About this file
This is a Technical Specifications document (Exhibit G, Part III) that outlines data package deliverables required for hazardous chemical and radiochemical analytical laboratory services.
The document specifies comprehensive documentation requirements organized by analysis type. For all sample fractions, contractors must provide: a case narrative documenting sample identification, parameters analyzed, methodology, holding time compliance, analytical problems, QA/QC exceedances, manual integrations, and any sample integrity concerns; legible chain-of-custody forms including sampling/shipping dates, personnel signatures, sample type, analyses requested, receipt dates and conditions, temperatures, air bill numbers, custody seals, and sample numbers; and a sample cross-reference table correlating client sample IDs with laboratory sample IDs. For organic analyses, deliverables include environmental sample result summaries with collection dates, extraction/analysis dates, sample weights or volumes, instrument specifications, GC column and detector details, dilution factors, percent moisture or solids data, method detection limits, and quantitation limits; QA/QC sample results on standardized QC summary forms with analysis dates; instrument calibration documentation including GC/MS tuning, initial and continuing calibration; method blank analysis reporting analytes above detection limits; surrogate standard recovery data with percent recoveries and acceptance ranges; internal standard summaries with area counts and retention times; peak resolution summaries; precision and accuracy data; and raw chromatographic and mass spectrometric analyses. Inorganic analyses require similar documentation including environmental and QA/QC sample result summaries, instrument calibration verification, blank analysis, interference check samples for inductively coupled plasma methods, precision and accuracy data, and raw spectrometric analyses data from various analytical techniques including ICP-AES, ICP-MS, atomic absorption, ion chromatography, and gravimetric methods.

Exhibit G
Technical Specifications for Hazardous Chemical and Radiochemical Analytical Laboratory
Services - Part III Data Package Deliverables
DRAFT
Data Package Deliverables
Data Documentation Requirements
All Fractions:
• Case Narrative o Client's sample identification and the corresponding laboratory identification o Parameters analyzed for each sample and the methodology used o Whether the holding times were met or exceeded o Detailed description of all analytical and/or sample receipt problems encountered o Discussion of reasons for any QA/QC sample result exceedances o Discussion of any manual integrations o Observations regarding any occurrences which may adversely impact sample integrity or data quality
• Chain-of-Custody
Legible copies of all Chain-of-Custody forms for each sample shall be submitted in the data package. Copies of any internal laboratory tracking documents should also be included. It is anticipated that Chain-of-Custody forms and/or internal laboratory tracking documents will include the following information:
o Date and time of sampling and shipping o Sampler and shipper names and signatures o Type of sample (grab or composite) o Analyses requested o Project, site, and sampling station names o Date and time of sample receipt o Laboratory sample receiver name and signature o Observed sample condition at time of receipt o Sample and/or cooler temperatures at time of receipt o Air bill numbers o Custody seal o Sample numbers.
• Sample Cross Reference Table Reference table listing the BNL sample ID with the laboratory sample ID
Organic Analyses Documentation Requirements
• Summary of Environmental Sample Results The following information is to be included in the summary of sample results for each environmental sample.
o Client's sample identifications and corresponding laboratory identifications o Sample collection dates o Dates and times of sample extraction and/or analysis o Weights or volumes of sample used for extraction and/or analysis o Identification of instruments used for analysis o Gas Chromatography (GC) column and detector specifications o Dilution or concentration factor for the sample o Percent Difference between columns, if applicable o Percent Moisture or Percent Solids for soil samples o Method Detection Limits (MDLs)/Limit of Detection (LOD) and sample
Quantitation Limits (QLs) o Analytical results and associated units o Definitions for any laboratory data qualifiers used
• Summary of QA/QC Sample Results The QA/QC sample results shall be presented on QC summary forms. They shall also include the date and time of analysis. Additional summary forms may be required for some methods. Therefore, when reporting data, laboratories should defer to specific method requirements
• Instrument Calibrations o GC/MS Tuning, if applicable o Initial Calibration o Continuing Calibration
• Method Blank Analysis List environmental samples and QC analyses associated with each method blank.
Report concentrations of any analytes found in method blanks above the instrument detection limit
• Surrogate Standard Recovery Report the name and concentration of each surrogate compound added. List percent recoveries of all surrogates in the samples, method blanks, matrix spike/matrix spike duplicates and other QC analyses. Also include acceptance ranges that the laboratory used for the analysis
• Internal Standard Summary o Report internal standard area counts of the associated calibration standard and retention times, including upper and lower acceptance limits.
o List internal standard area counts and retention times for all samples, method blanks, matrix spike/matrix spike duplicates and other QC analyses.
o Include the instrument identification (ID) and the date and time of analysis
