About this file
This is a content database report detailing exhibit specifications and image licensing documentation for a new exhibition at the Ninety Six National Historic Site visitor center. The report provides comprehensive details for artifact cases (CA), electronic programs (EP), electronic equipment (EE), graphics (GL), construction elements (CE), and images (IM).
The database documents specifications for over 90 distinct exhibit components including artifact display cases with specific dimensions, materials, and security requirements; electronic interactives including audio programs, touchscreens and media players; mounting hardware and construction elements; and graphic panels with dimensions, materials and mounting details. It also includes documentation of image licensing agreements with various institutions and artists for historical images to be used in the exhibits. The report is dated January 11, 2024 and appears to be an attachment (Attachment D) to a larger exhibit fabrication contract package for the National Park Service.

Jaw Harp Interactive
Purpose
By pressing a button, users can hear what a nearby jaw harp artifact might have sounded like.
Experience
The user presses a button and hears a song.
Production
This is a push-button interactive on a graphic panel. The media producer is not responsible for the graphic panel. The button is set in the panel and slightly raised. The speaker is hidden behind the panel. When a user presses the button, the song plays through the speaker. An actual jaw harp with interpretation is nearby in an artifact case.
Style
There are no visuals and the song has already been selected (see content). The sound must be clear and balanced, and favor the jaw harp if possible.
Accessibility
The interactive is already ADA accessible and needs no further modification.
Content
● 30 seconds or less of In the Fields of Frost and Snow.

User Experience https://www.colonialwilliamsburg.org/learn/deep-dives/exploring-african-american-history-through-music/ https://www.colonialwilliamsburg.org/learn/deep-dives/exploring-african-american-history-through-music/ mailto:mmartin@cwf.org
The user sees an attract screen with an artistic presentation of people’s silhouettes and a title related to Voices of Ninety Six. A start button prompts the interactive into play mode. The screen now presents an array of eight silhouettes. Each silhouette represents a person who was present at Ninety Six, and each is labeled with that person’s name. Instructions on the screen invite visitors to tap a silhouette to learn more about them. When a user does so, the screen transitions to a larger version of the silhouette accompanied by text relating information about the person.
The user can then close the screen and return to the attract screen.
Production
This is a simple experience on a touchscreen with a speaker or other audio device. Users tap visual silhouettes of historic figures to open their stories. The stories appear in text and possibly audio. After reading and/or listening to a story, users can return to the main menu to choose another historic figure.
The silhouettes and their stories must be easy for park staff to update via a content management system or other method.
Style
The attract screen should animate the silhouettes to some degree - for example, the silhouettes could fade in, fade out, and overlap.
The menu of silhouettes should be arranged with clarity, and in a style that acknowledges some uncertainty about what the historic figure actually looked like. It should be intuitive that users can tap the silhouettes to learn more, but instructions should also make that clear.
The information about the silhouette-person should be succinct and as compelling as possible.
The audio versions should be read by different voice actors to match the individuals, but not to pretend to be them.
The interactive must include an audible version of all questions, choices, and results.
The touchscreen controls must also be operable by a nearby Nav Pad.

Built For Battle
Purpose
By exploring a timeline of siege constructions, users will witness the escalation of military engineering that both defines the fort’s significance and echoes similar conflicts throughout history.
Experience
On a touchscreen, a user sees two things: a bird’s eye view of the Ninety Six site as it would have appeared on the morning of June 18, 1781, and a timeline. On the bird’s eye view, certain points are highlighted, similar to location pins on a digital map. These points mark patriot and loyalist siege constructions. On the timeline, the user sees illustrations of the siege constructions in the order in which they were built.
When the user taps a point on the bird’s eye view, two things simultaneously happen. One is that a lightbox-style window pops up. In the window, the user sees an illustration of the selected siege construction along with a brief description. The other thing that happens is on the timeline. Here, the selected siege construction is highlighted or otherwise called to attention. The user can see when, in the conflict escalation, it was built.
Nearby, the user can find a second, closely related interactive. This is a physical, tactile scale-model of the bird’s eye view on a table. The siege constructions here are partnered with pushbuttons. The buttons play audio descriptions of the constructions (see EP-06-01-400).
Production
This is a touchscreen map with a responsive timeline. The map, however, is more of an illustration of a birds eye view than a map, per se. The illustration is of the Ninety Six site as it would have appeared on the morning of June 18, 1781. Twelve points on it are highlighted.
These are edifices built or additionally fortified during the siege. The twelve points are listed in the content section below.
The responsive timeline runs along the bottom, side, or other area of the screen. It has twelve dates. Each one marks the day an edifice was commenced to be built or additionally fortified.
And each one is accompanied by an illustration of the edifice.
When an edifice is tapped on the map, it appears highlighted or otherwise more visible on the timeline. At the same time, a lightbox-style window appears on screen. In it is an illustration of the edifice and a brief description.
Nearby, is a second, closely related interactive. This is a physical, tactile scale-model of the bird’s eye view on a table. The siege constructions here are partnered with pushbuttons. The buttons play audio descriptions of the same twelve constructions (see EP-06-01-400).
Style
The interactive map of the Ninety Six site will be illustrated as a bird’s eye view of the site as it appeared on the morning of June 18, 1781. The illustration will not be literal or finely detailed.
Rather, it will approximate the appearance of the tactile model related to EP-06-01-400, as the two should work together. In general, it will appear as a depiction of the siegeworks and their locations to the extent they are known, and in a style that suggests there is still more to be discovered. The illustration will be in color, and it will feel period-relevant but also modern.
The lightbox illustrations will follow the same style as the bird’s eye view illustration. They will work in concert with the tactile model, be detailed to the extent they are known, suggestive that questions still exist, and historic-modern in feel.
The timeline illustrations will be duplicates of the lightbox illustrations, only smaller.
The interactive must include an audio guide for use and audible descriptions of the siege constructions and their locations on the timeline as well as on the map.
The touchscreen controls must also be operable by a nearby Nav Pad.

Title
Battleground Table
Purpose
By pressing buttons on a tactile scale model, users will explore an additional layer and modality of interpretation to understand the important features of the siege.
Experience
The centerpiece of the exhibit is a scale model of the Ninety Six site as it appeared on June 18, 1781. When a visitor approaches it, they see there are buttons associated with twelve features on the model: one button per feature. Each feature is a representation of an edifice constructed or additionally fortified as part of the siege. The visitor can touch the feature to feel its details and press the button to hear a spoken description of it. Once the visitor has heard the description, they can move on to the next feature.
Nearby, the user can find a second, closely related interactive. This is a touchscreen version of the scale model. Tapping the features on screen brings up illustrations and written descriptions of them. It also places the features on a timeline, demonstrating the escalation of siege construction leading up to the day of battle (see EP-05-01-800).
Production
This is a scale model with buttons that play audio when pushed. The media producer is not responsible for the model. There are twelve buttons, total. Each is related to a specific feature on the model. Each plays an independent audio piece, which is a narrative description of the relevant feature. The audio plays through a speaker embedded in the table. Only one recording can be heard at a time.
Nearby, is a second, closely related interactive. It is a touchscreen version of the scale model.
Tapping the features on screen brings up illustrations and written descriptions of them. It also places the features on a timeline, demonstrating the escalation of siege construction leading up to the day of battle (see EP-05-01-800).
Style
There are no visuals. The audio must be clear and focused on delivering informative descriptions of…
