About this file

Attachment J5 is a definitions document for Braille Transcription and Duplication services for the National Library Service (NLS). The document provides key terminology definitions related to the contract, including "Free Matter for the Blind" (postage-free mailing for accessible reading materials), "Source Material" (NLS-provided content in various formats), and "Production Authorization Record (PAR)" (detailed instructions for individual books).

The document defines critical technical terms for the braille transcription process, such as "Producer Data Exchange (PDE)" (an NLS website for project information exchange), "Complete Submission Package" (which includes electronic braille files, control copy, and source material), and "Braille page" (a single side of an interpoint page converted from source material). The definitions support the broader NLS objective of providing accessible reading materials to visually and physically impaired individuals, with specific focus on the technical process of converting source materials into braille format.
