About this file

This document contains a special notice and interior signage guide for the Defense Health Agency.

The special notice provides information on an upcoming solicitation for an initial outfitting project at Misawa Air Base Hospital in Japan. The project scope includes work for the Dental, Sterile Processing, Nutritional Medicine, and Pharmacy departments. A mobile sterilization unit must also be supplied immediately upon award. The estimated contract value is between $5-10 million. The solicitation will use FAR Part 13 simplified acquisition procedures and FAR Part 12 for commercial items. The requirement is a total small business set-aside under NAICS code 337127 with a size standard of 500 employees. Questions may be asked through October 15th and proposals are due by October 31st. The project completion date is April 2024.

The interior signage guide outlines requirements and standards for Military Health System signage at medical facilities. It includes the MHS logo and examples of primary sign types from the Air Force Interior Design Guide. Emphasis is placed on using the MHS seal and incorporating it on directional and department signs in a tone-on-tone background insert. Removable acrylic inserts with set screws are referenced as the standard to enable easy message changes.

Set screw is required to lock message panel in place – Air Force uses the removable acrylic window and set screw as their design standard so that it makes it easy for the facility to change out the inserts when they need to be revised. Once the insert is replaced, the set screw locks in the acrylic which prevents any possible tampering or message sliding out.

The set screw is called out to be used on the following sign types in the Air Force Design Guide:

• A1/A2 Primary/secondary room identification

• B1/B2 Large/small changeable message

• D1 Evacuation maps

• G1/G2 Patient rights/Staff rights

• J1/J2 Large/small wall mounted directionals
