supported living centers.
The state supported living centers provide campus-based direct services and supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities at 13 locations – Abilene, Austin
Brenham, Corpus Christi, Denton, El Paso, Lubbock, Lufkin, Mexia, Richmond, Rio
Grande, San Angelo and San Antonio.
The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems.
The Mexia State Supported Living Center is unique in that it is designated as a Forensic
Unit. This designation essentially means that a percentage of our population has been assigned here as a result of being found not mentally capable of standing trial for an alleged offense by the court system.
A consequence of this is that some of our residents are very high functioning and do not exhibit behaviors typical of what visitors commonly envision. This uniqueness gives cause to our staff and visitors to remain on heightened awareness of their surroundings at all times.
