MT DOR 86(1)

Bozeman to Bridger Mountains Trail

# General Technical Question Answer Date

1 X Are any of the Pipe Culverts in Line items

A0660, A0680, A0700, A0720, A0740 RCP (

Reinforced Concrete Pipe )?

Yes. See Plan Sheet H.1. 12/12/18

2 X Where do I find the info for the type of Pipe culvert needed?

See Plan Sheet H.1 12/12/18

3 X

Is the Bond form in the Solicitation required with the bid, or will the bond form from the

Surety Co be acceptable?

It is recommended Standard Form 24 be used for bid bonds. See FAR Clause 52.228-

1 for the requirement to furnish a Bid

Guarantee.

12/12/18

4 X What is the Maintenance period and Warranty

Period for this project?

There are none. See Subsections 106.07 and 109.09.

12/12/18

X

What pages from the Solicitation are required to be included in the sealed bid envelope?

Submit all items listed on the bid submittal checklist.

12/12/18

6 X The cross section for Sta. 1612+91.94 shows an existing UG phone utility on the right. This line will be in conflict with the excavation for the box culvert. Can FHWA confirm if this line will be relocated to allow for the box culvert installation?

See Subsection 107.02 12/13/2018

7 X Would it be allowable to detour both lanes of

MT 86 through the Bozeman Fish Technology

Center parking lot, as opposed to only one lane at a time?

Please bid the project as specified. The contractor may propose changes after award of the contract.

12/17/18

8 X Can you please provide the geopak files for the above referenced project?

Sorry, no. Please bid the project based on the solicitation.

Check General or Technical

9 X The thermoplastic pavement marking specification for this project appears to be for a top applied marking. Over the years, however, inlaid hydrocarbon thermoplastic has proven to be the most successful in the climate and conditions of this region. Attached is the latest

MDT specification for hydrocarbon thermoplastic hot extruded in to grooves cut into the asphalt, or inlaid. This is also in line with what the City of Bozeman specifies for inlaid thermoplastic. Please confirm that Type H markings are to be inlaid hot extruded hydrocarbon thermoplastic. Please let us know if this can be an alternative to Thermoplastic

Pavement Marking spec.

Please Bid according to the plans and specs 12/27/2018

10 X

The gravity retaining walls depicted in Sheets J1 through J8, and specified in Section 254, are impractical in precast block products. Precast block products for gravity walls are rectangular products, however the wall elevations show vertically curved grades along the bottom of cut walls and top of fill walls that are noted as not allowing steps. This could only be constructed, without unsightly gaps at the face of the wall, if the sides of multiple blocks were cut and fit on site (which would be prohibitively expensive).

In addition, several of the walls are shown to be set on a vertical grade without endcaps to prevent lengthwise sliding (especially in this seismic loading condition).

Can the noted bottom of cut walls and top of fill walls be minimally stepped as required to meet general grading and, as required, set the base of wall on a buildable longitudinal slope?

Please Bid according to the plans and specs 1/2/2018

11 X

The IFB 107.02 Protection and Restoration of

Property and Landscape states that the utility companies have been contacted about the project and the contractor should notify them 2 weeks prior to starting work. Will the contractor have any costs incurred with any of these relocates?

Please bid the project based on the solicitation.

Drawing E.2 shows location of parking lot drop inlet and indicates the drain piping continues across the Fish Hatchery road. Is there a print which indicates where the drain piping ends and location? Furthermore, is there a detail cross section and quantities for the restoration of the

Fish hatchery road if indeed the drain piping crosses the road?

The pipe length and location can be found in the plan and profile sheets – sheet D.7

12/28/2018

12 X

What material is required for traffic detour gravel?

The material is not specified in the contract.

Comply with conditions outlined in Section

156.-Public traffic.

12/28/2018

13 X

Referencing drawing H.1. the quantity for 18” pipe culvert will include both a mandatory concrete culvert 1613+07 and the remaining steel culvert on the same line item. Any change items on this line item will not be accurate as it is a mixture of two material items. How would this be handled?

Please Bid Accordingly. Changes will be addressed when they occur.

12/28/2018

14 X

109.03 (c) project weighing system Furnish, erect, and maintain acceptable automatic digital scales. What materials are to be generated from this project that you foresee as requiring to be weighed out?

12/28/2018

15 X

Does the Jack Leg fence material all need to be stripped of bark?

See detail sheet I.10 for notes on Jack Leg fence.

12/28/2018

16 X

It does state in the specs in section 625 that the turf establishment is supposed to be between

October 15th and April 15th. Since the completion is September 15th will a stop work be granted or a contract extension be granted to complete this work?

An Amendment will be issued to address this.

12/28/2018

17 X

Is a designated TCS required everyday construction is underway per FP-14 156.09?

And if so would you consider adding a bid item to accommodate this item with the amount of days given to complete the project?

A bid item will not be added.

1/3/2019
