PDPS Infrastructure and OS Parameter Monitoring Matrix
Monitored Parameter
Description
CPUprcrProcessorTimePercent
Displays the percentage of time that a processor is busy executing the threads of a process.
LDldFreeSpacePercent
Displays the percentage of free space available on the selected logical disk drive.
PDpdDiskTimePercent
Displays the percentage of elapsed time that the disk spends servicing read or write requests.
MEMmemAvailableBytes
Displays the number of megabytes of physical memory currently available to processes, but is not related to the amount of physical memory installed in your server.
ServiceStatus
Indicates whether a service is up or down.
UNIX Operating System Parameter Monitoring
Monitored Parameter
Description
CPUCpuUtil
This parameter displays the percentage of CPU utilization. CPU utilization is calculated by adding user time and system time.
FSCapacity
This parameter displays the percentage of file system storage that is currently in use. It is calculated by dividing the total number of blocks used by the total number of blocks and then multiplying the result by 100.
SWPTotSwapUsedPercent
This parameter displays the percentage of the total system-wide swap space in use. Once your system is out of swap space, it cannot start any new processes, and running processes cannot spawn new processes.
MEMFreeMem
This parameter displays the number of 1 KB pages of memory available.
PROCPPCount
Indicates whether a process is up or down.
Server Availability Monitoring
Monitored Parameter
Description
Availability Monitoring for Servers & Network Devices
Use IBM's (formerly Micromuse) Netcool ISM product or similar product for ICMP and SNMP monitoring. Every 3 minutes send an ICMP request and an SNMPWALK (to the server's PATROL SNMP agent) request to the target server. For a successful response, a Clear (Green) alert is generated in Netcool. If when a request is sent to the target server and a successful response is not generated, ISM will wait 1 minute before trying the request again. If it fails again, ISM will wait 1 more minute before trying the request again. If the request fails after the 3rd attempt, for a total of 5 consecutive minutes, a Critical (Red) alert is generated in Netcool.
Interface Monitoring Traps
All network devices are configured to sent their traps to Netcool. This includes, but is not limited to - Interface Errors, Link Down, Authentication Traps, etc.
Hardware Monitoring Traps
Setup hardware device traps from Dell & HP hardware.
