SOI

State of Inquiry - A jurisdiction that sends an inquiry to the PDPS Central Site or to another jurisdiction to inquire about a driver's record becomes the State of Inquiry (SOI) for that transaction. The SOI has the responsibility of properly initiating PDPS inquiry transactions, examining responses returned from the SOR(s), and for using that information in jurisdictional licensing decisions.

SOR

State of Record - A jurisdiction becomes the State of Record (SOR) for each problem driver it reports to the NDR. Within PDPS, it is now the SOR's (not the NDR's) responsibility to maintain the substantive information about specific action(s) taken against an individual, to provide the identifying pointer record information to the PDPS Central Site, to respond to on-line requests with status and history records for individuals who have pointers at the PDPS Central Site, and to provide driver history information in response to request from states or other authorized users.

Status Request & Status Response When a probable identification is found, PDPS electronically sends a message to the State of Record asking them to send the driver license status (i.e., licensed, eligible to be licensed, or not eligible) to the State of inquiry. The state of record sends the status directly to the State of inquiry in the status response.

Suspension Temporary withdrawal of the driving privilege. Privilege is no longer valid, but if privilege is reinstated, there is no break in Driver History. The Driver History continues from where it was left off.

Update A transaction that adds, changes, or deletes pointer Information. Only SORs can do Updates
