About this file

This is a design specifications document for a steam system upgrade project at the VA Medical Center in Perry Point, Maryland. The specifications detail requirements for upgrading steam and condensate piping systems in patient areas across multiple buildings (14H, 15H, 17H, 18H, 19H, 20H, 80H, and 101).

The work includes demolition of existing steam/condensate piping, installation of new direct buried steam/condensate lines, new steam manholes, installation of new steam stations, condensate receivers and pumps, flash tanks and pressure reducing valves. The project also requires infilling Building 14H's pool and constructing a new mechanical room with heat exchangers, pumps and piping for steam, heating water, and chilled water systems. A temporary boiler must be provided for Building 17H during construction. The contractor must comply with detailed phasing requirements to minimize service disruptions, maintain facility operations 24/7, and coordinate all work with the VA COR. The specifications include extensive requirements for safety protocols, security procedures, documentation/photography, electronic submittals, and quality control measures. The contractor must obtain security badges for all personnel within 15 days of contract award.
