Course Description
Given a lecture the student will be able to identify and properly utilize the equipment in a standard control room in accordance with USMS policy and post orders.
Terminal Performance Objective
(TPO)
The student will demonstrate the ability to identify all of the major equipment deployed in the USMS control room located at their facility to include the use and application.
Enabling Performance Objectives
(EPO)
EPO #1: Identify the major components of a USMS control room
EPO #2: Understand the use and application of all of the devices deployed in a USMS Control room
EPO #3: Identify what a CSO should be watching in the control room
EPO #4: Recall the required testing for duress alarms
EPO #5: Identify the emergency procedures a CSO would take in the control room

OUTLINE OF INSTRUCTION
I. INTRODUCTION
A. RAPPORT AND OPENING STATEMENT
1. The CSO control room post is the information hub for all things that are being monitored in the Facility.
2. In the event of an emergency the control room CSO is a major player in ensure that the information flow and response in handled in a timely manner.
B. LESSON PLAN OVERVIEW
1. Terminal Performance Objective (TPO).
The student will demonstrate the ability to identify all of the major equipment deployed in a USMS control room to include the use and application.
2. Enabling Performance Objectives (EPOs).
EPO #1: Identify the major components of a USMS control room
EPO #2: Understand the use and application of all of the devices deployed in a
USMS Control room
EPO #3: Identify what a CSO should be watching in the control room
EPO #4: Recall the required testing for duress alarms
EPO #5: Identify the emergency procedures a CSO would take in the control room
II. PRESENTATION
Note: The instructor will ensure that all of the information provided during this course is as per the CSO contract requirements. Personal experiences the instructor uses during this course will not contradict course content.
Instructor will ensure that they cover all of the teaching points listed on each slide

B. Slides 2-3: Control room responsibilities
1. The instructor will cover the information on the slides:
a. Control room responsibilities.
b. What CSO are not used in the control room for.
1) As an answering service for USMS phone calls.
C. Slides 4-5: Types of control rooms
Note: Purpose of these slides is to provide the CSO a visual of the types of control room they may encounter in the field.
1. The instructor will cover the teaching points on the slides.
2. Older style control rooms
a. May not be structured well and have older model equipment
3. Newer style control rooms
a. Typically combined with prisoner operations equipment
b. Newer and more up to date equipment
D. Slides 6-50: Components of the control room
Note: Instructor will provide during these slides personal experience that correlate to the training topic. Experiences should be focused on the slide topic and be short in duration.
1. Control room equipment consist of:
a. Court space equipment, Controlled by CSO’s
b. Prisoner space equipment typically will be co- located with court space devices.
Instructor will stress that per the contract CSO’s are hired to monitor court space and not prisoners.

c. Judicial chamber entrances are not specifically viewed or recorded by the control room

9. Digital Video recorder (DVR) system

E. Slides 51-54: Required monthly checks of alarms systems
1. CSO’s are required to perform monthly checks of facility duress alarm systems.
2. In the event equipment does not function properly or is in need of repair. CSO will notify LCSO who will advise COR/JSI. COR/JSI is responsible for authorizing all repairs and replacement of equipment.

1. The instructor will conduct a classroom pop quiz by asking the class as a group what the answers are to each question. Instructor will ensure that they cover the correct answers as they pertain to the EPO’s and final assessment.
