INVITATION TO BID #2024-97
Canby Marquam Highway Paving Project (“BID”)
RESPONSE TO CLARIFYING QUESTIONS #3
October 23, 2024
Note that these are questions submitted by interested firms to the above referenced solicitation.
The below answers are for clarification purposes only and in no way alter or amend the BID as published.
1. Bid Item 119 – Level 3, ½” ACP has a quantity of 8,500 tons, I have done a takeoff on the project and I am coming up with needing approximately 2,000 tons less than the 8,500. Is there an error on the quantity or is the county anticipating a lot or prelevel on the project?
Answer: Review section 00120.20 of the standard specifications and ‘Article 2.
Examination of Site and Conditions’ in the Clackamas County Public Improvement Contract – Instructions to Bidders.
2. Bid Item 107 – Temporary Flexible Pavement Markers has a quantity of 8,600 EA, this seems to be extremely high for the 3 miles of roadway.
Answer: Review section 00120.20 of the standard specifications and ‘Article 2.
Examination of Site and Conditions’ in the Clackamas County Public Improvement Contract – Instructions to Bidders.
3. Will the contractor be paid for Bid Item 116 – CPPR 2 Inches Deep at the repair locations that the 18” ACP repair is utilized? I would imagine that we would grind those areas the 2” and then it is determined that the 18” repair will be utilized from there so both items will be paid?
Answer: Correct, follow detail 1/C-02 of the project plans.
4. Will temporary ramps be paid under BI 119? Or is the ACP for those incidental?
Answer: If you are asking about temporary end panels at transverse joints, follow sec
744.45 of the standard specifications.
5. Will the contractor be required to sawcut the ends of the 2” repairs? Because they are being overlaid, this seems like a requirement that wouldn’t be needed. Please advise.
Answer: The edges of the repairs will need to be vertical as shown in detail 1/C-02 of the project plans.
6. Will the contractor need to grind out to the guardrail posts in the locations that there is guardrail? If so, this would require the temporary removal and reinstallation of the guardrail in the grinding areas. Please advise.
Answer: In two areas where there is a grind and an adjacent guardrail, the existing ACP does not currently extend to the face of the guardrail. At or near the intersection of Hwy 211, the plans call for a taper grind which will can be limited to near the face of the guardrail. The paving will need to extend to the guardrail post as shown on the plans and per std dwg RD402. The guardrail will need to be adjusted per note 13.
