About this file
This is an Internal Air Transport Certification document issued by AFLCMC/EZFC (ATTLA) for the Freightliner M2112 6X6 Stake-Bed Truck, dated 11 May 2021 (File Number 2021.05.01). The certification authorizes air transport of this 3-axle, stake-bed truck via USAF C-17 and C-5 aircraft. The vehicle has approximate dimensions of 354" L × 102" W × 141" H with a reported gross weight of 24,580 lbs and a GVWR of 56,000 lbs. The certification specifies maximum weights for air transport: 44,800 lbs gross vehicle weight without sleeper shoring and 56,000 lbs with sleeper shoring, with corresponding axle limits that increase when sleeper shoring is used.
Item preparation requirements mandate that shippers provide all shoring materials and ensure tire pressures of 130 psi are maintained. All hazardous materials must be prepared and certified per TM 38-250/AFMAN 24-604(I), with authorization for hazardous materials airlift required from AFMC/A4RT. The vehicle can be loaded using general procedures from aircraft cargo loading manuals. Sleeper shoring specifications require 14" L × 14" W dimensions for the front axle and 17" L × 17" W for middle and rear axles, stacked within ½" of the chassis/frame and secured with cargo straps. Restraint requirements mandate the truck and accompanying cargo meet 3G forward, 1.5G aft and lateral, and 2G up loads, with a 4.5G down load capability for stored equipment. Eight tie-down provisions rated at 25,000 lbs each are available on the truck frame. This certification must be distributed to the ATOC representative, AMC/A3V & AMC/A4T, and SDDC TEA. The point of contact is Nathan Griesinger at nathan.griesinger.2@us.af.mil or ATTLA@us.af.mil.

Date: 11 May 2021 Item Nomenclature: Freightliner M2112 6X6 Stake-Bed Truck File Number: 2021.05.01 Requestor: On File
Item Description: The subject item is identified to be a 3-axle, stake-bed truck. The approximate dimensions are 354” L x 102” W x 141” H. The reported gross weight is 24,580 lbs with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) of 56,000 lbs. The front axle is reported to weigh 11,100 lbs with a rating of 16,000 lbs, the middle axle is reported to weigh 6,740 lbs with a rating of 20,000 lbs and the rear axle is reported to weigh 6,740 lbs with a rating of 20,000 lbs.
NOTE: The listed dimensions are approximations. Actual dimensions and weights may vary as long as aircraft limitations published in the cargo loading manuals and the conditions of certification listed below are not violated. Adjustments to shoring and/or loading methods shall be reported to ATTLA.
Figure 1: Freightliner M2112 6X6 Stake-Bed Truck
Certified Aircraft: USAF C-17 and C-5
Conditions of Certification:
1. Maximum Weight for Air Transport:
a. Gross Vehicle Weight: 44,800 lbs (without sleeper shoring); 56,000 lbs (with sleeper shoring)
b. Axle Limits:
Front – 12,800 lbs (without sleeper shoring); 16,000 lbs (with sleeper shoring)
Middle – 16,000 lbs (without sleeper shoring); 20,000 lbs (with sleeper shoring)
Rear – 16,000 lbs (without sleeper shoring); 20,000 lbs (with sleeper shoring)
File Number 2021.05.01
2. Item Preparation:
a. Shipper is responsible for providing all shoring materials. See paragraph 5 for specifications.
b. Tire pressures are reported to be 130 psi. It has been determined that the load per tire at this inflation pressure meets C-17 & C-5 floor limitations for loading and for flight, at the weights reported in the item description paragraph.
c. All hazardous materials (to include fuel level, batteries, etc.) must be prepared and certified for airlift in accordance with TM 38-250/AFMAN 24-604(I). Do not consider this air transport certification as approval for hazardous materials. Authorization for airlifting hazardous material is the responsibility of AFMC/A4RT (DSN 787-4503 or COM (937) 257-4503).
3. Loading Instructions:
a. This vehicle can be loaded using general loading procedures as listed in the respective aircraft cargo loading manual.
b. Sleeper shoring (when required) shall be placed under the frame near the axles on both sides (2 stacks per axle). See paragraph 5 for specifications.
4. Restraint Requirements: The Freightliner M2112 6X6 Stake-Bed Truck and all accompanying cargo must be restrained to meet air transport requirements of 3G forward, 1.5G aft and lateral, and 2G up. In addition, stored or installed equipment must meet these requirements and be capable of withstanding a 4.5G down load. Restraint may be applied to axles up to their axle ratings in longitudinal and lateral directions as listed in the item description paragraph. Do not apply more than 50% of required restraint to axles for longitudinal and lateral directions. Spring mounted axles provide zero vertical restraint. There are 8 tie-down provisions mounted to the truck frame (4 per side), rated at 25,000 lbs each for all directions. The rear-bumper provisions are suitable for restraint, however the ratings are not known. The recovery hooks mounted to the front bumper shall not be used for restraint.
Utilize frame points as necessary for additional restraint.
5. Shoring Dimensions:
a. Sleeper Shoring: When required, the sleeper shoring must be stacked to within ½” of the chassis/frame and secured with cargo straps.
Front Axle: 14” L x 14” W
Middle & Rear Axles: 17” L x 17” W
NOTE: Sleeper shoring dimensions are adequate up to the vehicle’s axle weight ratings as listed in the item description paragraph.
File Number 2021.05.01
Required Distribution:
1. Shipper shall give a copy of this certification to the ATOC representative when the item is presented for airlift. This memo shall be part of the official cargo manifest documentation package and shall be briefed to the aircraft loadmaster prior to loading this item.
2. AMC/A3V & AMC/A4T.
3. SDDC TEA.
